FIRE AND EXPLOSION DATA FLAMMABLE PROPERTIES FLASH POINT: Will not burn NFPA HAZARD CLASSIFICATION: HEALTH: 1 FLAMMABILITY: 0 REACTIVITY: 0 FLAMMABLE LIMITS: LEL: not applicable UEL: not applicable EXTINGUISHING MEDIA: Use any media appropriate for surrounding fire FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARDS: Non-Flammable and non-combustible. HAZARDOUS DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTS: Thermal decomposition will produce metal oxides, and other oxidation products. FIRE FIGHTING INSTRUCTIONS: Firefighters should wear a NIOSH/MSHA approved full-facepiece self contained breathing apparatus in positive pressure mode and full turnout gear.

REACTIVITY DATA STABILITY: Stable under normal conditions and use INCOMPATIBILITY: Sodium silicate is alkaline and gels when mixed with acids. HAZARDOUS DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTS: Thermal decomposition products will produce metal oxides and other oxidation products. HAZARDOUS POLYMERIZATION: Will not occur.

HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION EYE: Contact may cause mechanical irritation. SKIN: May be abrasive to the skin. INGESTION: Relatively non-toxic via ingestion. INHALATION: Inhalation of dusts may irritate the nose and throat. SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS: Symptoms of silicosis may include phlegm, coughing and decreased pulmonary capacity. MEDICAL CONDITIONS AGGRAVATED BY EXPOSURE: Long term exposure to dust can exacerbate pre-existing respiratory disease. CHRONIC: Repeated exposure to quartz in dusts over a long period of time can cause progressive fibrotic lung disease TARGET ORGANS: Respiratory system, skin, eyes. CARCINOGENICITY: (respirable silica) NTP: K IARC: 1 OSHA: YES The National Toxicology Program (NTP) classifies quartz as Known to be a carcinogen. IARC classifies inhaled crystalline silica in the form of quartz or cristobalite from occupational sources as carcinogenic to humans (Group 1). FIRST AID MEASURES EYES: Flush eyes with large amounts of water for 15 minutes. If irritation persists, seek medical attention. INHALATION: Remove to fresh air. SKIN: Wash with soap and water. If exposure is prolonged or extensive or if irritation persists, seek medical attention.

If this product has been altered or contaminated with other hazardous materials, appropriate waste analysis may be necessary to determine proper disposal method. A qualified environmental professional should determine waste characterization, disposal, and treatment methods for this material in accordance with applicable Federal, State and local regulations and requirements.

EXPOSURE CONTROLS AND PERSONAL PROTECTION RESPIRATORY: Under normal conditions, below acceptable exposure guidelines, none is required. Appropriate respirator selection depends on the magnitude of exposure. SKIN: Protective gloves EYE: Splash proof goggles or face shield. ENGINEERING CONTROLS: Local exhaust ventilation used in combination with general ventilation as necessary to control air contaminants to at or below PEL.

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS TRANSPORTATION NAME: Not regulated by DOT. CLASS/DIVISION: n/a PACKING GROUP: n/a I.D.
