Handsome waiters in white dress shirts went around serving attendees bub- ble tea and other ne snacks on silver mir- ror plates. Alternative band Mrs. This (位太太樂團) provided rereshing minstrelsy  just beore the speeches began. During the ve-day YDW, 900 rising de- signers aged 32 or under are dispatched to universities all over Taiwan to work on a variety o projects developed bridge the concepts o sustainability and technical in- novation with local culture and real-lie challenges. For instance, Kun Shan University (山科技大學) and the National Taiwan Nor- mal University (臺灣師範大學) coincidentally chose the night market as their topics. Students o landscape architecture and students o textiles and applied arts at Fu Jen Catholic University ( 輔仁大學) are o- cusing on ashion and living spaces or the elderly. Also, students o interactive media design at the National Taipei University o Technology (臺北科技大學) are exploring the protean variations o Han Chinese charac- ters, while students o industrial design at Tatung University (大同大學) are making intelligent toys or kids. Students o inte- rior design at Tainan University o Technol- ogy (台南科技大學) are working on modular shelters or disaster relie. Other topics o include cloud computing, green architecture, and tourism branding. Guests at the launch party include British architect Mark Lintott, programmer Hong Qu who contributed to the early core devel- opment o YouTube, Dan Formosa who is a ounder o Smart Design, various govern- ment ocials and presidents o the partici- pating schools. They wrote down their “design wishes” on long strips o paper, which were sub- sequently tied to the balloons. The party culminated with the balloons being sym- bolically released into the air, evoking the boundless fight o the designers’ dreams. Such complexity has been displayed across local media in recent weeks regard- ing model-turned-actress Sonia Sui (隋棠), who plays the leading role in “The Fierce  Wie,” and is a leading contender to win this year’s Best Actress in a Television Series Award. The leading actor in the same series, James Wen ( 溫昇豪), also aces strong competition against other our nomi- nees, including Jo- seph Chang (張孝全), who was nominated or Golden Horse  Awards twice, and Jin Shi-jye (金士傑), an actor, scriptwrit- er and director, or his role in “The Invaluable Treasure, 1949” (瑰寶 1949).  Writer, singer and MC Matilda Tao (晶瑩) will be the solo host o the award ceremony tonight at the Sun Yat-sen Me- morial Hall in Tai- pei. She is also nom- inated or Best Host in a Variety Program this year. However, her program “Matilda’s Talk Show” (陶子藝言堂) has recently been cancelled. Besides tittot classics such as “Wind and Light” (風光) and “Soaring into the Bright Future” series ( 鵬飛翔天), “The Qin Classic” series (磬典系列), a collaboration between tittot designers and Guan, is con- sidered to take glass art to a new level. For the last 12 years, she has been under the able guidance o Padmashree Guru Dr. Saroja Vaidyanathan.  Anupriya was born into a musical amily o Kolkata, India. Her maternal granda- ther late Dhiren Bose was the legendary Rabindra Sangeet and Nazrul Geeti singer o Bengal. Anupriya has given several solo perormances in India, Malaysia and Sin- gapore over the last 5 years. In the month o March this year, Jeery  Wu ounder o IMC went as a Taiwanese delegate to India, where ater attending  Anupriya’s lecture demonstration, he in- vited her to perorm in Taiwan in the 8th Indian Festival. Since her arrival in Taiwan on Sept. 15, she has had many solo recitals in Taiwan, including in CKS Memorial Hall, Kinmen Island, Kaohsiung and more. She also conducted workshop on Oct. 2 in the Dream Community in Xizhi and got an overwhelming response, where over 40 students attended the ull day workshop. She was really amazed to see the eager- ness o the Taiwanese people to know more about Indian Classical Dance and culture. Anupriya likes Taiwan a lot and says the people here are very warm na- tured and kind. On Oct. 23, she will be conducting an- other workshop in Dream Community Xi- zhi rom 10 a.m. onwards.
