Please note if demand for the scheme is high we may bring the closing date forward depending on numbers returned. Therefore, the sooner you submit your application form the better. Please note that applications cannot be considered if you miss the deadline.

The information you supply on the application form is the basis for considering your initial suitability for the programme for which you are applying. Whether you will be offered a place will depend on the information and evidence you have supplied. Therefore you should be careful to ensure that you have completed the application form with all the relevant information requested.

Further additional Police Cadet Units are planned for 2016 and additional places will become available then.

You should list your preferred locations to attend Volunteer Police Cadets on the application form. The final chosen locations for units have not yet been confirmed and your preferred location choice is for scoping purposes only and will not restrict or impede your application. ASSESSMENT Community and customer focus

At this stage of the application, it is vital that you can demonstrate your ability to be effective in the role of Volunteer Police Cadet. You need to be able to demonstrate that you have the necessary ability for your application to proceed to the next stage- you will be assessed. In this question on how you have acted in trying to deal with or assist another person to deal with a problem. Please answer truthfully as you may be asked to expand on these examples at interview. Do not use extra pages. Extra pages will not be scored.It is very important that Volunteer Police Cadets can make good relationships and can help people.

Please recall an occasion when you helped someone who has been unhappy either with something that had been done to them or something they had been given. If possible, use an example of when you have done something more than listen or give advice to solve the problem.

VETTING

In accordance with HM Government’s Vetting Policy, Leicestershire Police is required to carry out security checks on all individuals to be employed as police staff members.

In order to facilitate this requirement, a detailed security questionnaire is required to be completed by applicants. This will cover the applicant and his/her immediate family.

The information contained within the questionnaire enables a number of checks to be completed, including the National Collection of Criminal Records and relevant departmental and police records, security service records and credit reference checks, with a review of personal finances to be undertaken.

It is the policy of HM Government that no one should be employed who is or has been in, or is associated with:

espionage; terrorism; sabotage;

actions intended to overthrow or undermine Parliamentary democracy by political, industrial or violent means;

is or has recently been a member of any organisation which has advocated such activities;

associated with any such organisation or any of its members in such a way as to raise reasonable doubts about his/her reliability;

is susceptible to pressure or improper influence, for example because of current or past conduct;

has shown dishonesty or lack of integrity which throws doubt on their reliability;

has demonstrated behaviour or is subject to circumstances which may otherwise indicate unreliability.

Please note that failure to disclose relevant circumstances or information will be regarded as evidence of unreliability and will be taken into account in assessing suitability for security clearance. It is therefore vital to be open and honest in replies to the questions set out in the security questionnaire.
