End of Year BBQ

At the end of year, Self Help Workplace hosted a small BBQ to mark the International Day for

People with Disabilities and celebrate the achievements of the year. The 2012 BBQ was a terrific day with everybody enjoying the BBQ, birthday cake from the 50th birthday celebrations and icecreams donated by Peters Ice Cream. Self Help Workplace also thanks the Department of Families, Community, Housing and Indigenous Affairs for its generous financial assistance.

Sam, one of our newest employees joins the queue to

get lunch.

Hamish and Robert enjoy a piece of birthday cake and

an icecream.

50th anniversary commemorative book

One of the highlights of the 50th anniversary celebrations was the publication of a 70 page colour pictorial history book taking you through 50 years of Self Help Workplace. More like a family album than a dry history, the book contains lots of interesting information and fabulous photographs about the people who have built Self Help Workplace.

Users of the Training Room enjoy new seats Thanks to a generous grant from the Tasmanian Community Fund, Self Help Workplace has equipped the training room with new chairs. The objective of this project was to install new chairs in the training room that were more appropriate for the room and its users. The existing chairs were damaged, heavy and difficulty to manoeuvre. The installation of the chairs was also designed to create a more useable training/meeting room facility that could be more effectively utilised by staff, employees, clients and customers.

It’s time to clean out your linen cupboard

Self Help Workplace needs unwanted linen, towels and flannelette to use as rags.

And turn this

into this... Rags are an essential part of many businesses. They are used by manufacturers, car repairers and tradespeople every day to help in maintenance and clean up. Self Help Workplace turns donated linen into rags for sale. You can make a donation at clothing bins at Self Help Workplace, the PCYC at Newstead, the Norwood shopping centre or Windsor Community Precinct at Riverside. Thank you for you donation.

If you need rags, Please contact Juanita Richardson in Business Services

Laserlite installed in the Production Sheds just in time for summer

Last year, Self Help Workplace received a grant of $10,000 from the QBE Foundation to install laserlite in the production sheds. The laserlite has substantially reduced glare and heat in the sheds resulting in a more comfortable and productive work space for the team of 2 staff and 17 supported employees. In winter, it is expected that the new layer of laser lite will reduce condensation and the resultant ‘drips’ in the shed. Self Help Workplace thanks Armstrongs Insurance Brokers and the QBE Foundation for their generous support.

Before After

A helping hand to those in need Adrian , one of Self Help Workplace’s valuable employees wanted to help the victims of Tassie’s bush fires, so he got a jar and asked employees, staff and customers to chip in. And they did. Within 2 days Adrian had raised $62.00 which was donated to the LAFM Bush Fire Appeal. Well done Adrian and thanks to all those who made a donation. Self Help Workplace has also donated two gift vouchers to the Rotary Club of Tamar Sunrise cocktail gala event on 24 January 2013.
