Healthcare has become incrediblycompartmentalized over the years, which basically means that if you’reone person with a bum knee, a badback and an addiction to cheese pizzaand chocolate chip cookies, your pri-mary care doctor could have you see-ing a myriad of specialists. One whospecializes in knees, one for your back, one for weight loss and so on. Would-n’t it be great if there was a place whowould give you the one-on-one per-sonalized, hands-on attention thatwould help your body perform better? For eight years, the staff at ImpactHealth has been helping clients whosuffer from pain caused by injuries, disease, or simply age. By educatingpeople about their own bodies andworking with them in personalized,one-on-one sessions that yield incredi-ble, tangible results, Impact Health ischanging lives. Located at 180 Alter-nate 19 N. in Palm Harbor, ImpactHealth is convenient to all of North-

ern Pinellas County.

Impact Health Treats the WholeBody!

Impact Health is owned by hus-band and wife team Joe Millen PT,MTC and Claudia Millen. Joe hasbeen a licensed Physical Therapist formore than 30 years, and is knowledge-able and passionate about his approachto wellness. A graduate of OaklandUniversity’s Physical Therapy pro-

gram, he always knew that he wantedto make a difference in people’s lives.A dedicated father of six, he and hiswife Claudia wanted to open a clinicthat was based on looking at the bodyas a whole, and seeing how it workstogether as the sum of its parts, in-stead of piece by piece and symptomby symptom.

Also on staff at Impact Health isPhilip Ivanov, PT, DPT, who earned aDoctorate from the University of

South Florida in Physical Therapy.Philip served in the United StatesNavy for four years, where he earnedmany awards, before attending USF.He says, “While in the military, I waspart of Rescue swimmers for my shipand was the leading fire fighter for the#1 hose crew on our shipboard fire-fighting team. The duties on boardship were a large influence in my deci-sion to become involved in medicine.”He joined Impact Health because hebelieved in their approach, saying,“Practicing physical therapy by takingcare of the client first and then ad-dressing the dysfunction, rather thanjust treating the dysfunction, was avery interesting philosophy I cameacross at Impact Health. In my experi-ence, most therapists do not take thetime to look at the individual.”

The newest addition to the staff isRaymond Agostino, PT, DPT. Ray-mond came into this field after seeingwhat a difference it made in his grand-mother’s life after suffering a stroke. He said, “Her recovery is what in-spired me to try to help others regaintheir physical abilities. My grand-mother has since passed away, but shewould be very proud that I have beenable to accomplish my goal of earninga Doctor of Physical Therapy from

Florida Gulf Coast University. One ofmy major professional interests is golfperformance training and rehabilita-tion. As part of my studies, I became acertified Nike Golf NG360° Perform-ance Specialist. This certification hasallowed me to help golfers return togolf pain-free, improve performanceand have more fun while playing thesport they love.”

Impact Health enjoys helpingpeople of all ages regain their health, gain long-term wellness and evenachieve peak performance in their cho-sen field. From athletes who have hadinjuries to everyday people who livewith chronic pain, Impact Health

works on connecting the dots, andstrengthening your body so that it canwork the way in which it was de-signed.

Physical Therapy includes manualtherapy, massaging and stretching ofmuscles, working on movement, restoration of soft tissue, the buildingup and strengthening of muscles andjoints, and the overall communicationbetween the different muscles in thebody.

Additionally, Impact Health isnow offering K-Laser Therapy. K-Laser Therapy is a new, nonsurgical,drug-free pain option that helps pa-tients who suffer from back and neck

pain, nerve injuries, sprains and strains, sports injuries and more.

Many clients swear by K-LaserTherapy. One states, “The laser helpsfacilitate a quicker response for mybody to bounce back after I play a lotof golf. If I play 10 rounds of golf inPebble Beach in a week, I’d normallyneed three to four weeks of rehabilita-tion afterward. But the laser cuts thatrecovery time significantly – probablyby 50 percent. I love to play golf andwant to enjoy physical activity. Ongo-ing therapy – and now this laser –helps me maintain a rigorous, activelifestyle.”

Clients Feel The Positive Impact AtImpact Health!

What makes Impact Health com-pletely unique is their complete one-on-one focus. In traditional physicaltherapy approaches, clients are gener-ally seen in a gym environment, andclients are left to work on repetitiveexercises or put on machines while thetherapists work with other clients. Im-pact Health offers clients privaterooms, personalized treatment, and allthe tools you need to get you whereyou’d like to be, whether that’s backon your feet again, or in the best shapeof your life.

In a letter to Joe, Tom M. An-drews, M.D. wrote, “Joe, I wanted totake a moment to let you know howmuch I appreciate your impact on mylife. Your excellent skills in therapy andyour keen insight into physical com-plaints are key to keeping me healthyand able to complete my goals. Mysuccess in the Ironman is due to you.”

In 2014, the majority of doctorspolled only spent 13-16 minutes witheach client. After the pleasantries, nota lot of time is left for the examina-tion, questions and writing prescrip-tions. Healthcare is so regimented byinsurance codes and data, that evenwell meaning healthcare providers

have difficulty allotting more time toeach client. Impact Health was createdto break all those rules by puttingclients first and leaving the insurancecodes in the dust.

Joe explains, “Healthcare haschanged, and as an industry we be-came more focused on who paid andreferred than on who we were treat-ing. That has never worked for me. Ibelieve that we need to be responsibleto each other. You, as my client, aremy focus; not your insurance com-pany, not your referring doctor. I willcommunicate with them on your be-half, which is my professional responsi-bility. My approach with clients hasdeveloped over time. I realized I ammuch more successful when I ap-proach every client assessment lookingat the total body rather than any onepain or ailment.”

Gene, a client of Impact Health, said, “My son was referred to JoeMillen by a doctor because he was notrecovering from shoulder surgery aftera football injury. While rehabbing myson’s shoulder, Joe outlined a compre-hensive “whole body” conditioningprogram designed to make him a bet-ter player. My son’s shoulder is nowstronger than ever and he was singledout for his performance at a major col-lege camp. After watching how heworked with my son, I started a condi-tioning program with Joe. I noticedthat IH’s client base was full of doc-tors and their families! I realized he isthe doctors’ doctor.”

Impact Health’s main locationis at 180 Alternate 19 N., Ste. B.,in Palm Harbor. They also have a2nd location in Tampa at 2202 N.Westshore Blvd. at Corporate Cen-ter One in the International Plaza. Both locations operate by appoint-ment. Personal Touch Heats Up theKitchen With The Hottest NewTrends

If you are remodeling your home

for yourself or getting it ready to puton the market, you understand thepriority that the kitchen and bath-rooms take in a home’s value. Akitchen remodel can completelychange the look of a home! PersonalTouch Kitchens & Bathrooms is savvyin the latest trends when it comes tocolor, texture, stonework and more.

Cheryl updated me on the newesttrends – what is out, what’s in and

what people are asking for. She says,“Painted cabinets continue to be time-less with white and antique whitebeing the number one and twochoices throughout the country. Greyhas become very popular over the pastfive years and has really become thenew tan. People are choosing grey fora more simplistic, streamlined andmodern look. Clean and simplistic isin. Many people are choosing to add apop of grey to their kitchens, whetherit’s as an accent color or countertops;the color combines well with so manystyles.”

Whether you choose one area toaccent with grey, such as your islandcabinets, or you get brazen with fiftyshades of grey throughout the entirekitchen, you can’t go wrong with theclean, look of modern grey.

A popular new choice for coun-tertops is quartz, which has recentlybecome the number one choice due toits simplicity, easy maintenance andnon-porous surface that does not re-quire sealing. “Brands such as Cam-bria have developed beautifulgranite-looking materials that offermovement, texture and depth to akitchen,” says Cheryl. “Anotherbrand, Caesarstone, excels in a marblelook with a quartz material.”

Cheryl shared another way thatyou can update your kitchen. “It is

very on-trend to have a contrasting is-land paired with textured lookingpaint on the cabinets. Many people arechoosing to add multiple layers ofpaint over wood for an antiqued look, especially when they are choosing thecabinets for their kitchen islands. It isvery popular to choose an island coun-tertop that has contrasting coloredcabinets.”

One theme that never goes out ofstyle: Classic, clean and simple leadsthe way in choice for remodels. Moreand more people want a minimalistfeel with hidden storage to provideclean, simple spaces that are func-tional. Cheryl says, “Seventy percentof people who walk in want somethingsimple. They want their kitchens tolook pretty, be functional and have alook that will stand the test of time indesign.”

Personal Touch Kitchens & Bath-rooms has everything you need forkitchen and bathroom remodels. From the smallest of starter homes tofull-out custom kitchens, Cheryl andKim are a dream design team. “Wecan do as little or as much as needed,”says Cheryl. “We have many skilledcontractors we work with or we canrecommend ones and let the clientoversee the project. Tampa Rejuvenation - “Your Health Our Passion”By Matthew Selby

Let’s face it, getting older has thisawful little side effect of aging yourbody. As hormones deplete, our skinbegins to sag and wrinkle, our sexdrive declines, we gain unexplainedweight, we have sleep issues, and ourdrive for life lessens. We cannot con-trol time as it passes each day, but withadvancements in technology and med-ical research, we now can slow downthe negative effects of the agingprocess in a safe and very effective way.

Tampa Rejuvenation, with its clos-est of 4 clinics located at 13648 WestHillsborough Ave. in Tampa, separatesthemselves with their integrative ap-proach to medicine. The physicians atTampa Rejuvenation let their work andhappy customer testimonials speak forthemselves.

Patient Nancy H. writes, “TampaRejuvenation helped me lose a veryneeded 30 pounds! My primary doc-tor was very impressed that I am nowmuch healthier and no longer a dia-betic risk. The HCG diet is healthy, safe and fast. The staff is great! Theyare all knowledgeable, courteous andhelpful (the Doctor, the Nutritionist,

medical assistants, counselors, officeadministrators). They monitor every-thing from beginning to end and willhelp at any time. I have also nowlearned how to eat healthier. Betweenthis and the diet, I will be keeping theweight off. I feel so much better, healthier and confident. It was one ofthe best things I've done!”

The staff at Tampa Rejuvenation isdetail-oriented and patient-specific intheir treatment – it’s not cookie cuttermedicine. The science is out there; thetreatment is available; but finding theright physicians for you can make allthe difference in the world.

The physicians at Tampa Rejuve-nation are unique – they left the mod-ern tunnel-vision style of medicinebehind. They understand that manytimes conventional medicine is de-signed by “BIG-PHARMA“ to relievesymptoms and sometimes only masksthose symptoms to make them bear-able. I don’t know about you, but Isure don’t want to settle for just bear-able symptoms of anything.

At Tampa Rejuvenation thephysicians honed in their skills withonly one goal in mind – to fix theproblem, not hide it. While interview-

ing the founder of Tampa Rejuvena-tion, Brett Markowitz, the simplepremise of going to sleep each nightand feeling good about what his teamwas doing is clearly at the forefront ofhis business goals and morals. He andhis staff are passionate about their pa-tients and seeing improvements intheir health. It’s clearly somethingthey refuse to waiver from.

Since each patient is different, with their expertise in this field of in-tegrative medicine of anti-aging, thephysicians not only focus on the lab

work, but they listen to symptoms andfocus on their goals when designing acustomized treatment plan using bioidentical hormones and treatingweight issues.

The physicians at Tampa Rejuve-nation focus more on quality thanquantity; they want a patient commit-ted to their health; not a patient that isjust interested in taking a magic pill andhas unrealistic expectations – that’s afantasy. The reality is it has to be acomplete change in lifestyle. That’swhy the physicians at Tampa Rejuvena-

4-D Longevity PlanTampa Rejuvenation Wellness

Center’s physicians believe in what theycall a “4D Longevity” plan. The 4 D’sconsist of DIET, DAILY HOR-MONES, your unique DNA, andDETOX. If you follow this plan, you'regoing to be successful. It’s that easy.

The Diet is specially designed foreach patient individually based upontheir DNA. The physicians run bloodwork on the patient to determine whatkind of diet works best for their ge-netic makeup. It’s science at work for

you, and it really is incredible. It takesthe “fad” diets and the guessing out ofthe equation. You finally find out whatfoods you need to eat for your specificbody. You can even find out whatfoods to completely stay away fromdue to allergies and sensitivities youmay not even know you had. Thedaily hormone aspect of this plan issimple. You don’t need to take abunch of pills, injections or topicalmedications anymore. Your hormonetherapy is only once every 3-6 months(depending on whether you are maleor female) via bio-identical hormonepellets inserted into the fat just belowthe skin. It’s virtually painless andtakes only a few minutes.

What are the benefits ofHormone Therapy?

Nominated for hisvolunteer work with the IWork pro-gram at Idlewild Baptist Church inLutz, Jim Carow makes a difference inthe lives of others here in Tampa Bay!

Dr. Shirmo met with Jim Carowand his wife Mary to learn more aboutthe volunteer work they do and heshared the reason that he and Dr. El-dridge created the Tampa Bay MakingA Difference Award. “My wife and Iwanted to start a program where we

could give back for a worthwhilecause,” said Dr. Shirmo. “Dr. Eldridgesaid right away, ‘Why don’t we giveout an award to people in our com-munity who are making a difference inthe daily lives of others?’ We bothloved the idea!”

Dr. Eldridge and Dr. Shirmogrew up in Tampa Bay, fell in love inTampa Bay, went away to earn medicaldegrees together and then came backto the area to open a family medicalpractice and raise their own family. They look for ways to promote goodin the community they love andthough it has been a busy time for thehusband-and-wife team – Dr. Eldridgejust gave birth to their third daughterin August and Dr. Shirmo volunteersas one of the team physicians for hisalma mater Jesuit High School – theystill found a way to honor others whoare making a difference with TrinityFamily Physicians’ Tampa Bay MakingA Difference Award.

There were some exceptionalnominees and it wasn’t an easy deci-sion for Trinity Family Physicians butthey kept coming back to one email

with a nomi-nee whoseemed to ex-emplify every-thing that theTampa BayMaking A Dif-ference Awardis meant torepresent.

ing to find the best career fit for eachindividual. Without IWork and Jim,there would be more hopeless peopleunemployed in our community, that’swhy he should win your next award.”

Jim Carow Makes ADifference in Tampa Bay!

Jim Carow makes a lasting dif-ference in the lives of others byteaching them invaluable job-seekingskills, but he is humble about his in-volvement with Idlewild BaptistChurch’s IWork program, saying, “Idon’t do this alone! We have phe-nomenal volunteers who have beenhelping from day one.”

The IWork program was startedmore than six years ago. One of thepastors came to Jim, who had a longcareer in recruiting for the healthcareindustry, and asked him to help start aprogram that would focus on helpingpeople who were actively seeking ajob. While IWork does not find jobsfor people, it does offer fellowshipalong with a workshop that teachesnetworking and interviewing skills.Pastor Phillip Hanes said of JimCarow, “He is a fine man and there isa great team of volunteers who workwith him. We are very thankful for thisprogram, which hosts 25 to 60 peopleevery Monday night.”

Jim can’t say enough about the

volunteers (some first came to thegroup seeking help) who put somuch heart into the IWork programthat it has morphed into much morethan a workshop. It is fellowship andcaring. “When we had our first meet-ing, we thought it would be aboutstrategy, networking, Linked In…andwe do all that, but it is so muchmore. The methods we teach workat all levels. We have all kinds of peo-ple from physicians to 19-year-oldswanting to find summer jobs. We justgive people hope.”

He recalls the early planning ofIWork with a laugh, “When they saidwe have to feed people, I said, ‘Do wereally have to? Does every Baptistfunction have to include feeding peo-ple? Can’t we just teach them?’ Butthey were right. I realized early onthat for some, this was their only mealof the day. We’ve got stories that willmelt your heart and we’ve got storiesthat will send you to the moon.”

The IWork program has built in acouple of traditions. Every year theyhave an “Office Party” ChristmasParty and put Publix gift cards underthe tree. Jim recalls one young womanwho had lost her car and was losingher house; she was depressed and al-most didn’t come to IWork’s officeparty when she got the voicemail butdecided to ride her bike. Jim recalled,

“She burst into tears upon openingher card and finding that she had $25for food. She said, ‘This will last me aweek!’ And then a man walked over toher and handed her his Publix giftcard.” Remarkable!

Another tradition happenedpurely by accident. Sharon had beenlooking for a job for two years whenshe decided to go to IWork on Mon-day nights. After a couple of meetings, she got a job and to celebrate, boughta cake with her first paycheck andbrought it in to share with the group.Someone brand new to the group thatnight got a job the same week andthought it was what everyone did sohe showed up with a cake the nextweek. A tradition of celebration wasborn, and hope carries on at IWork.

Dr. Shirmo asked Jim Carow ifthere was anything he’d like to seehappen from the exposure of winningthe Tampa Bay Making A DifferenceAward. His answer was much thesame as Pastor Hanes – that otherchurches and organizations will offerthe same types of support for thosesincerely seeking gainful employment.Jim pointed out that there are otherchurches in the area that have similarprograms. Log on to Idlewild.org formore information about the IWorkprogram at Idlewild Baptist Church.

come here to get something done andget it done well!”

Dr. Landon says, “Landon PlasticSurgery is very comprehensive and it isimportant for people to know, thateverything we do, we do a lot of; wedo procedures multiple times a weekin every category. We handle about700 cases a year.”

I can tell you, from my own per-sonal experience, that Dr. Landon andhis staff truly are amazing. From dayone, his staff went above and beyondto provide me with a personalized ex-perience and did a great job of makingme feel comfortable and relaxed. From my first consultation, where thestaff was very thorough and actuallylistened to what I had to say, to thenight of the operation where Dr. Lan-don called me at home to see how Iwas doing, to the months followingthe operation, where Dr. Landon andhis staff did an excellent job makingsure everything progressed and healedright, Landon Plastic Surgery reallyhas set the bar with how patientsshould be treated.

“We do take care of our patientsand I do think we offer that extra level

of service,” says Cheryl. “I almostthink we nurture patients. We have anamazing, amazing staff. They are alltruly wonderful. We really care aboutour patients and our patients knowthat. They almost feel part a part ofthe family.”

World-Class Technology Using the newest, most innova-

tive technology, Dr. Landon’s 3Dbreast imaging machine allows pa-tients to see exactly what their im-plants are going to look like before thesurgery, and gives them the opportu-nity to “try out” different sizes to seewhat will look best on their body andwhat size will give them the desiredoutcome that they hope to achieve.

Dr. Landon says, “We offer pa-tients the ability to take a virtual roadtrip with different size implants to seehow the implants are going to look ontheir body. This has really done a greatjob of alleviating the anxiety.”

The newest in patient-centeredadvancements, Landon Plastic Sur-gery has recently introduced TouchMD to their practice. Interactive soft-ware for patient education, TouchMD, as like the 3D breast-imagingmachine, gives patients the opportu-nity to experience the closest thingthey can to having surgery, before the

actual surgery. By uploading a pictureof the patient’s target area to the soft-ware, Dr. Landon is able to show hispatients where the incisions are goingto be made, as well as the projectedoutcome as to what that area willlook like post-surgery.

“This gives patients a sense of fa-miliarity, making them feel comfort-able about their decision,” says Dr.Landon. “It is a great teaching tool, and my patients end up leaving with asolid education of what we hope toaccomplish surgically, as well as anenhanced piece of mind in knowingthey know what to expect before, during and after the surgery; helpingtheir decision to choose our office aneasy one.”

When asked his favorite partabout what he does, Dr. Landonreplied, “Being able to take bodyimages that people find distasteful oraging and give them a positive bodyimage change. People have a widerange of expectations and if you arereally going to be successful you haveto listen to your patients and deliverwhat they want. I think that is whatreally sets us apart. I look at every per-son that comes in here as family andgive them the same treatment as Iwould if it were my mother or mydaughter.”
