Women’s Keelboat Nationals KELOWNA, B.C. 2007 Explore, Challenge, Discover! T he Kelowna Yacht Club (KYC) and the Central Okanagan Sailing Association (COSA) are proud to host the 2007 CYA Women’s National Keelboat Championship, which will take place in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada, September 21-23, 2007. Newcomers to keelboat sailing, as well as those who consider themselves old hands, can take advantage of the training opportunities provided at the one-day Canadian Yachting Assoc. training camp, which will precede the championship, September 21, 2007. Registration is expected to include 20 women’s teams, who will sail a 2- day series in Santana 525s. Check the website for the Notice of Race and for charter boat information. The 2007 CYA Women’s National Keelboat Championship will benefit the NOW CANADA Society, an organization that provides support for female youth who have been victims of exploitation. The races will be sailed from the Kelowna Yacht Club, an active racing and pleasure sailing club, and home of the world’s largest fleet of Santana 525s. KYC annually hosts the Santana 525 Nationals. The Class Association website is as follows: http://www.angelfire.com/tn/santana525 Kelowna is situated midway on the 130 km long Lake Okanagan which is home to Ogopogo, legendary cousin of the Loch Ness monster. Kelowna is a city of over 150,000, situated in the southern interior of British Columbia. September in Kelowna features warm days and cool evenings. A favoured summer resort area, Kelowna offers a wide range of activities and attractions, including over 80 wineries, as many golf courses, and acres of fruit orchards. Accommodations are world class and prices are reasonable. Easily accessible by road or by air, Kelowna is within 4-6 hours driving time of several major cities (including Vancouver, Seattle and Calgary) and has an international airport.
