Prayers

A Prayer Before Mass

Loving Father, as on my earthly pilgrimage I come to receive Your beloved Son under the veil of a sacrament, may I one day see Him face to face in glory, who lives and reigns with

You for ever and ever. Amen.

A Prayer After Receiving Holy Communion

Anima Christi Soul of Christ, be my sanctification;

Body of Christ, be my salvation; Blood of Christ, fill all my veins;

Water of Christ's side, wash out my stains; Passion of Christ, my comfort be;

O good Jesus, listen to me; In Thy wounds I fain would hide; Ne'er to be parted from Thy side;

Guard me, should the foe assail me; Call me when my life shall fail me;

Bid me come to Thee above, With Thy saints to sing Thy love,

World without end. Amen. A Spiritual Communion Prayer for those unable to receive

the Eucharist My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to re-ceive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

Hail, Holy Queen Hail, holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope! To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears! Turn, then, O most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary. V: Pray for us, O holy Mother of God. R/: That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

LITANY TO ST. JOSEPH We invite you to pray this at home dur-ing the month of March.

When this litany is prayed in public, the con-gregation responds to a leader with the words in italics.

Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. Christ, hear us. Christ, graciously hear us.

God, the Father of Heaven, have mercy on us. God the Son, Redeemer of the world, have mercy on us. God the Holy Spirit, have mercy on us. Holy Trinity, One God, have mercy on us. Holy Mary, pray for us (after each line) Saint Joseph, Renowned offspring of David, Light of Patriarchs, Spouse of the Mother of God, Chaste guardian of the Virgin, Foster-father of the Son of God, Diligent protector of Christ, Head of the Holy Family, Joseph most just, Joseph most chaste, Joseph most prudent, Joseph most strong, Joseph most obedient, Joseph most faithful, Mirror of patience, Lover of poverty, Model of artisans, Glory of home life, Guardian of virgins, Pillar of families, Solace of the wretched, Hope of the sick, Patron of the dying, Terror of demons, Protector of Holy Church, Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, Spare us, O Lord. Lamb of God, who take away the sins of the world, Graciously hear us, O Lord. Lamb of God, who take away the sins of the world, Have mercy on us. V. He made him the lord of His house: R. And ruler of all His substance. Let us pray. O God, who in Thine unspeakable providence didst vouch-safe to choose blessed Joseph to be the spouse of Thine own most holy Mother: grant, we beseech Thee, that we may de-serve to have him for our intercessor in heaven, whom we reverence as our defender on earth: who livest and reignest world without end. Amen.

Blood Pressure Screening this Weekend

Volunteers will be checking blood pressures this weekend after the 5 p.m., 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. Masses. High blood pressure is known as a “Silent Killer” since very often the individual experiences no symptoms. Getting your blood pressure checked is a short and simple health screening that you should do regularly. Plan to stop in the back of Church next weekend. Remember, it is a quick way to monitor your health!

Enrichment Courses at St. Thecla School Saint Thecla School provides students with many opportunities to participate in a vari-ety of different enrichment courses after school. In these classes students explore vari-ous activities such acting, sewing, film making, and martial arts. One of these extra-curricular programs is called Young Actor's Studio. In this course, students have been preparing a monologue to present to the group, and possibly at the school's variety show. The students play many acting games that help them develop skills in facial ex-pression, different tones of voice, accents, and even singing. Molly Fay said, "We have a lot of fun! It is nice to make each other laugh, and get to know more kids out-side of school."

In Sewing Club, the students have learned to use a sewing machine as well as to sew by hand. They have made a pillowcase, tote bags, and a stuffed bunny. The stuffed bunny was completely sewn by hand. Emma Lizak said, "I've never used a sewing ma-chine before. I like that I know how to now! I will carry all of my arts and crafts sup-plies in my new tote bag. It is made of jean material, and has sequin butterflies at-tached."

In the Movie Creation Club, the students have been using iPads to create their own films with the iMovie app. The students develop and write their own story, bring in props and costumes, and set the scenery for their movie. The students star in their films, record, and edit their work. On the last day, they sit back, and enjoy their

exciting film creations.

In the Karate Kids Club, the students have been working hard to develop coordination, balance, and knowl-edge of self-defense. The class has practiced many new moves including: the front kick, the side kick, the high block, the knife hand, punches, and more. Grace Lizak said, "I like when we do the karate walk across the gym, because it really helped boost my karate skills. My favorite new move is the "high knee." Five year old, Ryan Roth said, "I learned the side kick, and how to make a loud "hi-ya" noise. Karate is fun."

Dear St. Thecla Parishioners,

St. Thecla is the quintessential neighborhood parish and school. It is our 90th year and we are here to stay! There is always room for growth and we are looking at ways to build the enroll-ment of students in the school and encouraging newcomers to join the parish. Remember all of the “you” are an integral part of the “we” that keep the tradition of passing on the Catholic Faith.

The Finance Council and I have regularly made you aware of the significant financial progress the parish has made in recent years and our plan to keep the parish on a sound financial footing. Thank you for the sacrifices that you make to help the parish financially. As you have heard before, one of our key areas of financial focus for the parish is the Church collections. There is good news and bad news regarding Church collections this fiscal year.

The final numbers are in for our Christmas collection and the good news is that the $35,500 donated exceeded both our budget and prior year’s Christmas collection. Thank you for your generosity! We are hoping for – and we need – similar generosity with the upcoming Easter collection.

The bad news is that our regular weekly collection continues to fall short of where we need it to be. We have fallen $31,000 short of our weekly collection budget so far this fiscal year – and our year-to-date weekly collec-tions continue to run lower than last year. It is likely that this harsh winter may have periodically impacted our parishioners’ ability to get to church and make their intended weekly donation. We do need to make up this year-to-date collection budget shortfall somehow.

To help reduce our collection shortfall and the impact that it could have on our parish finances, we are conducting a special “budget gap” collection. Mailed to your homes recently, with a letter from me was a “budget gap” Special collection envelope for your use. The Special budget gap collection envelopes will also be placed in the pews for your use. Please be as generous as your means allow and return the Special collection envelope with your donation either by mail, to the parish office, or in the regular weekly church collection basket – whichever is easier for you.

Please continue to use your weekly contribution envelopes or consider enrolling today in ParishPay our electronic giv-ing option and consistently prioritize your support of St. Thecla parish. Are you able to increase your Sunday contri-bution this year if you haven’t done so already? Thank you for giving this your consideration.

St. Thecla parish is a blessed community with many parishioners willing to share of themselves and their blessings. Your sharing of a portion of what God has blessed you with is greatly appreciated and I sincerely thank you. You are in my prayers and I ask our Lord to bless you and our parish abundantly during this Easter season.

Yours in Christ, Fr. Gene

Keep in mind. . .

News from our fabulous 4th grade.....

Students have been very busy lately. In the middle of February, students began their Lenten journey of fasting, praying, and alms giving. During this time, they will be silent in the hallways to remember those who cannot communicate. They will also raise both money and items to support Chicago Canine Rescue to remember those animals in need of shelter, food, and families. If you are inter-ested in donating, please let Mrs. Adams know : [email protected]. They also colored stained glass im-ages to decorate our hallway bulletin board.

At the end of February, we were visited by a special guest from Heartland Alliance- Meesha Abad, a pre-senter about oral health. She came and spoke to the students in grades kindergarten through fourth about how to keep their teeth health and clean. Our own Will Sadler was chosen to help our presenter model a large set of teeth while she discussed proper brushing techniques.

On March 13, the fourth graders, along with our entire St. Thecla school, community, came together to raise money and show support for those suffering from childhood cancer. Ten of the fourth grade boys chose to have their heads shaved to show support and solidarity for those effected every day. Great job, boys!

Thank you, Mrs. Adams 4th Grade Teacher
