The Online Giving option available to all parishioners
is an easy, convenient and secure way to make regular
offertory donations. In addition, Online Giving may
also be used to make donations on Holy Days, for sec-
ond collections (i.e., Saint James School, seasonal shar-
ing and St. Vincent de Paul) as well as Archdiocesan
collections which occur throughout the year. Taking
advantage of Online Giving eliminates the need to
write checks and keep track of envelopes. It also bene-
fits the parish because of the consistency of the support
and it eliminates the cost of printing and mailing enve-
lopes. To learn more or to sign up go to the Parish web-
site, www.stjamesmanchester.org; scroll to the bottom
of the page and click on Online Giving. If you have
questions or need additional information, call Marisa

Do you shop on Amazon.com? Amazon's charitable giv-
ing program, AmazonSmile, will donate a percentage of
your total Amazon purchases to Saint James School at
no additional cost to you! Simply type http://
smile.amazon.com/ch/06-0653122 into your website
browser and begin shopping. Or, visit http://

right to the school's direct fundraising account).
Entering Amazon through the “Smile” link gives you
the same products, same price, same service as Ama-

James School. We thank you for your consideration of
support.
Dear Sweet Family of St. James,
Thank you for your generous gift of gift cards and food
to bless our Joy of Community Sharing and food pantry
guests. You are amazing partners with huge hearts.
The statement, “we are in this together”, that came out
shortly after the pandemic hit, did not mean much
more than a clever cliché to me at the time, but it has
deep meaning to me now, nine months in. MACC’s
resources would have been easily depleted by COVID
19, if not for many people like you who showed up to
invest their time, talent and treasure to support this
good work.
Your gift, combined with the generosity of many others
like you, provides MACC with the precious resources
needed to fight what is here and whatever may come
next. I am not worried because I now truly believe, “we
are in this together”, and we will come out on the other
side together.
Bless you,
Beth Stafford

MISSALETTES AVAILABLE FOR PARISHIONER
PERSONAL USE
Missalettes are now available at the entrances of the
church for parishioners to take home. We ask that you
take one and bring it back and forth with you each time
you attend Mass. Considering the restrictions we are
observing because of the coronavirus, once you take a
missalette, please don’t leave it behind in church.
EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP - RECOGNIZE GOD IN
YOUR ORDINARY MOMENTS
When God Whispers
“You don’t need to shout. My hearing works just fine.”
Are you a parent that has used that one on your kids?
I’m not sure at what age they realize that the volume of
their voice doesn’t correlate to the likelihood of receiving
a favorable reply — it might be sometime in the teenage
years, when the talking slows down altogether.
But I’ve got to admit, it would be nice if God always
gave us a loud and dramatic sign when He wanted
something — the booming voice and the torn-open heav-
ens (“This is my beloved Son!”) really get the message
across. Sometimes I find myself envious of the Apostles,
who were able to witness such things in person.
The fact of the matter is, in the year 2021, God is more
likely to speak in a whisper than in a shout. The prophet
Isaiah forewarns that Christ himself will not be a noise-
maker — for all his preaching, he will not cry out or
shout to bring forth justice to the nations. His way is al-
together different than that.
We are not the Apostles, and we do not have the privi-
lege of seeing the Holy Spirit descend on Christ like a
dove. But here’s the good news: God doesn’t need to
shout. Our spiritual hearing works just fine. We just
have to be listening.
Let’s wake up each morning ready to hear God’s whis-
pers throughout the day. Let’s make a conscious effort to
invite those whispers into our hearts, where they can
become a catalyst for grace in this world.

Dear Parishioners,
As the Christmas season comes to a close, I’d like to take
a moment to thank everyone who contributed to
making our Christmas liturgies so beautiful. This year
between Saint James and Church of the Assumption we
celebrated nine Masses between Christmas Eve and
Christmas Day with a total in-person attendance of 621
people. We also offered Christmas Mass on YouTube
which was watched over 2000 times.
With deep appreciation, I’d like to acknowledge the ef-
forts of those who helped make this Christmas season
both meaningful and beautiful for the parishioners of
Saint James Parish.
Our maintenance staff and Deacon LaRocque, under the
direction of Rich Yirga, our facilities manager, coordi-
nated the decoration of our churches so that they would
reflect the beauty of Christmas. Rich also produces our
YouTube Masses and was responsible for the exquisite
camera work.
The members of our various ministries including read-
ers and ministers of Holy Communion provided assis-
tance at the Masses. Ushers, assisted by members of the
Knights of Columbus, ensured that attendance at the
Christmas Masses went smoothly and conformed with
state guidelines. The office staff scheduled and coordi-
nated Mass registration.
I’d like to especially thank James Bagni, our director of
music ministries, who scheduled the musicians for all of
our Masses. Their musical contributions added to the
beauty and dignity of all of our liturgies and made it
feel like Christmas! Thank you for your service and
contributions to our Parish.
May God continue to bless us in 2021.
The Baptism of the Lord

The Baptism of the Lord
We need history. We need it in order to understand our-
selves, personally and collectively. The pieces of our histo-
ries may not have always been the most positive, honest,
exemplary, dignified, proud and best moments of our
lives, but they are ours. We have to acknowledge, remem-
ber, accept, and often heal them. We cannot forget them or
pretend that they never existed. As horrible as the atroci-
ties of events like Auschwitz, brutal injustices committed
throughout the human journey, or personal painful expe-
riences in our own stories, we need to remember. These
times when humanity in general or people in particular
have lost their way are times that need to be reconciled
and redeemed.
If we lose the memories, we will make the same mistakes
again. The human soul needs a strong sense of affirma-
tion, direction, and clear purpose. Without these essen-
tials, we will easily run amuck and repeat the sins of our
past. God’s voice throughout history has spoken precisely
about this! We are reminded through the voices and ex-
ample of many prophets and witnesses not to make the
same mistakes again, come back to center, discover the
purpose given to us by God, maintain a sense of proper
direction, seek healing for wounds and be reconciled to
our Creator.
Baptism is so incredibly important for the salvation of hu-
mankind, not only eternally but here and now. Our exist-
ence depends upon it. It gives us the affirmation we need
from God by gifting us with the same intimate relation-
ship Jesus had with the Father. We are blessed with the
direction and clear purpose we need in order to be pro-
ductive stewards and faithful Christians. Baptism calls us
to remember, accept, and deal with the sins and inequities
of our past regardless of how hurtful and serious. We con-
sciously choose to turn away from them and put on the
new life of Christ. To do this well, we must look hard and
long at our sins and failings, listen to what they are saying
and learn from them. If we ignore the past, collectively or
personally, or pretend that it never happened, we will
never grow. We will surely die.
People need to hear the message, lived and spoken, deliv-
ered by the baptized members of the Body of Christ. It is
an essential message of hope that is layered with visions
of justice, peace, reconciliation, redemption, blessing, and
healing. It is a message that helps us remember what has
gone before, the graces and the sins, and bring ourselves
by God’s help where we need to be. We are called to do
much more than sit home behind our closed doors. We
have a message to deliver. Are we ready to do so?

THANK YOU FOLKS!!
The Knights of Columbus, Council 1155, would like to
thank the parishioners of Saint James Parish for the gen-
erous donations to our annual “Coats for Kids” drive.
Each year you have warmed more children than the
year before. This year we were especially blessed.
Thanks to you the Knights were able to deliver an
amazing 133 coats to children in need in Manchester.
We also collected 19 sweatshirts and dozens of hats,
scarfs, gloves, and mittens. People keep thanking the
Knights for the help. Well, we deliver, because you
have delivered. Thank you!
Today we celebrate the feast of the Baptism of the Lord and
mark the end of the Christmas season. In Baptism, we
profess our commitment to the Church’s beliefs, values, and
vision. Mark this day by reflecting on the symbolism and
meaning of your own Baptism, your membership in the com-
munity, and the mission on which you were sent.
Baptism…
…makes us “members of one another”.
...reveals the equality and dignity of each member of
the community.
...requires us to reject sin and re-assess our values,
decisions, and lifestyles.
...invites us to a vocation of holiness and practice of
charity.
...leads us to imitate Christ’s example.
