Equipment lists for 2016To assist parents with planning we have uploaded the equipment lists for the various grades to the school website. The lists can be found in the NOTES tab. Please note – 2016 School Accounts will be available for payment from Monday, 18th January. If you have any difficulties with paying the School Account please contact the school office or myself. All contact will be treated confidentially.

Music Program for 2016This year we employed two art teachers to work with students and teachers as part of the schools enrichment plan. The art program was introduced to enhance the student’s skills and provide an opportunity for students who aren’t academic or sporting to shine. The culmination of the program was the wonderful Art Show that most parents attended. Most disappointedly a number of parents and carers did not pay for the program despite the fact that their children took part in the lessons and used the material provided as part of the initiative. Unfortunately there was over $2500 in unpaid contribution in 2015.

In 2016, as part of the Creative Arts enrichment plan the school will be focussing on Music. During Term 1 students from Years 3 - 6 will take part in the program and we will be employing an additional teacher. Kindergarten – Year 2 will undertake the program in Term 2. At the end of each term the students will put on a performance for their parents and carers.

Money for the program will need to be paid by the end of Week 2, Term 1 for Years 3 - 6 students and the end of Week 2, Term 2 for Kindergarten – Year 2 students.

If money has not been received then the students will be withdrawn from the program and go to another class to do other school work and will not partake in the end-of-term performances.

Student achievementCongratulations to Charlie S (6P), Maddie S (5/6R) and Jessie S (2/3ST). The girls achieved credit results in their recent AMEB piano for leisure exams with grades 5, 3 & 1 respectively. Well done girls on a fantastic result!

Carols nightI would like to thank everyone who turned up for the recent P&C Carols Night. There was a real sense of community on the night and a fantastic way to wind down the term. For those who missed the night there are pictures on the school website.

Wishing you a safe and restful breakOn behalf of the staff at Elanora Heights Public School I would like to wish everyone a safe and relaxing festive season. Spend time with your friends and family and enjoy the warmth and sunshine. School, for students, finishes on Wednesday, 16th December with our special assembly at 1:45pm. School for Years 1 - 6 students commences on Thursday, 28th January. Kindergarten students start on Tuesday, 2nd February.

Best Wishes for the Festive Season.

... 1D MAKING GINGERBREAD HOUSESThe very talented Mrs La Ganza dropped in to 1D last week, having baked all the ingredients to make gingerbread houses, brought all the icing to stick them together, and the sweets to decorate them with. The students of 1D listened very carefully, as did Mrs Reeks, to Mrs La Ganza’s helpful instructions. It was a lot of fun to watch, and do!

We discovered there may be some prospective pastry chefs in our midst - their creations were fantastic.

Thank you Mrs La Ganza for taking time out of your busy day to spend with 1D - the looks on the students’ faces says it all - JOY!

Y... Season’s Greetings

Yes, yes, I know, it’s an old chestnut, “it takes a village to raise a child”, none more so than the village of EHPS. The village has some truly wonderful people and as the year draws to a close it’s high time to thank you.

Each morning we despatch our children down the bush track and into the care of the teachers. The teachers have an enormous, extraordinary and diverse responsibility and the results of their exertions are reflected on an everyday basis through the high values and achievements of our children. Thank you for your dedication, passion, professionalism, enthusiasm, expertise and the special magic you weave that makes EHPS a special school indeed. Our children are in a very fine set of hands.

Thank you to Mr Gillespie and Mrs Lomas for your support of the P&C and its activities. And thank you to the Assistant Principals who often stop for a chat and provide wise counsel. And in respect of wise counsel, too much is never enough.

The school would grind to a halt without the generous and smiling support of the admin team. They’ve told me this themselves and who am I to argue? To our national living treasures, Margi and Louise, Kay and Nicole, and Andrew; thank you for your contribution to P&C events and programs, you have made a burden not only lighter but most enjoyable. A special thank you is also in order to Ivana who celebrated 20 years of safely crossing our children at the pedestrian crossings; she must deserve a gold watch by now.

We all benefit from the contribution of many wonderful parents who support the school’s students in so many ways. Thank you to the scores of parents who assist with reading groups, the 2 dozen or so who support the Stellar program, parents who assist in the library, class parents, helpers at P&C and school events, attendees at P&C meetings and, what appears to be a small army, parents who volunteer in the canteen (and thanks to Iolanda and her team for a seamless transition in the canteen this year). And if you contribute and have flown under our radar, thank you too!

A massively huge thank you to all the parents who made a voluntary contribution to the P&C this year, a record amount surely to gain new heights (pun intended) in 2016! Your contribution makes a material difference to the lives of all the school’s students and without this contribution we would all be the poorer.

We all thank the P&C Sub-committees; Canteen, Uniform Shop, Social and Music. These committees do the heavy lifting of the P&C; day in, day out. Their efforts are herculean and we appreciate everything you do to support and enrich the lives of our children. And special thanks to Lou England who has taken a well-deserved break after 5 years as Canteen Convenor. Methinks, and we hope, we have not seen the last of you.

‘Tis also a time of farewells. To the families who leave us this year we wish you the very best for the next stage of your journey. And to the students who leave us this year we wish you every success.

I thank my fellow Committee members, old and new, for your support of, and dedication to, community. Our committee looks forward to representing the school community with vigour and application. We relish the challenges and opportunities ahead and have some new initiatives for 2016: watch this space!

On behalf of the P&C I wish everyone a safe, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. To new parents and those returning, we look forward to your company next year.

S... YEAR 6 CAMP.....|.....CONNOR S (6P)

The Great Aussie Bush Camp The entire Year 6 was very excited on Wednesday because they were about to go on their Great Aussie Bush Camp! The day started off great, on the ferry from Palm Beach to Ettalong. We then got off the ferry and got on the bus to Kincumber, where the Great Aussie Bush Camp is.

We had lunch and got sorted into our rooms (Girls in cabins 1-5, Boys in cabins 6-9).

We were then put into three groups. Group 1 led by Brad, Group 2 led by Cameron and Group 3 led by Ondina. All three instructors were very supportive and encouraging.

The activities we did were Tree Climbing, Canoeing, Raft Building, Lost Island, The Big Swing, High Ropes, Abseiling and Archery. Each activity we did involved teamwork.

For the night activities, we did two different things for both nights. One night we did games that needed music. On the second night we did a Commando Spot Lighting course, where you needed to rescue hostages held by….. Ms Pitt, Mr Reid and Ms Reddan! Despite the students’ effort, the teachers won!

So, as you can tell, it was an awesome camp. But on Friday it was time to go home. I am sure that Year 6 2016 will really enjoy the Great Aussie Bush Camp!
