WEDNESDAY MEALS
Once again, beginning Wednesday, September 5,
weekly meals before music, mission groups and the
mid-week service, will be offered. A permanent list
is located in the Welcome Center to sign for those
who plan to attend weekly for the meal. Also, volunteers will be needed for
set-up, serving, and cleaning up. Julia Logan will be preparing the meals
weekly. Cost for meals will be $5.00 for Grade 6 and up; $3.00 for K-5th
grade; 4 years and under are free. A family pays no more than $16.00. Ef-
forts will be made to offer a children’s menu along with the adult menu. If
signing up for a meal week by week is a better option, please do so by noon
Tuesday. As meals resume, an issue needs to be addressed. There are
many who sign up for the permanent list. Whatever that total number is,
that many meals are prepared to be served. When the number that actually
attend is less, sometimes much less, then that means the cost for those non-
eaten meals comes from other sources, primarily the church budget. You
are being asked to take one of two actions if you are on the permanent list,
but are unable to attend a meal. One, call the church office by noon Tues-
day to cancel your meal for that week so that a more accurate number will
be prepared. Second, if you don’t cancel your meal knowing you will be
unable to attend, then pay for the missed meal(s). Hopefully, the fairness of
these two options is obvious. Thank you for your cooperation concerning
this issue.
Also, 6-8 volunteers are needed on Tuesday, August 28, 6 PM, to help
clean and get the kitchen ready for the weekly meals. Please see the sign-up
sheet in the Welcome Center. Wednesday night meals enhance the activi-
ties that are offered. Come join with fellow church members as a meal and
fellowship are enjoyed!

PASTOR’S COLUMN
They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and fellowship, to the breaking
of bread and the prayers. Awe came upon everyone, because many wonders and
signs were being done by the apostles. All who believed were together and had all
things in common; they would sell their possessions and goods and distribute the
proceeds to all, as any had need. Day by day, as they spent much time together in
the temple, they broke bread at home and ate their food with glad and generous
hearts, praising God and having the goodwill of all the people. And day by day the
Lord added to their number those who were being saved. (Acts 2:42-47, NRSV)
At the time of writing this column, I’ve just completed a letter for our 2018-19
Church Calendar? Can you believe that another church year is upon us? The older
I get, the faster time flies, and the 2017-18 year has been the fastest one yet! John
Alan began High School yesterday (today is Tuesday as I write) and is in the proc-
ess of completing Driver’s Education. He will have his Learner’s Permit this De-
cember! Natalie began her final year of elementary school. And, our family was
blessed that my father celebrated his 85th birthday in June.
2017-18 was a year of change for our church. Phase Two of our Building Reno-
vation plan was completed. Our church spent many years praying about what
needed to be done for our building renovations. It’s hard to believe that it is com-
plete now. We are enjoying the new space and still figuring out our technology!
We also experienced the retirement of our long-time Office Administrator, Debbie
Turner, though we are grateful that she remains with us in a part-time role as Fi-
nancial Secretary. We welcomed Ken West as our Organist in October, and we are
experiencing the blessings of his talents each week in worship.
Now, as we enter 2018-19, there are new questions, new challenges and new
opportunities for ministry. I am thrilled that our ministerial staff, along with J
Deaver and Nell Bovender, have completed the Growing Young training offered
by the Fuller Youth Institute. It is our desire to continue to see ways that we can
bring the “old, old story” to a new generation of Christ-followers. Times have
changed. Our life rhythms have changed. The way we communicate has changed.
Technology has changed. Yet, the gospel remains the same!
Therefore, may I take this moment to encourage you to join with us on the jour-
ney! God is moving in these changing times. I would encourage you to get in-
volved with our Sunday Evening Discipleship programs and our Wednesday Night
meals, activities and services of prayer. If you can sing (or think you can) give
choir a try! If you would like to learn more about getting involved with our new
technology, we need you! If you are a student and need McNair hours, we can put
you to work!
We need all of you to help us provide an environment where all people may find
and follow Jesus Christ, both corporately and in their own contexts!
Grace and peace,
Tim

Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil:
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory, forever.

HYGIENE ITEMS NEEDED FOR RS MIDDLE SCHOOL
With the school year upon us, please remember that not all students have
everything that they need to help them achieve all they need in school. Some
of our students even lack basic necessities such as hygiene items for their
daily need. Please consider donating the following items for use by RS Mid-
dle School students: Toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant for boys and girls,
body spray/lotion for boys and girls. The collection box for these items are
located next to John Miller’s office door. Collection of these items are due by
Sunday, September 9.
SCHOOL BACKPACK PROGRAM—SPINDALE ELEMENTARY
The church will continue to collect Pop Tarts and breakfast bars for the
food backpack program at Spindale Elementary. Items may be placed in a
tote in the church office. The school, which provides food for approximately
100 students per week, sincerely appreciates your support.
