All the participants had nothing but high praise for his patient and helpful instruction. He mas- terfully took them through the steps for painting a successful urban land- scape. His easy-going and caring way of making each student feel like they could excel with their work made a lasting impression. His demo presentation at the No- vember meeting was witnessed by an overflow crowd of eager artists waiting to see him work. He did not disappoint. He was very methodical about explaining his steps of estab- lishing a workable value scale and how it ap- plied to making his painting work. By applying the dark values to the already painted in mid values the painting of a harbor scene began to take life. He also explained how the main sub- ject led into the center of interest by pathways from all four edges. The interesting application of paint from a mouth atomizer added the final touch to the painting. John Salminen presents a masterful water- color demonstration.

Happy Holidays to all!!!! The annual Christmas Party, Sunday, December 5th will be another grand day celebrating with each other and looking forward to a good year of fun times hope to see all of you there. Our next meeting January 12, 2011 will be a great opportunity to learn more about the new paint products on the market with

a demo from the Golden Paint representative, Barbara Jackson. This new year will bring new programs, workshops and paint outs for our SWS members to look forward to. Everyone mark the second Wednesday of each month as the SWS member meeting date and plan on being there. The nominating commit-tee, headed up by Gaylord O’ Con, will soon be gearing up to put our slate of officers together for next year. If you would like to be a part of the operation of SWS please let Gaylord know. As I like to say “Focus on the present and look to the Fu-ture” to remind us all how fortunate we all are to have found our passion for art and in turn it brings us together. Have a wonderful and successful holiday season with friends and family. Pattie Bowler SWS President 2010 -2011

A mixed bag of techniques featured in Ron Pokrasso April 2011 workshop Ron Pokrasso April 11-14, 2011 (4 Day) Artist’s Showplace $300* $325** Ron Pokrasso’s workshop will cover a wide range of techniques possible in the monotype process and continue through the use of collage , drawing , and multiple plate projects. Students will be encouraged to pursue their artistic vision using mono-type as a mark making tool in combination with whatever other techniques are efficient and available. The notion of the "artist as an inventor" will be stressed as mixed media techniques open the door to limitless opportunities. The approach is energetic and open, as each student's individual style will dictate the direction of the workshop. To see Ron’s work go to: www.ronpokrasso.com
