Providing Personalised Care and Support in South Lakes and Barrow
General Vacancies Firefi ghter recruitment drive – South Lakes“Are you fl exible, motivated and interested in earning up to £6,000 a year working in your local community?” That’s the question Cumbria County Council’s Fire and Rescue Service is asking as part of its new drive to recruit 33 on-call fi refi ghters for 15 of its stations.
The service is looking for new fi refi ghters to join the teams at Kendal, Kirkby Lonsdale, Milnthorpe and Staveley fi re stations. To be in with a chance of getting the job potential recruits must be able to attend a two-hour training session at the station each week and be able to get to the station within fi ve minutes to attend emergency calls, either from home or work.
The service is looking for males and females from all different backgrounds, who are fi t and healthy, up for a challenge and prepared to commit to the role.
These are not volunteer roles. The pay scales for an on-call fi refi ghter are:
• A retainer of £2,115 – £2,821 dependant on the cover provided • An hourly rate of £12.88 when competent in your role • An on-call fi refi ghter can earn up to around £6,000 a year
To apply people will need to complete an application form; carry out a number of tests which are recognised nationally, have an interview and then have a medical check.
Station Manager Will Richardson from Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service says: “This is an exciting and challenging opportunity for individuals to provide a professional service to their local community. A number of open days have been programmed to assist with this process which will give an overview of what is required to become a professional On Call Firefi ghter and answer any questions you may have, remove any concerns and support you with your application where possible.”
