1. sprains (soft tissue injury)/muscle cramps R – Rest the injured part I – Apply Ice on the injured part C – Compress on the injured area E – Elevate the injured limb Precautions: 1. Make sure the ice is in a plastic bag and is wrapped with bandage so that it’s not too cold 2. If the injured limb is bleeding, apply gauze and compress ON the gauze 3. If suspected fracture or dislocation, DO NOT PUT ICE How do you know if it’s fractured? 1. Listen if there’s a sound (cracking) 2. Observe if the joint is in place 3. The casualty mentioned 2. Wound (Bleeding) a. Severe bleeding - compress the area with gauze until the bleeding lessen - treat for bleeding - IF INJURY IS SEVERE, IMMEDIATELY FIND A TEACHER b. mild bleeding - treat for bleeding c. foreign object on wound - if it is tiny and is not deep, remove it (ask the casualty for confirmation of the foreign object) - if it is massive and possibly deep (do not remove it, if removed, apply compression on the injured area til bleeding stops) 3. Unconsciousness a. Fainting - Lay down, elevate the legs - Fan the casualty - Improve her ventilation (unbutton, take off shoes, tie, etc)
