Highways Permitting/Road Closure Process
• Permits to operate as a ‘Statutory Undertaker’ are applied for and granted before any works are completed on Highways land.
• Permits are applied for with a set duration – time to complete the civils construction, Jointing, Testing, and final reinstatement.
• Permits may need to be extended for several reasons – Inclement weather, unforeseen SEDs, etc
• Delays to civils works has a ‘knock on’ effect to the reinstatement process.
• Traffic Management setups (Signals vs Give & Take) is planned to have both the least negative impact on traffic flows and allow the civils crews to operate safely.
• Road Closures are the last resort and avoided due to lead in times and disruption.
• Where Road Closures are needed affected residents will be notified in advance. Appropriate warning signage will be placed and emergency access allowed at all times.
