Nursery home learning week 5 Thursday 7 th May Phonics Last week was the first week the children were introduced to phase 2 letter sounds. We always start with the sounds for sat and pin as these can lead on to learning word/ reading quicker than learning the sounds in alphabetical order. This week I would like you to play the I spy game all week to support the learning of these new sounds. The I spay game will be attached in a separate file. Reading Take a look at this page… The Fox was very tricky! I wondered how the old man and woman felt when the fox ate the Gingerbread man? How would you feel? What would you say to the Fox? Key vocab to focus on: Gingerbread – a type of biscuit that is made with a spice called ginger. It has a warm taste. Yelling- shouting loudly, sometimes a little bit cross. Catch- grab hold of. Nursery home learning week 5 Thursday 7th May

PhonicsLast week was the first week the children were introduced to phase 2 letter sounds. We always start with the sounds for sat and pin as these can lead on to learning word/ reading quicker than learning the sounds in alphabetical order. This week I would like you to play the I spy game all week to support the learning of these new sounds. The I spay game will be attached in a separate file.

Reading Take a look at this page…

The Fox was very tricky! I wondered how the old man and woman felt when the fox ate the Gingerbread man? How would you feel? What would you say to the Fox? Key vocab to focus on: Gingerbread – a type of biscuit that is made with a spice called ginger. It has a warm taste.Yelling- shouting loudly, sometimes a little bit cross.Catch- grab hold of.LiteracyToday I wonder if you could make a gingerbread sensory tray today – you can practice writing your name in this…

You will need a tray, some flour, some dried ginger or cinnamon and a stick or the end of a paintbrush.

MathsToday I would like you to use the link https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/gingerbread-man-game to play the matching game with the Gingerbread man.

Understanding of the world Tomorrow is a Bank Holiday because it is a celebration of 75 years since a big war called World War II. On the 8th of March 1945 the second world war was officially over. This is a photo in 1945 of the royal family and the prime minister celebrating VE day (from left to right: the current Queen as a young lady – Elizabeth the second, the Queen’s mother, Winston Churchill, King George- the current Queen’s father and Princess Margaret- the Queen’s sister).

Today you could have your very own VE day party at your house, with only the people that live there. You could celebrate this special day in history.

Expressive arts and design

Using the playdough recipe that we have used before see below…See if you could make your own ginger bread people. You could even add some dried ginger, nutmeg and cinnamon to your playdough mix then it will smell just like gingerbread.

Using resources from around the house you could decorate your gingerbread person! You could use pasta, pompoms, feathers, dried beans/ lentils, buttons, string, twigs, leaves etc. These are a few gingerbread people that might give you some ideas.

Please use this as a counting activity too… counting out how many of each thing you put onto your play dough gingerbread person

Name practise – please also use this time to practise name writing with your child every day. You could follow some of the advice on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swwxOB4MS-YPlease do not get your child to write their full name in capitals only a capital at the beginning the rest lower case. This week let’s try making our names with lego! You will need to write your child’s name on either lego blocks or duplo as below:

Have fun!
