He could still be obstreperous, but perhaps less so in the months that lay ahead.. We had a marvelous, compassionate vet in Dr. Paul Molnar and his colleague Dr. Becky Chan who, over the next three years treated him for his ailments with utmost kindness and care. Ace put up a great fight to go beyond the sickness that was ailing him. Just after last Christmas, it became apparent that neither one of us could go on with his waging a losing battle. I called the vet hospital and made arrangements for Ace to be put to sleep. I was heartbroken, and cried my heart out for weeks afterward Ace was such a special, ele- gant dog, but then, isn’t every dog special in some way? Trying my best to hold on to the precious and happy memories of our life together, I had a montage created, complete with a large black ceramic black Lab standing at attention by the montage. To all of you who have lost your pets, my heart goes out to you. The paw prints that our pets leave upon our hearts are precious beyond words. Goodbye, Ace, a large part of my heart goes with you. To all of you who helped in Ace’s journey through his life, I extend a heartfelt thanks, especially the staff at our veterinary hospital. Ace made countless friends along the way. He truly was an exceptional dog, and he left us smiling, going home to meet with his Creator. —Bonnie Cowan Paws For Thought

High fire danger & high winds to end

Today is likely the last day of high fire danger & high winds, as the weekend forecast is for cooler temperatures & pe-riods of rain.

This week, the danger was ‘high’, with yesterday peaking at ‘extreme’.

The Kamloops Fire Centre is expect-ing strong winds again today with gusts up to 50-60 km/hour, and urge the pub-lic and industry personnel to exercise ex-treme caution when conducting outdoor burning. They are expected to become light to moderate in the coming days.

Statement on Earth Day“While this year’s [Earth Day, Apr 22]

celebrations reflect the requirement to stay apart due to COVID-19, today is a day to recommit to the work ahead – tackling the threats of climate change and unlocking the twin benefits of cleaner communities and clean-energy economies that will de-termine the future of our planet.

“This past year has shown remarkable changes in the clean economy, despite the global pandemic. Major automakers have increased commitments to electric vehicles, pledging to phase out fossil-fuel cars. Global investors are moving trillions of dollars to build a net-zero economy. And more than 110 countries have already pledged to reach net-zero emissions.
