Lake Monticello Food Drive Tops PreviousRecord, Nets 4 Tons
The Lake Monticello food drive Thursdaytopped its previous best, netting 8,000 pounds ofdonated food for MACAA’s Fluvanna Food Bank, said organizer Betsy Gunnels. The food drive, organized by the Fluvanna Rotary, topped lastApril’s drive by 1,000 pounds, she said.
As a result, 12 large, fully-packed vehicles arrived at the Carysbrook Center, wheremore volunteers unpacked and re-stocked the food bank, which had requested the drive, saying the pandemic-related demand for donated food was depleting its stocks. Earlier, volunteer drivers had scoured Lake Monticello for the food donations, andother volunteers had collected and sorted the food outside the Turkeysag gate to LakeMonticello. More than 70 volunteers were involved in the drive. “Congratulations to thecitizens of Fluvanna for a job well done,” Gunnels said.
