a locus of community hybridity, this bakery for Homeboy Industries provides work and education for ex-cons and those at risk, as well as exhibition and commercial space for public involvement. at the interface of chinatown, olvera street, and little tokyo, the site is already charged with cultural energy. the bakery funnels in these diverse flows to provoke chance encounters and narrations. Visual, aromatic, and programmatic layering incite a continual transformative experience. a multiplicity of entries, a folding roofscape, and an extended public stair provide endless permutations of spatial and sensory fragments.
