. . . Pat Tobin to Steve Nelson It's Christmas eve afternoon, and an idle mind is the devil's workshop.... At your November FAST meeting , you introduced, and I spoke to, Ed Winfield’s grandson, I think! If he was there, it should be mentioned in our e-newsletter; possibly H4H4s as well. Can you confirm that he was, and tell me what you know about him? How you know him, etc? I do recall asking him if he was interested in cars, and he answered, "Not much", or similar. I recall being dumbstruck, meet-ing a sort of celebrity. At your convenience, of course. 1243, Tobin

. . . Steve Nelson to Pat Tobin Hi Pat. Ed is actually Ed Winfield’s neph-ew. His father was Bud Winfield Ed's brother. Bud Winfield was killed in a car accident when his son Ed Winfield who was named after his brother was about 1 year old. My cousin who is not really into cars when looking at my speedster years ago and seeing the Winfield carburetor mentioned he had gone to college with a Ed Winfield whose father and uncle de-veloped the carburetor. Many years later Kem Robertson who writes that wonderful Winfield history for the FAST magazine came out to Califor-nia to present Ed with his father and un-cles plaques for induction into the Sprint Car Hall of Fame. In attendance were myself , my wife Jeanne ,Greg Martinez, Pat Coyle, Dema Elgin and Suzanne and of course Kem and Ed and his wife. This was my first time meeting Ed. We had a nice dinner and he is trying to learn all he can about his father and un-cles legacy. He also told the tale about him and my cousin trying to get my cous-ins gutless Volkswagen loaded with surf gear over the Santa Cruz mountains when they were in college.

Ed Winfield was at our November meeting at Steve Nelson’s

I asked Steve if the carburetor Winfield was related to his guest.

Answer . . . YES!

Below is the short correspondence between Nelson and me that should interest most

of you. I sure did. Pat Tobin

YOUR STROMBERGS (AND WALLET) COULD USE THESE! New fuel pump products. Stromberg 97s and 81s are notorious leakers with recommended fuel pressure at around 3 lbs. The Napa Posi-Flo, illustrated, has a rating of 1-4 lbs. I have been using it successfully for a few years without a regulator. The price is about $60. JEGS current catalog features a pump that may or may not require a pressure regulator (see pressure relief valve wording), but it is only $43.
