Let’s face it, buying a car isn’tusually on everyone’s favorite to-dolist! Between choosing the right makeand model for your lifestyle, and hag-gling for the right price, it can be adaunting experience at best, so hereare some handy tips.

First of all, if you’re looking for agreat deal, summer time is the perfecttime to shop! For one, the next gener-ation of cars is generally released todealerships during the fall months ofthe previous year, which means, deal-erships are extra motivated to sell theirbrand new 2014 inventory right nowto make room for the new 2015 mod-els! That means that you can savemoney if you’re willing to buy the cur-rent model year, versus the newestmodel year. The best part? It’s still abrand new car with a full warranty, butit’s a lot easier on your wallet.

Doing Research and Taking yourTime Can Save $$$!

To me, car dealerships are beauti-ful places. The lights, the beautiful col-ors, the smell of leather and tires. Iknow, maybe I’m showing my MotorCity roots, but the truth is, the wholedealership experience is meant tocharm and entice you-just like themall! That’s why they often call dealer-ships automalls!

That said, if you walk into a deal-ership and you’re not sure what youwant, they’ll be happy to guide you inthe direction of their choice, and haveyou into financing before you evenknow what’s happening to you! Don’tlet that happen, and don’t think it

won’t happen to you! Every day peo-ple buy brand new cars that weren’tthe color they wanted, the model theywanted or the price that they wantedto spend, all because they were in ahurry to buy. Often it’s because theyfelt pressured that they’d lose the dealthat was being offered, or becausethey just wanted to get it over with.Neither of those are good reasons tomake a rash decision on something soimportant!

Here’s the truth: The deal theyare offering you is not a one-time-onlyspecial. If they won’t give you thatdeal tomorrow, someone else will. Ifyou are buying a new car and theydon’t have the color of your choice, ormore importantly, the specific modelof your choice on the lot, don’t settle.Dealerships can check other dealer-ships, and can usually bring in themodel, color, and car of your choicewithin a couple of days.

The key to buying a car is doingyour homework, which means takingyour time to shop around.

Go online and check out websitesthat rate cars like kbb.com, Ed-munds.com and others that will illus-trate crash safety ratings, pricingsuggestions, and let you compare be-tween makes and models right thereonline. While they’re not always spot-on, they’re a good place to start, andwill help you find the right car withthe right kind of features. (Don’t for-get to look at the value of your trade!Your trade is a huge part of theprocess, but we’ll get to that later.)

For example, perhaps you’d like asmall SUV or Crossover that has rearAC vents. This may be harder to find

than you think! Onceyou’ve narrowed yourlist down a little, you canlook at features like theseonline to help you nar-row your list further.

Once you have anidea of what you’d like,go directly to the na-tional dealer website! There you can “tour”the car right there on-line, view the features in-side and out, and learn about anyspecial promotions that the carmakeris currently offering. Often, they willask for your zip code, and redirect youto the dealerships closest to you! Thisis fantastic, because from the localdealership websites, you can oftenview their inventory right from home!

If you have narrowed your searchdown to a specific make and model,go take a test drive! In fact, go take afew! There are many, many dealershipsin our area-giving the buyer the ad-vantage. For example, you may have a

better experience test driving the samecar at one dealership or the other, andit may make a decision on where youdecide to purchase. One dealershipmay be more motivated than theother! The key is to take your timeand not to buy right away! Takingyour time can save you thousands ofdollars!

How much time? I say twoweeks. Yes, two weeks! That shouldgive you enough time to do your re-search online, visit some dealerships, meet some sales people, feel confidenton what the promotions are, have

Don’t get Razzle-Dazzled When Buying a New Car!Here are some Handy Tips!

some offers on the table and to makean educated decision.

Your Best Haggling Tool Is TheCar You Trade!

The best haggling tool you haveis your trade. While it’s nice to make itabsolutely gorgeous by cleaning, scrubbing and waxing, the true valueof your car is what they can get for itat auction, and no amount of scrub-bing is going to change that price. So,while clean and well-kept is good, saveyour back for washing your new car inthe driveway.

So, there’s a car you like on thelot-it’s the one, you can feel it. Thenext step is to know the value of yourtrade. Knowing the value of your tradeis really important, so make sure thatyou do some research on what yourcar is currently worth. Print out whatthe different websites say your car isworth, and in different conditions, as

“Excellent” vs. “Good” conditionis a matter of opinion. These are justreference numbers of course, but theycan give you an idea. Most of thetime, dealerships are using these sametools on their end as well. It’s a goodstarting point!

By now, you should know whatyou’d like to get for your trade, and

what you’d like to pay for the new car. Here comes the negotiating. They al-ways ask, “How much do you want topay per month?” Be ready for thisquestion very early on in the process,in fact, sometimes they ask you theminute they meet you! This may be aneasy way to get to a middle ground, but it’s also a way for them to avoidhaggling with you. For example, if yousay you want to pay $300 per month, they can have you in the financingchair at that number in no time, butyou may pay for it in financingcharges, as they may have you payingthat monthly price for a year or twolonger than you planned.

Don’t go starting at yourmonthly budget, instead, have themgive you their best price on your trade, and then make sure they have or canget the make and model that you’dlike to purchase before you go any fur-ther.

Don’t Pay Sticker! The car-buying world is one of

the few realms where haggling is notonly offered, it’s expected!

So, don’t pay sticker! Sometimes,if you want a very specific, hard-to-find make and model, there can be anexception to the rule, but those are

exceptions. Make sure you read theentire sticker carefully and haggleabout things that look like add-ons toyou. If they look like add-ons, theyusually are! Often, you can read a spe-cific car’s sticker right from the localdealership’s website! Print it out, haveit in your hand and make sure you un-derstand the many features includedand not included. Why? It’s virtuallyimpossible to return a car once thetitle and tag have been transferred!

Once you’re ready and you’vedriven and inspected the exact car thatyou’re entering into a possible agree-ment with, let them give you an offer. This is finally the time to talk monthlypayments, bank rates, credit scores andthe like. Let them give you an offer.Consider it, but even if it’s good, walkaway. This eliminates the feeling ofpressure that so many people dislikeabout the experience. You don’t haveto be rude about it! Just let themknow that you’re still shoppingaround! And do! Shop the same car atthe other side of town! When it comesto service, you can have your car serv-iced at any major brand’s dealership, and they will honor your warranty.Often you can save more money thisway, or find that one dealership is will-ing to throw in something extra thatappeals to you, like free oil changes! You don’t have to walk away forever, just a day or two! Even an afternoon!Sometimes, the sales rep will even callyou and let you know that manage-ment has approved a lower price toget you back in the door.

Here’s another piece of advice, buy at the end of the month! (Thatmeans you start the process at least bythe 15th managers tend to be morelikely to help move a car off the lot, that’s lingo for sell it for less, on the30th or the 29th.

Lastly, be nice! Remember, carsalesmen and women have kind of abad rap. Sometimes, maybe, it’s de-served, but the truth is, if you want astress-free experience, be nice! As longas you’ve done your homework andare feeling in control of your part ofthe process, and you feel comfortabletaking your time and walking awayuntil you’re completely satisfied, there’s no reason to come in all hotand heavy! In fact, buying a car can ac-tually be a lot of fun!

Most dealerships have come ofage, and are extremely customer serv-ice oriented. They want to earn yourbusiness, and they want you to feelcomfortable throughout the entireprocess!

Quick Tips!1. Do your homework! Car deal-

erships have monthly goals and quotasto meet

2. Shop around!3. Take your time!4. Drive and inspect the exact car

you’re looking to purchase beforesigning any paperwork.

5. Buy at the end of the month!6. Be nice and enjoy the experi-

ence! Buying a new car can be fun!

It is a wonderfulway for the students to see how themusic they are making can entertainand enrich people’s lives.”

Whatever the instrument,Westchase Music School’s teachers canhelp your child master it. Voice, piano, guitar, violin, flute, oboe, drums – theexperienced staff at Westchase MusicSchool can match your child to theteacher who will help his or her talentsflourish. “We match students up witha teacher that we think will be a goodfit with their personality,” saysWestchase Music School staff memberNicole Aaronson. “We talk to the par-ents about the type of teacher theyand their child prefer and what genre

of music the child is interested in. Wehelp match personalities so our stu-dents are even more successful in theirmusic lessons. Every lesson includes30 minutes of individual instructionand 15 minutes in the music technol-ogy lab. Our teachers really focus onthe student and let them choose thesongs and style of music they are inter-ested in. It makes the lessons fun forthe children and gives them a bettersuccess rate.”

All of the teachers at WestchaseMusic School are hand picked byRick’s wife and co-owner Helen. “Be-fore we moved to Westchase, we hadopened a very successful music schoolin Charlotte, North Carolina,” saysRick. “Helen knows the questions toask to find the best teachers. All of ourteachers have degrees in music; manyof them have their masters. Somework in the schools or are retired fromteaching. When hiring teachers, wewant to make sure that they can com-municate with the students and thatthey know how to teach. Someonemay be a wonderful musician but thatdoes not necessarily mean they will bea great teacher.”

Just pic-ture yourself waking up to that amaz-ing view, drinking your morningcoffee as you sit back in the rockingchair taking in the serenity of the lakeas the fog slowly rolls off the top ofthe water. The feeling is almost sur-real, knowing you are amongst naturein its truest form, something un-touched by man.

Bear Lair CabinFor those with a smaller group,

the second one bedroom cabin is theperfect fit, and sleeps four comfort-ably. Located right down the roadfrom the Sleepy Bear’s Dream, theBear Lair too sits right on the lake, with a back porch that overlooks theserene body of water and pristine na-ture. Built a few years ago, this cabin isjust as beautiful and showcases thesame craftsmanship and attention todetail as its sister cabin next door.

As their names imply, these cabins

are all about bears- from wood carv-ings in the pillars to the furniture, tofigures and decorations that can befound throughout. I think Fred andJanice were very clever in namingthese cabins as you truly feel like abear in hibernation from the rest ofthe world. Away from your hecticschedule and work, for once can letyour mind be at ease and not have to

worry about the demands of your life. As amazing as the cabins are on

the inside, if you love nature than youare going to have to walk outside andexplore the many sights that Leecounty Kentucky has to offer. And thebest part is, if you are looking to dosome exploring, you don’t even have toleave the property. With numerous hik-ing trails and walking paths, as well ascliffs, geological formations and manyother unique sights, you can surely getyour fix of nature on this 32 acre re-treat. They also have a boat so you cantake a trip around the lake for a differ-ent perspective; or possibly throw out aline to catch some catfish for lunch. Ohyeah, and did I mention – right outsidethe cabin doors are numerous 50 mil-lion year old caves, one of which boastscave carvings that date back to what ar-chaeologists believe to be over 8,000years old. In fact if you are an adven-ture seeker and consider yourself to bethe “outdoorsy” type you even havethe option of staying in one of thecaves overnight. “How would you liketo stay in a 50 million year old hotel,”jokes Fred, “we have that!”

“This is an amazing cabin and

place to vacation,” writes one guest.“It was very relaxing and quiet. Thewoods, trails, cliffs and caves andwildlife are amazing to experience. Mytwo eleven year olds had a blast on thefishing boats this weekend. The cabinwas well-equipped with everything weneeded. We loved playing with thesweet dogs too. I’ve stayed at severalcabins throughout Tennessee andKentucky and this is by far my favorite. We will definitely be back. Thanks forthe memories!”

On our visit, my husband and Iwere very fortunate, as Fred gave us a

grand tour of the property, showing usthe magnificent rock formations andcaves. They truly are an impressivesight and as you gaze up in wonder-ment at these breathtaking geologicalformations that date back over 50 mil-lion years old it really does put yourlife into perspective. Each nook andcranny and uniquely formed layer tellsa story of days past and one can onlyimagine everything these rocks havebeen through in their life span.

With all the activities that can befound by merely stepping out thecabin doors, even more can be found

in the surrounding area, from rockclimbing the magnificent cliffs to hik-ing the trails in the state parks, to fish-ing and canoeing the waterways; theyeven have zip lining only a few milesaway. In fact, you might not be awareof this, but Lee county Kentucky isranked among the best rock climbingdestinations in the world. “Peopletravel from all over the world to rockclimb here,” says Janice. When youvisit I also recommend you visit theRed River Gorge – one of Kentucky’sfamous sights. A natural bridge thatoverlooks a steep 100 foot + drop off,

the Red River Gorge really is a mag-nificent sight.

Bear Track Lake Adventures truly isa nature lover’s dream and it is with aheavy head that I leave here today andreturn to reality; although I seek com-fort in knowing I will once again returnto this beautiful oasis and revisit themany amazing memories I have madeon this wonderful trip. Plastic surgery in 2014 is nothingless than amazing! The technologicaland surgical advances in the field en-able skilled surgeons to turn back theclock on the image in the mirror likenever before. As a 47-year-old with

two adult children and a teen,I love my body because it isstrong and it has carried lifeand carried me through sev-eral necessary surgeries – butstill, when I look in the mir-ror, I take a finger and lift mybrow, and wow, there is thatyouthful eye from ten yearsago! Let’s face it, it isn’t justthe brow and eyelids that startdrooping as we age, so isn’t itgreat to know that we haveoptions?

The decision to haveplastic surgery is very personal– after all you are altering yourappearance – so you want aplastic surgeon who is skilledand trained in the latest tech-

niques, who will really listen to yourdesires, who will take a conservativeapproach for a natural result, and onewho will treat you like royalty. If youare considering plastic surgery andwant the very best for yourself, please

Listening is soimportant because sometimes a littlechange can shift the way they seethemselves and change their wholeperspective.”

His patients love his manner andthe excellent results! Alison G., a fit-ness professional who chose to use Dr.Villanustre, says, “When I met withDr. Villanustre, he was totally focusedon my needs. After suggestions from Tyson andour fabulous server Maha, on our pastvisit, my husband and I shared a fewdifferent items, starting with theroasted Veggie Flatbread. As much asI love my meat, this flatbread wasamazing, and made up for the lack ofmeat in so many ways; starting withthe creamy goat cheese crumbled ontop! Consisting of a doughy, crispycrust loaded with toppings, includingjuicy chunks of roasted tomatoes, sweet fire-roasted peppers, asparagusand grilled Portobello mushrooms andtopped with a layer of cheese, this flat-bread is a Mecca of flavor! Or maybethe Oldsmar Flatbread, featuring rotis-serie chicken, nueske bacon, caramelized onions, wild mushrooms, mozzarella and fresh herbs is moreyour style!

If you are looking for a light, fresh app to enjoy alongside your fa-vorite libation, the Seared Ahi TunaNapoleon is the way to go! Layeredatop crispy wontons, the Napoleonshowcased exquisitely prepared tunawith a tasty combination of avocado, scallions, and pickled ginger toppedwith a sweet balsamic reduction. Inthe mood for something different? They offer many other great appetizerand small plate options including, twin

filet mignon k-bobs, parmesan trufflefries and spicy honey garlic wings, toname a few.

Looking towards the middle ofthe menu you will find a nice selectionof dinner entrees, including their rotis-serie chicken. A staple item usedthroughout the menu in numerousdifferent preparations, their famousrotisserie chicken, a whole half chickenserved over a bed of their creamy po-tatoes and swimming in juice andbroth, is sure to satisfy any hunger!Crispy on the outside and juicy on theinside, this seasoned chicken is loadedwith flavor and tastes great dipped inthe yummy potatoes.

If you love burgers, than you haveto try their Ybor Burger, a premiumAngus patty topped with guava jelly, melted Gruyere cheese, potato sticks, nueske bacon and their secret tavernsauce. “This burger is my favorite,”says Maha. “I didn’t know if I’d like itat first – I’ve never heard of jelly on aburger before – but the sweet jelly, combined with the smoky bacon, crunchy potato sticks and sharpness ofthe cheese provides a taste that is likenone other.”

One thing is for sure, no matterwhat you order on the menu, excep-tional taste and a remarkable presenta-tion is always a guarantee!

Flipping the menu over to revealthe drinks, there is no shortage of craftyconcoctions, from wines, champagne

mouth-watering food temptations, onething is for certain – you have arrived atright place for a great time!

Boasting some of the very bestCaribbean cuisine on this side of theAtlantic, the menu at Rumba certainlydepicts the diverse island cultures andshowcases a little bit of everything. From fresh fish, and deliciouslysmoked poultry, beef and pork, tosandwiches, salads and finger foods, whether you want something from thesea or the land, the chefs at Rumbawill serve up something sure to tanta-

lize your taste buds. Chef SeanReynolds says, “Rumba Island Grillhas the best food and cheapest pricesin the area, and all it takes is one biteor sip to be hooked!”

On our previous visit, my hus-band and I decided to try a few of theoptions recommended to us by chefSean, starting with the tuna nachosand jerk chicken wings. As we waitedin anticipation for our appetizers to ar-rive our server Traci brought us someof their homemade corn breadmuffins, which were a great snack tomunch on.

The perfect finger food for shar-ing, the tuna nachos are fabulouslylight and refreshing. Layered with avo-cado, generous pieces of sesame en-crusted tuna and a jalapeño on top,the crunchiness of the nacho bottomwas a great complement to the tunaand the added herbs and spices com-bined for a really refreshing taste.

On the other side of the spec-trum we tried the jerk chicken wings, which we are so glad we ordered!Dusted with a delicious coating ofseasoning the amazingly crispy skinof the jerk chicken wings had just theright amount of spice and whendipped into their yummy side sauces– cranberry bbq and mango bbq –the taste was exceptional.

While waiting for our entrees,Traci brought over a couple of their fi-esta house salads, which come includedwith their entrees. A colorful work ofart, the fiesta salad came loaded withfresh mango salsa, and was garnishedwith fresh papaya – yum!

If you love seafood, than you aregoing to adore their selection of freshseafood, including the Herb En-crusted Mahi Mahi. Served in a lemoncaper sauce, the herb crust perfectlycomplemented the creamy sauce andthe fresh capers came together withthe seasoned fish for a taste that wasout of this world. Served with twosides – I chose the Jamaican greensand sautéed veggies – this meal prepa-ration was fabulous!

If you are more of a land lover, than you will be equally as happywith their selection of poultry, beefand pork and if you are feeling a bithungry I suggest you try their Barba-dos Ribs. Doused in a mango BBQsauce, the tender, juicy ribs basicallyfell off the bones and the sweet BBQsauce provided a remarkable contrastto the smoky flavor of the ribs. Forour sides we chose their Islandcoleslaw and coconut rice – both ofwhich were really tasty!

Needless to say, after this amazingmeal we did not leave hungry, and we

still had plenty of leftovers to takehome for later! “We have very gener-ous portion sizes,” says Sean. “I haveever heard of anybody complainingthat they are still hungry after eatinghere.” Served until 5:45 p.m., Rumbaalso has a very reasonable Early birdmenu p.m. and offers a variety of op-tions ranging from $6 to $11.
