On Jan. 30, 2014, theUnited States Senate voted67-32 to approve theHomeowner FloodInsurance Affordability Act(S. 1926), sponsored bySenators Menendez (D-NJ)and Isakson (R-GA).

"Thesolid incremental growth that Southwest Floridaexperienced in 2013, especially in the middlepriced markets, is a good sign our housing markethas recovered. Demand for existing homes hasincreased in all price segments and in allneighborhoods."

NAPLES: 2013 SOLID YEAR FOR REALESTATEAll signs point to stabilization for the local housingmarket. Overall pending and closed sales for homesover $300,000 increased by double digits in 2013.

At the beginning of the year, 74 percent of sales weretraditional, while 26 percent were non-traditional (shortsale and foreclosed properties); but by December,traditional sales rose to 83 percent of all sales, leaving17 percent as non-traditional.

NATION'S HOME SALES STRONGESTIN 7 YEARS

Existing-home sales edged up in December,sales for all of 2013 were the highest since2006, and median prices maintained stronggrowth, accord- ing to the NationalAssociation of Realtors®.

**For all of 2013, there were 5.09 million sales,which is 9.1 percent higher than 2012. It was thestrongest performance since 2006 when salesreached an unsustainably high 6.48 million at theclose of the housing boom.
