Evaluation Question 3

How Did You Use Your Audience Feedback?

Genre & Track QuestionnaireI used questionnaires to gain some knowledge on the genre, target audience, and aspects of the video and artist. This helped me to brainstorm ideas for my products in relation to the audience’s expectations. For

example, one points out that the music was “never very big in the UK” which made me realise that I would have to try especially hard to target a UK audience. This led to my research into Madness and other Brit acts,

which in turn led to my naming of Q~branch which is, in my opinion, quintessentially British. Most questionnaires conclude that the audience would either be those who were fans in the 80s, or young

people looking for alternative entertainment (‘Reformers’ according to Young & Rubicam). I figured that 80s fans would prefer the original versions of songs for nostalgic reasons, and a teenage audience is much more ripe in the music industry. Thus, I marketed my product at youths by making my artists young and relatable,

and putting them on social media.A couple of the questionnaires suggest urban environments would be good settings for the video. I tried to

encompass this with the school locations in the chase scenes and the street location of the outside performance scene.

I had a wide range of answers for the ‘narrative/performance’ question, so in the end I did both. The ‘type of band’ question was also quite interesting. At the time I was counting on using a band so the wording of the

question doesn’t really ask what I wanted it too, it pushes the answer into the ‘band’ area rather than asking about lone singers or duos etcetera.

Furthermore the questionnaires ask what genre the reader thinks the song is. Since I had already established new wave as the genre I’m not really sure why I asked this. As such I ignored the answers the participants

gave me in regards to this question so I didn’t really use audience feedback in this way.

I also used feedback from my classmates and teacher. Above is an example of this that I put into a post although I gained more advise throughout the course that I didn’t note down. Overall I believe that the feedback I got from my classmates and teacher was more valuable than the questionnaires since it could be more specific and technical since they knew what they were

talking about. Whilst the feedback often confirmed my own ideas, I gained valuable advice on ghosting (they said it came in too early – which it did). On the other hand, I did often discard

advice since I have strong feelings and opinions on my products (as you can see above).
