PUBLIC SPEAKING FINALS On Wednesday our public speaking finalists represented EHPS at the local finals of the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition, demonstrating courage and confidence. Their speeches were engaging and entertaining and thoroughly enjoyable to listen to.

Congratulations to Rylie P, Millie E, Scarlett H and Jessica K who was also presented with a Highly Commended Certificate!

We are terribly proud of our public speaking finalists.

... HOLIDAY PROJECTS AROUND SCHOOLDuring these school holidays many projects are being undertaken around the school:

The car park fence parallel to the Year 1 classrooms will be replaced with safety fencing.

The Bush Track will be completed with a new bridge being built over the pebble creek.

The ovals are being aerated by aerating machines.

Concreting will be done between the stairs and demountables leading to the top oval.

The curtains in the hall are being cleaned.

As a conquence of all this work being done and in the interest of safety, our school WILL NOT be open (as part of the Share our Space Program) for use during these school holidays. Please DO NOT allow your children to play within the school grounds during the holidays as there will be several workmen on site and various machinery in operation.

... SYDNEY NORTH DANCE FESTIVAL The Stage 2, Senior Boys and Senior Girls Dance groups have all been busy representing the school at the annual Sydney North Dance Festival and have performed in multiple shows throughout the last two weeks.

The groups have worked hard in Terms 1 and 2 during recess and lunch to learn and perfect their dances.

The Stage 2 group blew the audience away with their jazz and hip hop style piece, as characters from the musical ‘Annie’. The Boys group took us on a surfing journey at the beach and the Senior Girls did an amazing job with their contemporary piece titled ‘Closing Time’.

We are very proud of all our students who have taken part in the Sydney North dance program and are grateful to our dance teachers, Mr Tier, Mrs Evans-Bullock and Miss Charlotte Reddan. Another successful, happy and enjoyable year of Sydney North Dance at Elanora!

GARDEN CLUB Our Elanora Garden Club has been hard at work watering, weeding and harvesting fresh produce from our garden. Keep an eye out for some of this produce for sale at the front desk next term. There will be delicious herbs such as parsley, basil, thyme, sage and mint and you might be lucky and find tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants, spinach and capsicum to add to your dinners!

Looking forward to another term working with our garden team!

Mr Tier, Mrs Evans-Bullock and Miss Charlotte Reddan.

A big thank you to our conductors for all the effort and enthusiasm they bring to our program each week.

From Week 1 in Term 3 all students in K-6 are invited to participate in the Premier’s Sporting Challenge. Elanora Heights have participated in this program for a number of years, earning valuable sporting equipment for our school.

During the 10 week challenge, students participate in a broad range of sports and recreational pursuits to develop their understanding of the importance of sport and physical activity. Activities may include time spent in various sports during lunchtime, in-school sport programs, class time, before or after school and on weekends. Any daily physical activity which is moderate to vigorous in intensity can be accrued. The students record and track their physical activity as they aim to be more active, more often.

Award Daily Activity TimeBronze: 30 minutes per daySilver: 45 minutes per dayGold: 60 minutes per dayDiamond: 80 minutes per day

K-2 students do not receive log books for record keeping. Their participation will be tracked each week in class on the e-Wall chart, by Year 6 House Captains, in conjunction with class teachers. This provides a visual record of weekly physical activity and an opportunity to discuss with students the benefits of being active daily and establishing healthy habits. K-2 students receive a Gold award at the end of the Challenge.
