The AirMT™ is designed to address two major challenges faced by regular physical contact multi-fiber optical connectivity solutions, such as MPO connectors. The first challenge is that the MPO connector is highly sensitive all forms of contamination. With such a large endface and so many fibers, it is very difficult to ensure pristine condition for the entire surface area of the ferrule. Secondly, the standard MPO connector requires high spring force to achieve physical contact for MT to MT ferrules.

The AirMT™ soars past the competition with its superior resistance to contamination, which in turn means less cleaning and quicker installations in harsh environments. Due to not being sensitive to contaminants the AirMT™ is very repeatable which can be seen on the graph on the left.

AirMT™ uses a lower spring force to meet IL of <0.5dB and a RL of >55dB, which are comparable to other physical contact MPO connectors.
