Respect for the sea and our customers' experiences is the key to designing innovative and

cost-efficient vessels. Rolls-Royce provides a staff of highly qualified and experienced naval

architects and marine engineers with a creative approach to new technology and timeless

quality.

Creating passenger vessels, often for a niche market, demands unusual solutions where

the only limit is the human imagination. Creating Ro-Pax vessels demands multifunctional

and flexible solutions. Finding the most advantageous technological solutions to these

demands is the kind of challenge we thrive on.

We supply NVC-Design to high standard cruise ferries, Ro-Ro passenger vessels and

high speed passenger ferries. The ship designs can integrate complete system solutions from

Rolls-Royce.

Waterjets and gas turbines for fast and comfortable transport

Propulsion and motion control

Rolls-Royce is a major supplier of controllable-pitch propellers to the cruise

and passenger industry. The highly skewed blades reduce noise, vibration and

cavitation to a minimum. The hydrodynamically optimised hub design

enhances the comfortable ride.

Providing optimum manoeuvrability, and contributing to comfort and

safety, steerable thrusters are a good solution for cruise ships and ferries. The

power source can be gas turbines or diesel generators. Azimuth thrusters can

provide efficient main propulsion and installation flexibility.

Rolls-Royce active fin stabilisers are the most efficient means of controlling

ship rolling motion. The stabilisers have a minimum of moving parts, low

noise hydraulic system and minimum overall weight.

High speed propulsion

With a wide product portfolio, Rolls-Royce can provide full propulsion

systems from the prime mover through to the propulsor.

Designed for minimal noise, vibration and environmental impact, our

compact and powerful propulsion systems such as an optimised gas

turbine/gearbox/waterjet combination can be incorporated in a variety of

layouts to power vessels of any size or hull form.

Power by Rolls-Royce

Nearly 50 years ago, Roll-Royce began a revolution in ship propulsion with

the use of lightweight aero-derivative gas turbines. Ever since, our broad

range of turbines and diesel engines have undergone a continuous process of

technical innovation to provide the optimum in marine prime movers.

Whether direct mechanical or electric drive, simple or advanced cycle,

Rolls-Royce engines are packaged to meet the increasingly diverse range of

passenger and freight vessels around the world today.

Your market is constantly evolving, and keeping in step with the ever

changing needs of vessel builders and owners alike is essential for success.

We are striving to reduce the impact of the propulsion system in terms of first

costs, weight, noise and emissions whilst minimising through life cost of

engine ownership. Within an increasingly demanding marine marketplace,

Rolls-Royce is committed to providing the competitive edge in marine

propulsion power.
