CUBAN REVOLUTION
Timeline
❑ 1954 November - Batista elected as the President of Cuba. ❑ 1955 - Fidel Castro and his brother Raul Castro met Che Guevara
❑ 1958 (March) - Many people turns back against the Batista government, and the US stopped the arm supplies for Batista.
❑ 1958( December) - Guevara led the troops to attack Santa Clara, which resulted a great success.
❑ 1959 (5th January) - After Batista fled Cuba 4 days ago, the President was changed to Manuel Urrutia, the 20th President.
❑ 1959 (15th January) - Castro became the Premier of Cuba.
CAUSES
● Cuba was very wealthy colony and controlled by Spanish.
● Batista took complete control of the country. but during his second term he became strongly anti-communist, gaining him political and military support from the United States.
● Fidel Castro, then a young lawyer and activist, petitioned for the overthrow of Batista, whom he accused of corruption and tyranny.
● He and his brother Raúl founded a paramilitary organization known as "The Movement“ later joined by CHE GUAVARA.
REVOLUTION BEGINS● Castro’s forces took control of Cuba
in 1959.Batista loses support of middle class and flees.

● Castro himself arrived in Havana on 8 January after a long victory march. His initial choice of president, Manuel Urrutia Lleó took office on 3 January
● Fidel Castro governed the Republic of Cuba as Prime Minister from 1959 to 1976 and then as President from 1976 to 2008.
CHE GUAVARA
● Ernesto "Che" Guevara born on June 14, 1928 – October 9, 1967)was an Argentine Marxist revolutionary, physician, author, guerrilla leader, diplomat and military theorist. A major figure of the Cuban Revolution.
● Guevara left Cuba in 1965 to foment revolution abroad, first unsuccessfully in Congo-Kinshasa and later in Bolivia, where he was captured by CIA assisted Bolivian forces and summarily executed.
● Guevara performed a number of key roles in the new government.
PRESENT CONDITION OF CUBA
● Since the fall of the US-backed dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista in 1959, Cuba has been a one-party state led by Mr Castro and - since February 2008 - by his chosen successor and younger brother, Raul.
● The Cuban media are tightly controlled by the government and journalists must operate within the confines of laws against anti-government propaganda.
● Due to communist government,Cuba is not able to develop economically having GDP growth 0.9% (2016).
