1. DANGER * WARNING For Safe Operation:

The following warning marks and instructions are used to attain safe operation of this equipment. You are requested to strictly observe the warnings and cautions to prevent accidents.

1-1. DEFINITION OF WARNING/CAUTION This instruction manual defines “WARNING” and “CAUTION” as follows and uses marks shown below. These warning marks are important for safe operation. They also carry important instructions to prevent accidents and physical damage. Read them carefully prior to starting operation.

:Indicates a potentially hazardous situation, which, if not avoided, could result in serious injury. :Indicates a potentially hazardous situation, which, if not avoided, could result in serious injury or equipment and facility damage.

:Indications are given when work efficiency or equipment safety can be improved. 1

· Fully ventilate the work place, when handling hazardous liquids. Also, be sure to wear protective clothing (safety mask, safety goggles, safety gloves).

· Do not discharge harmful materials into the environment. · When pumping flammable liquids, equipment should be grounded to prevent static charge build up. · DO NOT use any material which is not compatible with the liquid portion of the pulsation dampener.

· The maximum supply air pressure of this equipment is 100PSI. Any use beyond this limit can cause accidents or physical harm resulting from pulsation dampener failure. An air regulator is recommended in conjunction with the pump to easily adjust incoming air supply. IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLATION/PIPING

· Select piping material by considering appropriate size, chemical resistance, pressure resistance, etc. Use ap-propriate piping material to avoid leakage.

· DO NOT test for air leakage by applying compressed air to the suction of the pump or the discharge port of the dampener. This can result in a diaphragm rupture or air valve failure.

· Be sure to install vertically (shaft) with the fluid ports at the bottom.

(Mounting the pulsation dampener sideways reduces effectiveness).

CORROSION RESISTANCE

The wet end (including the diaphragm) of this equipment is manufactured of various materials. (See page 11). Refer to the YAMADA Corrosions Resistance Guide to ensure chemical compatibility.

2. OBJECTIVE

This equipment plays an important role as an accessory to Yamada air-operated double diaphragm pumps. The pulsation dampener serves to reduce pulsation produced in operation and to assure stable discharge flow and pressure.

3. PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION

When pulsations occur with pump operation, it will result in the pressure in Chamber B being greater than that in Chamber A. The diaphragm will act as an air cushion and automatically adjust to this pres-sure change and absorb the pulsations. This operation will shift the center rod position upwards and allow more air in Chamber A through the air inlet, returning the diaphragm to a neutral position. If liquid pressure de-creases, air pressure in Chamber A causes the diaphragm to move downward, shifting shaft location and changing valve position, releasing excess air pressure in Chamber A which returns diaphragm to a neutral position. This action causes a re-duction in surges and pul-sation caused by a air-operated double dia-phragm pump.

4. PRECAUTIONS Be sure to strictly observe the following warnings and cautions, as they are extremely important:

Air supplied always needs to be clean, passing through a 5mµ filter. Periodically drain the air compressor so that this equipment can operate in environments free of dust and contamination in air without causing mal-function.

Regulate supply air pressure to equal that of the air pressure to the diaphragm pump. Be sure to use supply air pressu re to stay equal to or below 100PSI. Do not directly discharge liquid on the ground. Follow the applicable laws and regulations for disposal of

harmful substances, etc. Upon completion of operation or when not utilizing a long period of time, be sure to shut off air supply to both the pulsation dampener and the pump.

In the event of a diaphragm rupture inside the pulsation dampener, process liquid may flow from the silencer. This may contaminate the environment and/or cause physical harm.

Therefore, it is recommended to pipe the exhaust to a safe location.

INSTALLATION TIPS

· Mount pulsation dampener as close to the pump as possible. This will allow the pulsation dampener to see as much operating pressure as possible, which will increase pulsation dampener efficiency and effectiveness.

If the pulsation dampener is to be used in a low head application, you may need to add a control valve after the pulsation dampener to restrict flow and increase resistance.

5. INSTALLATION 5-1. Supply air pressure to the pulsation dampener (see below) by branching the air supply line from the pump. Use supply air pressure equal to that used for the pump. 5-2. Flexible connectors are recom-mended for connecting the pump fluid dis-charge port to the pulsation dampener fluid ports. 5-3. The pulsation dampener suction and discharge ports are interchangeable.

6. INSPECTION / MAINTENANCE 6-1. TROUBLESHOOTING

Liquid leakage inspection****Examine each sealing surface for any liquid leakage. Periodically, check bolts and nuts for torque. Re-torque only when necessary.

6-3. TORQUE REQUIREMENTS

The AD-10, 25, 40 & 50 Polypropylene & Kynar? (PVDF) Pulsation Dampeners, being made of thermal plastic material, can experience dimensional fluctuation due to operating tempera-ture and longevity of service. Check regularly for liquid leakage and re-torque fasteners ac-cordingly. Reference the below table for torque specifications. When assembling or when rebuilding the pulsation dampener, change the diaphragm. Torque to specification prior to installation Inspect every three months – re-torque if necessary. In an application where there is a wide temperature fluctuation, it may be necessary to re-torque at the lowest temperature.

Any part, which is determined by Yamada to be defective in material or workmanship and returned to an authorized service location, as Ya-mada designates, shipping costs pre-paid, will be, as the exclusive remedy, repaired or replaced at Yamada’s option.
