cRio Multi-Channel Acquisition Unit mod. cRio_VW01
DESCRIPTION cRio_VW is the hardware module for the reading of the
Vibrating Wire and NTC instruments, developed to be integrated into the platform CompactRIO National
Instruments. Pizzi instruments, with more than 30 years of experience in developing, manufacturing and installation
of sensors and systems for geotechnical and structural monitoring, has been selected and accredited by National
Instruments as an alliance partner for the development of reading modules of vibrating wire sensors to be integrated
in the CompactRIO platform. The module cRio_VW has been developed by Pizzi
Instruments in collaboration with the Technical Staff of National Instruments to allow the National Instruments
System to integrate the vibrating wire instruments, widely
used for accuracy, reliability and stability in all kind of geotechnical, structural and hydrological monitoring.
The module cRio_VW can read most of the vibrating wire sensors on the
market and ensures a perfect integration into hw National Instruments.
cRIO is a modular system which, thanks to its flexibility, can be connected to the interface modules and allows to
realize any required solution for data acquisition or
control activity. In combination with cRIO_VW allows you to create solutions that are extremely versatile and
attractive for geotechnical, structural and hydrological monitoring systems.
The integration of the CompactRIO + cRIOvW system with the multiplexer modules developed by Pizzi Instruments
are used to configure
multichannel systems of centralization up to 128 sensors in the same system.
The multiplexer is managed through the cRio_DMux module, which consists of a dedicated communication
driver between the multiplexers and the cRio_VW. The main qualities of the solution
CompactRIO + I / O Pizzi Instruments modules are: Versatility in the applications: integration and
compatibility with I / O modules allow you to configure modular systems customized to meet specific technical
requirements, Reliability and Accuracy in measurements and controls,
High strength in the components to ensure applications in harsh environments,
Easy to set up thanks to LabVIEW systems.

APPLICATION
The vibrating wire sensors due to their reliability, precision and stability are widely used in structural, geotechnical
and hydrological monitoring. The integration between the Pizzi Instruments Vibrating
Wire modules and the National Instruments CompactRIO system provides an optimal solution for automatic
monitoring systems where there are vibrating wire instruments and whenever reliability, precision and
integrability with additional controls are required to the system.
Typical applications for the system with CompactRIO module Vibrating Wire are monitoring of:
---Dams ---Bridges
---Tunnel
---Landslides ---Structures near to construction
zones or structural problems ---Mines
---Pipeline ---Pile
---Geotechnical, structural and hydrological monitoring
FEATURES AND BENEFITS
---Reading interface for vibrating wire sensors developed by National Instruments CompactRIO systems
---High resolution in the VW and NTC measurement ---Possibility to configure multichannel systems with
centralization up to n° 128 channels in a single CompactRIO system.
---Versatility of the systems realized with CompactRIO + cRIO VW thanks to the integration of additional
modules to be able to create a customized system. ---Analog filters to eliminate problems related to incorrect
measurements due to electrical noise ---Simple configuration through interface developed in
LabVIEW development environment Ease of application development control, measurement
and analysis through the LabVIEW graphical
programming environment ---Self-diagnostic for the control of the goodness of
measurement, the correct operation of the module and the system, the quality of the signals of the sensors
---Possibility to interface with the majority of the wibrating wire sensors in commerce
---Robust system developed to work in critical work environments.
---Accurate system for overvoltage protection
OPERATING PRINCIPLE
The Vibrating Wire CompactRIO module has been
developed in accordance with specifications and technical standards of NI.
In order to guarantee the perfect functionality and compatibility with National Instruments hardware, the
module has passed all the tests carried out by National
Instruments Corporate NI in its offices in Austin, Texas Area, USA.
NI CompactRIO is the embedded system for monitoring and control offered by National Instruments, a leader in
automation and control. NI CompactRIO is composed of the NI embedded
controller for communication and processing, the chassis in which is housed the chip FPGA (field programmable
gate array) programmable by the user, a number of I / O modules hot-swappable, including modules developed and
produced by Pizzi instruments. For programming and
configuration the system uses the LabVIEW graphical
programming tools. The module Vibrating Wire CompactRIO has been developed to ensure the reading of
most vibrating wire sensors on the market, with a resolution of 0.02 Hz for the vibrating wire instrumentation
and 24 bits for the NTC. The application of digital filters
and self-diagnostic features eliminate the problems related to incorrect measurements due to electrical noise. The
configuration of the system is done in a simple and intuitive interface configuration software platform built
with LabVIEW graphical development. The potential of the programming environment of LabVIEW allow both a
simple interface customization and configuration management of the system and the development of
software platforms for professional monitoring, measurement and analysis of system and data monitoring.
