What: Public Meeting to Exhibit Proposed Improvements to SH 6 in De Leon
When: Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017, 5 – 7 p.m. Where: De Leon High School Cafeteria
200 W. Manchaca Ave. De Leon, Texas 76444
DE LEON – The Texas Department of Transportation has scheduled a public meeting to exhibit proposed improvements to State Highway 6 in De Leon. The meeting will be held on Thursday, Dec. 7 from 5 – 7 p.m. at the De Leon High School cafeteria, 200 W. Manchaca Ave.
The proposed improvements include the following:
Widening of the roadway to include two travel lanes in each direction and continuous center turn lane to enhance traffic flow for local and through traffic.
The project would include all-new roadway pavement and the construction of concrete curbs, gutters, sidewalks and ADA ramps.
The project would include storm water drainage improvements.
TxDOT has identified SH 6 as a freight corridor along the majority of its approximately 540-mile route from the Gulf Coast near Galveston to the Oklahoma border near the Panhandle. This designation includes the route through De Leon. The proposed improvements will result in increased mobility and safety for local and through traffic.
We invite all interested citizens to attend this informative event. TxDOT staff will be available to address questions and concerns during the come-and-go, open house event. There will be no formal presentation.
A previous public meeting was held on May 2, 2017, where TxDOT staff received valuable feedback from the community. If approved, construction on this project is anticipated to begin in 2019.
For news media inquiries, contact [email protected] or (325) 643-0413.

Designated Freight Corridor
TxDOT has identified SH 6 as a freight corridor along the majority of its
approximately 540-mile route from the Gulf Coast near Galveston to the
Oklahoma border near the Panhandle. This designation includes the route
through De Leon. The proposed improvements will result in improved
mobility and safety for local and through traffic.
Proposed Improvements
Widening of the roadway from the west city limits to the east city limits of
De Leon.
The project would include two travel lanes in each direction and a contin-
uous center turn lane to enhance traffic flow for local and through traffic.
The project would include all-new roadway pavement and the construc-
tion of concrete curbs, gutters, sidewalks and ADA ramps.
The project would include storm water drainage improvements.
Overhead utility lines and traffic signals would be raised to
accommodate overheight loads up to 18 feet, 6 inches.
The majority of the project would be constructed within existing TxDOT
rights of way. Small portions of additional right of way would need to be
acquired on the southeast and southwest corners of SH 6 (Navarro St.)
and SH 16 (Fannin St.), and from Festival Lane to near the east De Leon
city limits.
