H ello Ladies

It gives me pleasure to welcome you to this special issue of EW Newsletter.

As we get ready for the Empowered Woman Conference 2013 it allows me reflect on last year’s #EWC2012. This has been a real chal-lenge for me as I’ve always been nervous to host a conference.

I didn’t want to host one because every other ministry or woman was hosting conferences; I wanted to host one because of a need; a real need for women to attend and have an experi-

ence that will change their lives for better, for their homes, for their chil-dren, for their generations and especially for themselves.

I had to be convinced in myself that hosting conferences was part of my ministry and purpose, and if I believe this is part of His calling for me, all I need to do is lift His Name Up and He will draw people to Him.

It’s not about stirring up the emotional minds of women and watch them go back to their life of struggle, confusion, uncertainty etc. There had to be something more - a transformational experience that will impact their lives from the inside out, a light bulb moment; a revelation, something that would hit their spiritual understanding so that it brings about a 365 degree lifestyle change.

Since last year’s Empowered Woman Conference, I’ve grown in my spiritu-al walk, my understanding, my life’s direction and my desires. I’ve forgiven, been delivered, empowered, encouraged and matured and it brings new meaning to my divine purpose. And I’m looking forward to sharing this at the EWC 2013.

Last year I was given 3 words – The Transformed Woman and I believe this word was for me.

Continued on next page.

.

Prior to the word, I had been going round a mountain for years.

This mountain represented what was holding me back; I was being held back in my ministry, my marriage, business and it made me frustrated. I wanted to move forward, but I realised I was holding me back. My mind, my emotions, negative feelings I’d held on to from the past which had started to reflect in my behaviour towards others including my husband. I was challenged to confront my fear to succeed, projects I had embarked on in the past and failed and it started to affect my emotions because secretly in my heart I wanted to……but, I was frightened to fail again.

When I realised this, I started studying God’s Word in the area I was being challenged. I discovered that the only way to confront and deal with this mountain of stagnation was to have a deeper revelation of my true identity and to know this was to go back to God’s Word and study who His Word says I am. He took me back to specific words like “He that is in me is great-er than he that is in the world”; “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” and “I am the head and not the tail”; words I already knew, but this time the words be-came flesh and started to heal my emotions.

His Word really works! I believe He had been waiting for me to accept my situation, but also believe that I can be healed and He can heal me in His Son’s Name. His Word healed me from the inside; it touched my emotions, my mind, and my heart and made me see my world as a whole woman. I realised it was always in me, but I needed to fight against a stigmatised label of an “emotional woman” so that the transformed me can take care of business.

My mountain became very plain, my outstanding projects achieved and I have a clear strategy for 2013 and beyond and with God’s help it will be possible.

I am so excited to have you attend this event and I encourage you to open your heart and mind and take hold of the information in the atmosphere, glean from each speaker, they have the experience necessary for you to get to where you need to be in business, in relationships and in purpose.

They bring a message of hope, encouragement, inspiration and most of all a message to transform you so that you see your world as a whole woman.

Ruth Dickson is an anointed Song -writer, Singer, Author and Missionary.

She has the creative ability to communicate God's word to people through the gift of her voice.

The discovery of her singing voice was quite coincidental. She started out by writing Holy Spirit inspired words to paper. Her first song, written in 1998, was taken up by the worship team of the Church she attended then and it was very successful.

Since then she has moved from glory to glory, singing her own songs. Now she travels internationally, as a worship leader and missionary, taking God's word to the nations.

Ruth believes in the instruction that Jesus Christ gave His disciples after His resurrection; that we are to spread his teachings to all the nations of the world. Ruth ministers internationally and also sings in several languages. Ruth believes that the chief end of every man is to glorify God.

A kirfa Chic

Akirfa Chic represents the fusion of African and

Caribbean artistic culture in this showcase of vi-

brant colourful women’s hand held fans, an ac-

cessory that aims to ‘inspire your attire’.

Formed in 2011, the brainchild of two Afro-

Caribbean women, Shirley Grey-Allen and Jenny

Vardon, of Jamaican/ Ghanaian heritage, a union

which resulted in this inspiration.

The birth of the product was formed from the original template, of Ghana-

ian design, made from treated animal hide. Their goal was to develop a

high quality product that was both practical, looked good and would be

suitable for all ages. They envisaged a fan that could be matched to what-

ever you were wearing, be unique and to stand out from the competition

with a quality product at a great price.

The materials used are all locally sourced so are accessible, and thereby

help to support and sustain local communities. The fabrics compliment the

hand-made intricate tie-dye process, are malleable, thus allowing for their

sleek design. The finish is of a high standard, with leather bound handles

and trimmings available in a variety of colours. All products are supplied

with a beautiful handmade machine washable case, and the end product is

worthy of the highest acclaim.

A must have accessory item to coordinate with shoes bags scarves. It is

suitable for special events and occasions such as weddings and holidays.

The material is light and the dimension of the fan allows it to fit snugly into

a small handbag, so is accessible and convenient for all occasions. The

product is durable so is a perfect gift for life and is suitable for all ages.

Antonina GriffinAntonina Griffin——Founder Founder The Scar FoundationThe Scar Foundation

If you’re on Facebook and in my network of friends list then you

would have recognised the face of this amazing woman.

After my early morning devotion one morning, I turned on my Black-

berry phone to get a bit of Facebook information before my day gets

busy. On My wall I saw a powerful video of a woman who was nar-

rating her story—Against All Odds. I couldn’t stop watching, a tear

rolled down my eyes as I thanked God for using this woman to rein-force His Glory, His Majesty and

the Love He has for His children. Antonina Griffin is an amazing woman with a powerful testimony;

she epitomizes the whole meaning of a woman who has stepped out into purpose; and I couldn’t

wait to interview her for this special feature of Women Stepping Out! For this issue of EW Newsletter.

EW: Tell us who Antonina Griffin is?

AG: Antonina Griffin is a God fearing woman who

isn't afraid to LIVE OUT LOUD for Christ. I am a

wife, a mother, an entrepreneur who believes all

things are possible. I'm a survivor, a survivor who

lives a life full of purpose on purpose. I'm a person

who loves hard and only wants the best for every-

body. I'm a girl that’s happy to be ME and there's

nothing I would change about ME and my journey.

EW: Your profile mentions that you had an entre-

preneurial spirit from a very early age in your life,

where did it come from?

AG: I must say it came from my higher power. The

entrepreneurial spirit that I have comes from God

and nobody but God. No one in my family were en-

trepreneurs so it wasn't learned. Being an entre-

preneur wasn't taught but I always knew I wanted

my own business. So there you have it, this gift

came from God .

EW: What is your purpose?

AG: My purpose is to let the entire world know

who God is and to also let the world know that

no matter what you go through you can come

out. My purpose is to tell my story so that others

can come out. My purpose is to help as many

people as I can, whether it's through social me-

dia, a phone conversation, an email, a confer-

ence, financial blessing or if it's just being an

listening ear. My purpose is to help others to

discover their God given talent or purpose. I was

created with the strength I needed to go

through so that others can know that they have

the strength that need to come out. Every-thing

I've been through was for my purpose that's

why my motto is "I was PURPOSED for This!" My

purpose is simply to LIVE OUT LOUD!

EW: Tell us the events that led to you discover-

ing your purpose?

AG: I was tired, tired of a life filled with heart-

ache and pain. I knew that there was more to

my life than a life full of misery.

20

WW OMEN STEPPING OUT! ContinuedOMEN STEPPING OUT! Continued

Antonina GriffinAntonina Griffin——Founder Founder

The Scar FoundationThe Scar Foundation

AG: I wanted more so I decided to try this Jesus

person one more time. My decision to try Jesus

again was the best decision of my life. Once I de-

veloped a relationship with God, I finally got it. I

understood that I went through all of that hell on

earth for a reason and that reason was so that I

would be equipped to fulfil my purpose.

EW: What do you think is one of the main issues

affecting women ‘s progress in our generation?

AG: Women are hurting and don't know how to

stop the pain. But I know a Man by the name of

Jesus that can love all the pain away. I LIVE OUT

LOUD so they can know if God did it for me he can

and will do it for them too.

EW: What are your suggestions on how women

can overcome such issues to fulfil purpose?

AG: Forgiveness is a key factor. We must learn to

forgive the person that caused us pain. You must

also have just a little HOPE. My definition of HOPE

is to allow God to Heal the Hurt, so you can Over-

come Obstacles, get Past the Pain so that you can

reach your Expected End. The healing of a broken

or hurting heart is not an easy process but you

must allow God to carry you through the process.

EW: How have you merged your business inter-

est to operate in line with purpose?

AG: My business ties into my purpose. I'm in the

mental health and substance abuse field; there-

fore I help people everyday. Ralph Waldo Emerson

said "What lies behind us and what lies before us

are tiny matters...compared to what lies within us."

This quote is on my wall in my office and my job is to

get people to tap into what lies within. There's great-

ness inside of each and everyone of us, it just need to

be discovered.

EW: Antonina, you’re story of Hope, Belief and De-

termination was an inspiration to many and has

been watched globally in that you told your real sto-

ry. Your success shows how God has transformed

your life. Empowered Woman is hosting its 2nd an-

nual conference with the theme “The Transformed

Woman” what does transformation mean to you

and how does a woman seek to be transformed for

God’s Kingdom?

AG: When I think of transformation I think of a pearl.

A natural pearl forms inside a bivalve mollusc when

the shell has been invaded by a parasite or damaged.

However after the damaged shell of a mollusc goes

through a painful process a beautiful, priceless pearl

is formed. As women we go through things that in-

vades our lives and damage us but if we can just

make it through the process, something beautiful and

priceless will be birthed through our pain. I often tell

women 'I don't look like what I've been through!' I'm

thankful that God transformed my mess into a mes-

sage. It was painful and I say it loud and proud "I was

PURPOSED for This!" I thank God for all of my wounds

he transformed into a SCAR. I didn't want to just be

healed but I wanted to be made whole. Transfor-

mation means I was made whole. END

K EEPING HOPE ALIVE

BY ANTONINA GRIFFIN

24

Now faith is the substance of things

HOPED for and the evidence of things

not seen. I keep hope alive through my

faith, I simply believe. I keep hope alive

by hoping in hopeless situations. Hope is

belief in a positive outcome no matter

the situation. I believe that there will be

a positive outcome even when the odds

are stacked against me. Life didn’t deal

me a pretty hand but because I kept

hope alive I learned how to play the

hand I was dealt and I’m playing it well.

We all face challenges in life but we

must learn to trust the process. We must

know and under-stand that sometimes

we got to go through it in order to get to

it. And we can’t let anyone or no thing

stop us.

We have to learn to keep hope alive when our enemies come against us. We have to learn to keep hope

alive when our friends turn their backs on us, when neighbours are not so friendly. We have to learn to

keep hope alive when our loved ones are not loving.

One of the worst things we can do is give up hope. When you give up hope you live a life in depression

and despair. It’s harder to regain hope after it’s lost than it is to just keep hope alive. Don’t ever lose

hope. People can take a lot of things from you and they can do a lot of things to you but don’t you ever

let them take away your determination, your will, and your drive and don’t you dare let them take away

your hope.

I remember growing up in poverty. I mean we were really poor. I wanted to try out for cheerleading but

I didn’t believe I would make the team because of our financial situation. I knew I was good enough but

I believed our finances was going to hold me back. The other girl’s parents had more money, they drove

nice cars and they lived in nice neighbourhoods.

Continued on Page 25

K EEPING HOPE ALIVE CONTINUED

BY ANTONINA GRIFFIN

25

My Aunt told me “Antonina, do you believe you can make the team? Those girls are no better than you;

as a matter of fact you are a better cheerleader than all of them! I just need you to believe” That little

talk gave me all the hope I needed. Not only did I make the team but I was the best cheerleader on the

team. It didn’t matter that we were poor. It didn’t matter that we didn’t have a car to get me home

from practice. All that mattered was me making the team. I held on to hope, and belief, and I was de-

termined to make it and I did.

Keeping hope alive requires a lot of POSITIVITY. My aunt was the positive driving force pushing me.

When people around me were saying I wouldn’t make it, I had to tell myself I am going to make it. I had

to speak positivity over my own life. I had to learn to stay away from negative people at an early age.

When you are trying to keep hope alive staying away from negative people is a must. Stay away from

people who don’t think they deserve the best that life has to offer. Stay away from people who don’t

believe in their own dreams. And stay away from people who don’t believe in you.

I keep hope alive because I know that all things are working together for my good. So if I’m in a bad sit-

uation I know that somehow it’s going to work for my good. Don’t allow the pressures of life weigh you

down, instead keep HOPE alive by allowing God to:

Heal the Hurt, so you can

Overcome Obstacles, to get

Past the Pain, to reach your

Expected End!

The Four Seasons of Marriage—Summer Season

Summer is a season we all look forward to , at

this time of the year, we are eating salads, fresh

corn etc. Summer is when the gardener reaps the

benefits of what was planted and nurtured in

spring.

For children, summer is the time to relax. School

is closed and the pool is open. The sun stays

awake longer and so do the kids. Hot, sweaty fac-

es indicate intense activity, but for children, it is

sheer joy.

Fun is also the theme of a summer marriage. Life

is beautiful. We are reaping the benefits of our

hard efforts to understand each other an to work

together as a team to see the dreams of spring

fulfilled. The anticipation of spring has turned

into the reality of summer. The initial excitement

may have waned, but your sense of connection

with each other has deepened. You have fewer

misunderstandings, and when there is, resolu-

tions come more quickly.

You may or may not have reached your financial

goals, you may or may not have children, you

satisfaction, accomplishment and connection. It

may come at a busy time of life, but the busyness

need not destroy the intimacy.

Happiness, satisfaction, peace, fun, comfort are

words that describe the emotions of a couple

who are living in the summer season of marriage.

The Attitudes of Summer

Imagine a deck filled with beautiful potted flow-

ers: impatiens, Gerber, daisies, hibiscus, petunias,

geraniums and portulaca. That have been bloom-

ing profusely all summer long. However one ob-

servation that can be made is that if flowers are

not watered, they wilt; and the first to drop their

heads when the water ceases to flow are the im-

patiens.

Summer marriages are much like flowers: they

are beautiful, but they must be watered. Couples

who are successful at having an extended season

of summer in their marriage are ones who have

learned to maintain what they have attained.

They recognise that the summer season did not

come without preparing the soil, planting the

seeds and nurturing the marriage.

Now that they are enjoying the beauty of sum-

mer, they want to maintain it, and they have an

attitude of work and growth. Almost without ex-

ception, couples who experience the summer

season of marriage also have a desire to contin-

ue growing.

Summer does not equal perfection, but it does

mean that couples in this season have a sense of

accomplishment and a desire to continue grow-

ing. Most couples in the summer season of mar-

riage realise that it took work to get there. They

have a positive attitude about their marriage,

they are enjoying their spouse and they intend

to continue “watering the flowers”. These atti-

tudes lead to positive actions that keep the sum-

mer happiness flowing.

The Actions of Summer

Summer is a time of increased activity. We travel

to new places and have new experiences. Or we

make our annual pilgrimage to the beach house

or the mountain, where we relive the experienc-

es if past summers and make new memories for

the future. Summer does not create activities,

but it provides a climate in which they can flour-

ish.

In a summer marriage, the warm emotional cli-

mate fosters positive actions. The atmosphere is

relaxed, you understand your spouse better, ac-

cept each other’s differences and learned how to

resolve conflicts. END
