At Stanislaus Community Foundation, we believe our better days are still ahead. Building a better community begins now, and it begins with a new approach to philanthropy. We believe that philanthropy can – and should – be as actively engaged as the public, nonprofit, private and faith sectors that have traditionally responded to regional needs.
Philanthropy can play a role that other sectors find challenging to take on.

2017 Financial Performance
My experience in the New Leadership Network
was deeply transformative. Not only was I given tools I could
use in a professional environment, but most importantly, I had the opportunity to build trusted
relationships with inspiring individuals who share a passion and a vision for the community where we live and serve. I am
encouraged by the different community projects already in place as result of this network and look forward to using
the knowledge and relationships gained from this experience to make a greater impact. I commend
Stanislaus Community Foundation for bringing this world-class program
to our region.

Leaders to Opportunities
The timing of my integration into the work of the Community
Foundation and the New Leadership Network was remarkable. I was just beginning to face my
limitations as an individual and knew that in order to have maximum impact on the community and be a full and healthy
individual, that could only happen by strengthening the connections of people who share this community and the vision for it. What
I’ve learned through the New Leadership Network has helped me to realize where I can best serve and
bring value to the community, and has given me the support and partners
to succeed in that work.

UCP of Stanislaus County believes in the benefit of
collaboration and continuing to grow and develop strong
connections. Building strong community connections adds value to the
services UCP provides the developmentally disabled population here in the county. This is a relationship
over the long-term that will add tremendous value not only monetarily but also through building positive and
impactful relationships. UCP of Stanislaus County looks forward to working more closely with Stanislaus
Community Foundation well into the future to contribute to the amazing impact
they are making with the community-at-large.
The Transfer of Wealth study provided nonprofit organizations
throughout the county with invaluable data to share with stakeholders. Creating
dialogue and connecting with the community at large is extremely important, and the
Community Foundation has been very helpful in leading the charge
on issues affecting the entire nonprofit sector.

To address these issues, Stanislaus Community Foundation, with support from College Futures Foundation, launched Stanislaus Futuresin2016asamulti-year,multi-agencyinitiativetochange the college-going culture in our community.
Participation with Stanislaus Futures
has provided a much wider lens for us as we look at the issues surrounding college access, math and even Stan Reads. The most beneficial outcome for us has been the formation of various partnerships through the work we have done. We’ve created a Math Task Force, which brings a variety of stakeholders from across our District together to discuss what high-level math instruction should look like. The work I’ve been a part of in a relatively short period of time has been extremely valuable. Thank you for all the work you are doing!

Soon, we found ourselves expectinganewadditiontoourfamily!

The Ryan Michael Barber Memorial FundRather than celebrating our new addition, we found ourselves grappling withtheheartbreakinglossofour sweet baby boy.
To honor the memory of Baby Ryan, and to show support to the community thatcarriedusthroughourdarkestdays, we wanted to find a way to “pay it forward” and spread happiness and joytoModestofamilies.Manyofourfriends, familyandneighborsaskedifthere was a place they could donate in Ryan’s name.
We chose to establish a fund with the Stanislaus Community Foundation to hold donations until we decided on a meaningful way to honor Baby Ryan.
As we began researching community initiatives, we connected with the CollegeAreaNeighborhoodAlliance(CANA)andlearnedofplannedimprovementstoGraceadaandEnslenParks.WesoondiscoveredthepoolinGraceadaPark–thelastremainingpublic pool in Modesto – had been inoperable for the last four years. We knewrestoringthepoolandsplashpadwould be the perfect way to honor our son and benefit our entire community.
