Affordances of the Web 2.0
Advances in computer technology have
created remarkable new ways to connect
language learners. […] Internet tools can
facilitate a learning environment based on
authentic communication, collaborative
learning, and creative, goal-oriented
activity
Warschauer,1996
In reality
“gap between the expectations/promise of the
use of technologies and the actual experiences
and uses” Conole & Alevizou, 2010
New technologies used for:
- Class preparation
- Access to authentic material
- Communication between
learners within the class
Interactions with other learners or
with native speakers rarely
appearing:
- In class practice
- In teaching/learning material
- In training material for teachers

Guichon, 2012
Ollivier & Puren, 2013
Project rationale
Digital tools are still under-used to
enhance language teaching and
learning
(Guichon, 2012; OECD, 2015).
e-langtrain teachers to reflect on and evaluate
the integration of digital tools to “develop
and secure the linguistic, numerical and
cognitive abilities” of learners
(Recommendation CM/Rec(2012)13)
Promoting some of the principles
of the CEFR
Tasks leading to multiple
interaction patterns
Action-oriented & socio-
interactional approachesPlurilingualism &
intercultural competence
Innovative pedagogical framework:Combining interactions & language engineering
social interactions /
communication
Language engineering
socio-interactional and
communicative skills
Linguistic skills
Target audience:
Teachers & teacher trainers
Training in digital literacy to empower teachers to:
foster the integration of
digital technology in
specific educational
contexts and approaches:- develop tasks using varied
online interactions,
- critically select digital tools
and resources to develop
language and intercultural
skills necessary to
complete these tasks
assist learners in a
critical use of online
resources and tools:- greater autonomy in
language practice and
learning
- building Personal
Learning Environments
TASKS
Type of tasks: What? With whom?
Technological tools best adapted to task-based interactions
How?
Language engineering: selection of digital tools and resources
Inventary of knowledge and language skills
needed to carry out interations/tasks
TASKS:
Social interaction dictates the action

Builds on the findings and outputs
of previous projects
Envisaged outputs
Pedagogical framework for the integration of
ICT based on an analysis of current research &
recent publications;
Training modules on an online platform;
Trainer kit for multipliers;
Webinars;
Training sessions could be offered if
required by some institutions
Training modules on an online platform
Focus on language didactics,
methodology of language learning
Reflexion on how the integration of new
technology can help in the development of
tasks/skills (technology not the starting
point)
From learning interactions to social
interactions
Module users experience tasks first hand
Module users contribute examples of
activities
