Every year, students from schools across Australia are invited to put pen to paper and enter their original song in ACMF’s annual National Songwriting Competition. Winners receive prize-money which can be allocated towards musical equipment or tuition.

For 2019, the competition has had some changes – there are fewer categories in which to enter, which means that the prizes are more substantial. We have also introduced the ability to enter a song as a school group, which has it’s own prize category – enabling the winning school to purchase valuable resources to improve their music program!

The competition is free to enter – however, we strongly urge you to consider donating to the ACMF to enable us to continue our work bringing music education programs to disadvantaged children throughout Australia.

Our annual National Songwriting Competition is a nationwide initiative designed to encourage creativity and self-expression through songwriting, and is now in its 17

th year.

“Songwriting is a highly creative process. We want kids to free their imagination and engage with learning in a fun way” – Don Spencer, Founder & CEO

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

This year, class speeches will be conducted during Week 7, Term 3. Starting 2nd September. The students

will be required to present a speech to their child’s teacher and are assessed according to the criteria. Select-

ed students from each stage will then be asked to participate in the Crystal Creek Public Speaking Competi-

tion on Thursday, 12th September, 2019 at 9:00am in the 5/6 classroom. Parents/Caregivers are invited

to attend.

One student from each stage will then be invited to represent our school in the Far North Coast Public Speak-

ing Finals on Thursday, 19th September at Tweed Heads South Public School.

Please be aware that the public speaking rules are as follows:

Guidelines:

Students in all sections must begin their speech by acknowledging the chairperson and the members of

the audience e.g. Chairperson, ladies and gentleman, boys and girls… or you may start with a quick

statement to build intrigue before you open with Chairperson…

Students shall not begin with “Today I’m going to talk about”.

Conclude with “Chairperson”. Do not conclude with “Thank you for listening”. Instead say

“Chairperson”.

At no time will scores or comments be given to individual students.

The topic maybe one of the student’s own choice.

Please discourage from giving information reports as their speeches.

Speakers must not use props or external aids such as PowerPoint presentations during their speeches

or act out scenes or sing not matter how good at it they are.

Speeches need to have a clear introduction, middle and conclusion.

Students are encouraged to speak from palm cards and present without the use of microphone. However,

if you child is selected to represent our school in the Far North Coast Public Speaking Awards it is

recommended to use palm cards to jog your memory – DO NOT READ FROM THEM – points will be
