There are many reasons we loveour Tampa Bay Rays! Of course, there are the games, where everyinning has its white-knuckled, yell-out-loud moments and the breaksare filled with laugh-out-loud anticsthat keep the live audience participat-ing. There is no doubt, as you watchthem heat up the diamond, that theRays players have their heads andtheir hearts in the game. Further-more, they have put their hearts intothe Tampa Bay community and haveput their heads together to make areal difference for the people livinghere.

Spanning the organization fromthe players to the management, theTampa Bay Rays make it their teammission to stay active, both on andoff the diamond. The Rays organiza-tion is much more than entertain-ment and finely tuned athleticism –though we do love that! From theplayers and their families to the cor-porate employees, the Rays are dedi-cated to making a difference in thecommunity.

One way that the Rays havebeen a positive force in Tampa Bay isthrough the Rays Baseball Founda-tion, a 501(c) 3 non-profit organiza-tion that supports youth educationdevelopment. The Tampa Bay Raysand their support team continually

pitch in to help families and individu-als in our community through chari-ties, volunteer programs andpartnership affiliates.

This Summer: RAYS UP For Our Community!

Most recently, the Rays created anew campaign called “RAYS UP forOur Community.” Launched onJune 1st and lasting until September20th, the “RAYS UP for Our Com-munity” campaign focuses on fourkey areas – Kids, Heroes, Health andEducation. Additionally, every gameduring each two-week campaignflight will highlight a partner agency“Everyday MVP” on the telecast andsocial media.

The four key areas of focus eachhave a Rays team ambassador, includ-ing pitchers Chris Archer and MattMoore, manager Kevin Cash andinfielder Evan Longoria. Each cam-paign has a deep personal meaningfor them.

Tampa Bay Rays president BrianAuld says, “We enter the 10th year ofStu Sternberg’s ownership with a re-newed focus on our mission to ener-gize our community through themagic of Rays baseball. The ‘RAYSUP For Our Community’ campaigncelebrates our community partnersand helps share their successes with awider audience.”

Matt Moore heads up theRAYS UP for Heroes campaignfrom June 29th to July 12th.Matt chose RAYS UP for OurHeroes, stating, “Baseball is ournational pastime but we wouldn’tbe able to enjoy it without the greatmen and women who protect us. Igrew up on an Air Force base so Iknow firsthand that American he-roes, like my dad, sacrifice everyday to keep us safe. Your TampaBay Rays are committed to energiz-ing our community through themagic of Rays’ baseball and support-ing those who give so much for ourfreedom. Join us as we rally ourcommunity around active dutymilitary, Veterans, first respondersand their families.” RAYS UP forHeroes highlights the “EverydayMVPs” in our community to thankthem for their service and dedicationto the safety of our community.

If yes, then this book was written for you.Learn from Dr. Kerr and how his ap-proach to Restoration Medicine willhave you feeling like a twenty-some-thing. See how hormone optimiza-tion, diet, and exercise all cometogether to transform the lives of peo-ple just like you with many real-people

success stories. Dr. Kerr does a greatjob at communicating the informationin a fun way without too much med-ical jargon. This book can be used as aguide by both doctors and patients.”

Paul Arnold, MD said this aboutRejuveNation, “I highly recommendthis book. It is an ‘easy read’ bookwith a wealth of knowledge. As aUrologist, I treat many patients withlow testosterone. For patients that areseeking rejuvenation medicine, I referthem to read Dr. Kerr’s book. Dr.Kerr has done a great job. It is a com-plete and informative book on rejuve-nation medicine.”

Dr. Kerr & The NRC is aGame Changer

Dr. Kerr, who was on his first ofmany television appearances, is incred-ibly excited about it all, because help-ing people to feel their best issomething he’s truly passionate about. For those of us who just don’t havethat pep in our step anymore, Dr. Kerrhas the answer.

One patient said, “If you areyoung and feel old, or old and feelyour age and think there is nothingyou can do about it – think again. It ismy pleasure to recommend that youcontact Dr. Kerr at National Rejuvena-

tion Centers and experience, as I did, what I consider a miracle transforma-tion in my health, appearance and sex-ual potency which amazingly wasachieved in only a few short months.”

Dr. Kerr explains on his blog,“Oftentimes when I meet new pa-tients or potential patients, their fasci-nation lies into bio-identical hormonereplacement and if it is right for them.I explained to them that if it is deemedthat they are deficient in certain hor-mones and they are replaced, they willfeel much better. When people feelbetter, they have the ability to be moreactive. To take advantage of this newenergy and to enhance the results ofoptimal hormone levels, I recommendexercise protocols specific to the goalsof the patient.”

National Rejuvenation Centersuses state-of-the-art techniques in bio-identical hormone replacement therapyto safely balance hormone levels of pa-tients over the age of 35 to that of ahealthy and athletic twenty-year-old,which is what makes all the difference.Combining nutrition and personalizedexercise plans with the hormone re-placement therapy, patients feel aworld of difference in just a matter ofweeks. The best part? Besides feelinglike you’re 20 again? Unlike many hor-mone replacement clinics, treatment atNRC is designed to be affordable.

One female patient said, “I havenever felt better. I have lost weightnaturally and kept it off. Most of all,my whole outlook on life and my

every day mood is great. No morehot flashes, no more mood swings. Ilove life again and have as much en-ergy as I did before menopause. I feelfabulous!”

Another patient had this to sayabout RejuveNation, “If you’re con-sidering hormone treatment com-bined with an exercise program, thisbook is straight forward and an in-formative read on the subjects. I’m ac-tually a patient of Dr. Kerr and havebeen for nearly three years. Dr. Kerr’syears of research, personal experiencesand knowledge have produced one ofthe world’s foremost experts on a sub-ject often confused and misunder-stood by many. If your location makesvisiting his National RejuvenationCenter in Florida impractical, thisbook is your next best option.”

Luckily for us, Dr. Kerr and theNRC are right here in our area!Weight loss, an increased sex-drive, amore positive outlook, and the energyto enjoy life again – that is what pa-tients at NRC are reporting.

Nearly four summers ago Trinitybecame home to the first TCBY Self-Serve on the West Coast of Florida.Owners Patti and Jay Silar opened thestore with their daughter Jenifer Silar-Mills, who is the store’s marketingmanager. The idea of opening theTrinity location came quickly to Pattiand Jay when they visited a TCBYSelf-Serve store in Charlotte, NorthCarolina. The amazing taste makes ithard to believe the frozen yogurt is96, 98 or 100 percent fat free. Thecouple knew it was a great business tobring back home to Trinity, where ourhot days make cool treats even morescrumptious.

TCBY, also known as “The Coun-try’s Best Yogurt,” originally opened in1981, and is the oldest frozen yogurtcompany in the United States. Thecompany has high health and qualitystandards that appeal to Patti Silar whois a retired RN. Patti says, “TCBYtakes pains to purchase products thatare high quality. Fruit is sanitized tomeet TCBY requirements, and wedon’t use frozen fruit because it turnsto mush on your yogurt. Our fruit are

in their own juices instead of syrup.”Jay Silar adds, “Our yogurts are

kosher and Halal certified. We wantto meet our customers’ needs.”

TCBY’s yogurt is delicious, smooth and creamy. The possibilitiesof flavor combinations and toppingsseem endless, but you many not haveknown it has great nutritional value, too. TCBY has super frozen yogurts(Super Fro-Yo), which is a new classifi-cation of frozen yogurt that sets a highstandard for nutrition within thefrozen yogurt industry. To qualify as aSuper Fro-Yo, TCBY’s frozen yogurtsmeet or exceed (based on a four oz.,half-cup serving) having at least threegrams of fiber, seven types of live andactive cultures, four grams of protein, and 20 percent daily value of vitaminD and calcium. The fiber and probi-otics in TCBY yogurt help you feelsatisfied and aid your body in diges-tion, boosting your general health.Vitamin D and calcium are also essen-tial for bone and muscle health. Theprotein in TCBY yogurt containsamino acids that help proper musclemaintenance. Eating healthy hasnever tasted so good!

TCBY always carries a nosugar added flavor and would let usknow when it arrived. The staff atTCBY is so friendly and treated us liketheir extended family. When it cametime for my daughter’s birthday she

couldn’t imagine having it anywhereelse than at TCBY and several of thestaff were there to wish her a HappyBirthday. Trinity’s TCBY is bright and fun, with a textured wall that changes col-ors. An employee is happyto give you a sample. You don’t needto decide on just one flavor either. You can fill your 16 or 25 oz. cup withas little or as much as the cup can hold.Bananas are available to turn yourfrozen yogurt into a banana split. If

you don’t like your flavors mixing, cupdividers can be used to separate them.

The ten available flavors rotate orchange periodically, but there is alwaysa no-sugar-added option and a non-milk based option. For example, Silk™Coconut Milk and Silk™ ChocolateAlmond Milk are the current non-dairy options available. In the upcom-ing months additional frozen yogurtflavors TCBY will be carrying includeEnglish Toffee, Blueberry, ChocolateChip Mint and Apricot. After you dis-pense your frozen yogurt, head overto the topping bar, which has over 45different toppings to choose from, including fresh fruit and crushedReese’s Peanut Butter Cups. Dr. McCaslin was the first den-tist in the Tampa Bay Area to get theOmnicam, an amazing technologythat has been in the making for over25 years. Expressions Cosmetic &Family Dentistry started putting theCEREC Omnicam to use in 2012to scan teeth for precise 3D imagesin natural color, which allows formeasurements for fitting crowns, bridges and implant restorations. The CEREC 3D scanning technol-ogy has virtually eliminated the needfor temporary crowns because of itsexceptional precision.

“All ceramic crowns can be donehere in one day with the Omnicam,”says Dr. McCaslin. And if you needa bridge or want a gold crown, yourimage can be transmitted in two-tenths of a second to a local dentallab so they can see the fit right awayand get the most precise fit possible.“It eliminates the need for multipleimpressions,” explains Dr. McCaslin.“It allows a complex restorative caseto be a simple procedure.”

Introducing GALILEOS TheNewest in 3D Imaging!

Dr. McCaslin’s excitement tobring this advanced imaging technol-ogy to her practice shows just howdedicated she is to her patients’ dentalhealth and her ongoing commitmentto early detection of oral health issues.“This is where dentistry is headed,”says Dr. McCaslin about theGALILEOS 3D Scanner. “Now wehave the ability to look at a person’strue skull. We can see past dental work, root canals, bony structures of the jaw-bone, the actual tooth on a 3D planeand nerves along the jawbone, which iswhere cancers can metastasize, alongwith clues of other underlying healthissues that may not be symptomatic.GALILEOS will allow better integra-tion between doctors and dentists.”

The GALILEOS 3D Scanner ismanufactured by the same companythat allows for same-day crowns tobe made. The future of dentistry isfocused on efficient service that candiagnose and treat current problems,as well as foresee those that may occurin the near future. This new type ofdentistry has just begun to break intothe possibilities of 3D imaging andscanning for optimal oral care and its

relation to overall body health. “We are seeing things we have

never seen before,” says Dr. McCaslin.“I have seen so much in the past nineyears; I can only imagine what willhappen in the next nine. This technol-ogy allows us to get more of an inklingof what is going on with the mouthand body as a whole. Since theGALILEOS allows us to look at theneck and head in 3-D, we have beenable to better see inflammations in

bone directly and indirectly related togum disease, jaw structure related toTMJ, and even whether someone’sthroat is wide enough for properbreathing during sleep...this kind oftechnology is opening a new windowfor dentists and our patients.”

Expressions Cosmetic & FamilyDentistry is truly focused on preven-tive dental care, which is why Dr.McCaslin is so excited to have broughtthe GALILEOS scanner into her prac-

tice. Diseases within the body can beseen through the mouth. A study re-cently showed that people who receiveregular cleanings (twice a year) have a24 percent lower risk of heart attackand a 13 percent less risk of stroke.Gum inflammation can occur due toa slew of health issues including:diabetes, heart disease, Alzheimer’s,dementia and other serious diseases. Many oral cancers and bone changesin the mouth are asymptomatic, mean-ing there are no symptoms. When thecancers in the mouth have symptoms, the cancer is usually in a later stage.

Dr. McCaslin has faith that the

future of dentistry pairing with themedical field will help better assess anddetect cancers in the mouth and theentire body more quickly through acollaborative relationship. More med-ical insurance companies are coveringthe new technologies being released, such as the GALILEOS 3D. Dr.McCaslin says, “Medical insurance maypay for some x-rays, comprehensiveexams, and provide benefit to thepatient receiving a 3D scan as well, without an extra trip to a radiology lab.Patients with medical insurance arealso finding that their plan covers oraldevices, sleep aids and TMJ devices.”

Drs. Stephanie Eldridge, MD,MPH and Amir Shirmohammad, MD,MPH are a husband and wife teamthat knows what it’s like to have abusy family lifestyle. In fact, they havetwo lovely daughters and another oneon the way! High school sweethearts,“Dr. Shirmo,” as most patients callhim, and Dr. Eldridge met when theywere just 17, and they’ve been to-gether ever since. Both of them gradu-ated Cum Laude from TulaneUniversity in New Orleans where theymajored in Cell and Molecular Biol-ogy. They went on to earn Master’sDegrees in Public Health and Epi-demiology before earning their Med-ical Degrees, staying at Tulane theentire time. Serving Trinity and itssurrounding areas since 2007, Dr.Shirmohammad and Dr. Eldridgehave already met their goal of creatinga new kind of medical practice asTrinity Family Physicians is one thatcertainly stands out from the restin its dedication, commitment andfollow-through.

Taking Time With Patients is Im-portant

Most of us do not enjoy going tothe doctor. We want it to be quick andpainless. We want the drive-throughversion of anything that’s not pleasantthese days. However, if you go to a“drive-through” service for healthcare, where the goal is to get as manypatients rotated through the door aspossible, you’re going to just be anumber. Trinity Family Physicians isthe opposite of drive-through care. That’s not to say that they aren’ttimely, or that they don’t value theirpatients’ time, because they do, buttheir commitment to each patient issomething that has more value, andthat’s something I’m willing to waitfor. I know that when it’s my turn,

I’m not going to be turned awaywhen I ask a question or voice aconcern. I’m not going to be told tomake another appointment. Each timeI see a doctor at Trinity Family Physi-cians, I feel that I’m being listenedto, and that my care is their utmostpriority at that time.

One patient admits to drivingmore than an hour to get to TrinityFamily Physicians, saying, “I am will-ing to drive to see them no matterwhere I move, and I’m willing towait because it’s not that often thatyou find a physician that offers thatkind of care.”

Dr. Shirmohammad says, “Weoffer our full attention to each of ourpatients, and we don’t want to berushed. While we have a goal to have

each patient checked in and out withina certain amount of time, our true in-vestment is in the time it takes foryour health to be properly evaluated.”

Another patient said, “They arethe absolute best! My wife and I wereboth looking for ‘old fashioned’ doc-tors, the type we had when we werekids that would take time with youand seemed truly concerned for yourhealth. Drs. Shirmo and Eldridge wereexactly what we were looking for. They have been nothing short offantastic in helping both of us throughour health issues the last several years.”

sionals that assist Drs. Shirmohammadand Eldridge. In fact, their frontoffice staff is trained to have medicalknowledge as they are on the frontline, answering phones and talkingto patients.

“We don’t offer care over thephone,” explains Dr. Shirmohammad,“but we pride ourselves on having astaff that is aware of possible emergentlife threatening conditions and it hassaved patient’s lives, in all honesty.”He adds, “We try to see patients thesame day or the next day when they’resick, and if we’re here, we do what wecan to see people right away. We alsohave an incredible support staff thatallows us more availability. They arevery well-trained and give excellentcare.”

Dr. Shirmohammad is referringto their highly qualified PhysicianAssistant Mrs. Kristina Reeves, PA-C,and Nurse Practitioner Mrs. KyleMaldonado ARNP-C. Kristina andKyle are always available to seepatients, especially for that last minute,“I might need an antibiotic” kind ofsituation.

Preventative, Communicative CareWhile the care at Trinity Family

Physicians is all about the back-to-

basics, one-on-one approach, every-thing else is pretty state-of-the-art! Forexample, patients can now log into apatient portal to access medicalrecords, request appointments or re-fills on medication, and even sendquestions to the doctors! All of theirrecords are digital, which means theycan send and receive records fromother offices within minutes whennecessary. They also send prescriptionsto the pharmacy of your choice.

Educating Patients to Stay WellTrinity Family Physicians and

their staff are focused on helping theirpatients feel well and stay well, whichmeans that education is one of theirtop priorities. As a result, the doctorsand their staff often offer health semi-nars on specific topics such as diabetes, nutrition, supplements and weightloss.

Weight loss is a popular topic atTrinity Family Physicians, and they’vebeen helping lots of patients learn howto shed those pounds the right way,and keep them off. Dr. Shirmoham-mad explains, “We spend time gettingto know our patients and we teachpeople how to eat properly, and we’rehelping people avoid taking unneces-sary medicine by teaching them about

the many natural and herbal supple-ments that we have available.”

Offering general vitamins foroverall wellness, sleep aids, supple-ments for heart health, safe weightmanagement, vision support andmore, Trinity Family Physicians offersthe NutraMetrix line of supplementsand vitamins right there at their office.Patients love the convenience of beingable to get natural health supplementsat Trinity Family Physicians and ratherthan guessing what to buy at a store, they can get what their physician rec-ommends.

Another way that Dr. Eldridgeand Dr. Shirmohammad reach out tothe community and patients with im-portant tips and information is withFacebook. “Like” Trinity FamilyPhysicians on their Facebook pagebecause there, the doctors let peopleknow if there’s a virus outbreak in theneighborhood, if the flu shots areavailable, and they also give helpfultools to incorporate wellness in gen-eral. Just recently, Drs. Shirmoham-mad and Eldridge created another wayto involve themselves in a communitywhere we have everyday heroes thatthey would like to recognize with theirTrinity Family Physicians’ Tampa Bay

Making A Difference Award. The firstrecipient of the Award will be an-nounced in the September issues ofNeighborhood News & Lifestyles, alongwith information about how you cannominate someone for the ongoingTampa Bay Making A DifferenceAward (winners chosen quarterlythroughout the year).

Using all of the tools that theycan, Dr. Eldridge and Dr. Shirmoham-mad strategize with their patients foroverall health care, to help us meet thegoals we have, and encourage us tolive our healthiest lives.

More than that, they providepersonalized, professional care. I knowthat I can count on them when I needthem, and I’m grateful to have founddoctors like the ones at Trinity FamilyPhysicians, so close to home.
