A little bit about me:Taught First Grade 15 + yearsLOVE IT!Lived in Utah 18 yearsBrought up in Lexington, KentuckyHave two beautiful grandchildrenThink First Grade is so much fun because the students learn to read and write. They make huge gains and love learning!

Meet Mrs. Lin- Red ClassHsiu Fang Lin is my Chinese name. You can call me Lin Laosh or Mrs. Lin (ling). I am honored to be a teacher at Syracuse Elementary School. I graduated from Taiwan's Pingtung University of Education, and have a bachelor's degree in early childhood education. In Taiwan, I worked as a teacher in the public and private kindergartens for over twenty years. In July 2006, I immigrated to California, and in 2007 moved to Utah. My passion is teaching children. I worked at Eagle Bay Elementary in the Kindergarten class for six months as a volunteer and have worked as a teachers aide in the Chinese Immersion classes at Syracuse Elementary for one and a half years. Speaking English is still difficult for me and I appreciate your understanding and tolerance. I look forward to working with you and your children this year!

Lots Of LearningWe are learning so much in First Grade! Your student will be learning to read, write, and many math concepts. There is a lot to learn, and not much time to do it in. It takes a lot of practice, and one-on-one time to master all of these skills! YOUR CHILD NEEDS YOUR HELP! Practice makes perfect, and most of the individual practice takes place at home.

Daily HomeworkLeveled ReadersOn your childs exact reading level! Read, mastered, and brought back (almost) daily. Please sign the Recording Sheet!Math/ ChineseOne worksheet everyday.Return to school the next morning in the Homework folder.

AttendanceFirst Grade is FULL of hands on experiences. These experiences can not be recreated, or sent home, in case of absences. THIS IS WHY ATTENDANCE IS SO IMPORTANT!We understand that sickness, and emergencies happen. Please do not send your student to school sick. However, please make every effort to have them at school ON TIME, EVERY DAY!

Weekly AssessmentsFRIDAY ATTENDANCE IS VITAL!We assess students every Friday in multiple areas that we have been working on during the week.Language Arts AssessmentSpelling TestThe words that are sent home on Tuesday will be tested on Friday (3 days later).Math Skills Quiz

We include practice for these assessments in the weekly homework packet. Weekly Assessments are almost impossible to make up. Please make sure that your student is in class ALL DAY on Friday.
