Frequently Asked QuestionsDo I need an associate degree in order to transfer to CWU?No. You can still be admitted to CWU without an associate degree. However, if you have the opportunity toobtainaDirectTransferAgreement(DTA)associatedegree, itwillbetoyourbenefitwhenyoutransfertoCWU.OneofthebiggestbenefitsofhavingaDTAdegree is that it will automatically satisfy the General Education Requirements at CWU.

If I have my DTA degree, will I be admitted to CWU?Yes. If you have a DTA degree from any of the colleges listed on the Web at www.cwu.edu/registrar/transfer-equivalencies-policies, you will be given priority admission to CWU. If you continue to earn credits at a college or university after you earn your DTA degree, you need to maintain at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA.

I am a transfer student, but do not have a Direct Transfer Agreement associate degree. How will I know how my credits will transfer to CWU?Youwillreceiveanofficialcreditevaluationafteryouhave been formally admitted to CWU.

If you attended a Washington community college or public university, you can unofficially evaluate your credits by reviewing how courses from your college(s) fulfill CWU General Education Requirements (Transfer Policies), or the Equivalency Sheets, which show all of the equivalent courses including those outside of the general education requirements. Both of these resources can be found by clicking on current equivalencies at www.cwu.edu/registrar/transfer-equivalencies-policies.

Will my associate degree satisfy the CWU foreign language graduation requirement? If you transfer to CWU with a DTA degree and pursue a bachelor of arts degree, you will have to complete one year of college level foreign language prior to graduation from CWU unless you completed two years of a foreign language in high school. If you pursue a degreeotherthanaBA(suchasaBS,BMus,BA-Ed,orBAS)youwillbeexemptfromtheCWUforeignlanguagegraduation requirement.

Does the associate of science transfer degree complete all of the same general education requirements as an AA/DTA degree? No. The Associate of Science degree requires a student to complete three additional courses to satisfy the general education requirements at CWU.

How many total credits will transfer to CWU?CWUwillacceptamaximumof105communitycollegecredits. If you attended a four-year college, you may transferamaximumof135credits.CWUrequirescompletion of 45 credits in residence, 60 upper-division credits, and a minimum of 180 total credits for a degree.

Do I need to send transcripts from all of the colleges I’ve attended if the courses have already been transferred to another college?Yes. You must send transcripts from all colleges attended, even if the transfer credits from other colleges are listed on another college’s transcript.

How and when do I apply to be accepted into my academic major? Each academic department has an application process. You should apply for your major after being admitted to CWU if you will be a sophomore or junior. Since many departments may have application deadlines, pre-admissionrequirements,GPArequirements,and/or limited enrollment capacity, you should contact your specificdepartmenttodeterminewhatisrequired. This is especially true for students interested in the following programs: accounting, communication, business administration, aviation, music, paramedicine, or education.
