FAMILY LEARNING COURSES HELPING FAMILIES ACHIEVE THEIR POTENTIAL

WHAT IS FAMILY LEARNING?Nottingham College works in partnership with Nottingham City Council and Inspire to promote learning in designated City and County schools and Children’s Centres. Courses are targeted at parents and carers to help their children perform better at key stages in school. Family Learning’ describes a wide range of activities and courses.

These include informal learning at one off workshops to short courses, including “Keeping Up with the Children” courses. “Keeping up with the Children” courses look at how literacy and numeracy is taught at schools today, and help parents support their own children’s learning. Parents without a level 2 qualification in English or maths themselves have the opportunity to work towards a Functional Skills qualification in literacy and numeracy in classes held at the school.

Family Learning courses are free of charge to all. However, you should be a parent or carer of a child currently attending the school where the course is offered. The courses are targeted at parents or carers working towards their first level 2 qualification.

Nottingham College currently offers Family Learning at schools in the following areas:

• Beeston

• Clifton

• Aspley

• Lenton

• Eastwood

• Wollaton

• Bilborough

• Bulwell

• Arnold

• Bestwood

• Basford

• Radford

• St Ann’s

• Strelley

• Meadows

“I can now confidently assist my kids with their learning and homework. The tutor has really motivated me.” - Parent from Edna G Olds Academy
