SCHOOL PLAN 2014 The draft School Plan for 2014 has been written. If you would like to read it, please contact the office.

SWIMMING CARNIVAL (repeat) Our annual swimming carnival will be held at Woy Woy pool on Friday, 21 February. Please ensure your child has enough water, food and sunscreen and a hat on the day. NB THERE WILL BE NO CANTEEN OPEN AT BRISBANIA PS ON FRIDAY 21 FEBRUARY. PLEASE ENSURE YOUR

CHILD HAS DRINKS AND FOOD FROM HOME.

CONTACTING TEACHERS (repeat) Teachers are very busy of a morning and afternoon with preparation and meetings. If you would like to talk to your child’s teacher, please phone the office to make an appointment at a mutually agreeable time. If there is something that is urgent for the day, send in a note with your child or leave a message at the office so the teacher is aware. Please be assured that the staff will work with you should a problem arise.

WORLD’s GREATEST SHAVE- 14 March at Brisbania PS (Repeat) This year, Brisbania PS will donate proceeds of our Crazy Hair Day on Friday, 14 March to The World’s Greatest Shave, to support people living with and research into blood cancer. Please help us raise funds by donating a gold coin on the day! We are asking students not to shave, but come up with their craziest hair design. No hair spray can be used, due to allergies. Be creative- using colour, gel, extensions, clips, ribbons etc.

ROAD SAFETY (repeat) Deborah Batey, Road Safety Officer from Gosford Council, inspected the safety of our students on Thursday morning in Shaw St. She spoke to a number of parents at that time. Please remember that the driveway, dirt area adjacent to the school and car park is for staff parking, emergency access and /or deliveries only. Please use the footpath when walking in the school grounds with your child. The turning circle, in front of the school is a Kiss and Drop zone only, there is no parking permitted in this area. Additionally, in Brisbania Close there is no stopping at any time in the turning circle. Rangers do patrol schools and fines can be costly. Please assist us in providing our students with the best possible road safety around our school.

CLARIFICATION - STONE FRUIT, GRAPES & BLUEBERRIES I have noted the comments on Facebook regarding the stone fruit, grapes and blueberries. Having a mild to moderate allergy myself to chocolate, penicillin and mosquitoes, I know firsthand the effect an allergy has on the body. An anaphylactic attack can be deadly. I’m sure you will understand that we need to look after all students’ medical needs. We encourage parents not to send along nut or egg products in addition to all stone fruit, grapes, and blueberries. These products can cause anaphylactic or deadly allergic reactions in some of our students. Not sending these products along not only protects our anaphylactic students but it also protects your child from the trauma of seeing an anaphylactic reaction. Should the degree of allergy change, I will let you know via the next published newsletter after notification. Thank you for your understanding.

Wow! We are in week 4 already and it's time for our first meeting for 2014 - this Thursday 20th February, we will be discussing many important things including our school photography options, exciting opportunities for our canteen and planning our fundraising events for the year. DID YOU KNOW.... Our canteen is run independently by the P & C. It offers many exciting, fresh, healthy and nutritious foods. Most of our items are home made in our very own canteen. Why don't you try the range of healthy gourmet wraps and burgers. The JUMBO burger is packed with salad. Yum! Please check the BPS website for the 2014 menu and current prices. Remember, as parents and community members you are welcome to come and join the P & C at any time throughout the year. You may chose to do this when you notice that we will be discussing a topic of particular interest to you and your children or join to help contribute ideas to help our school be the best it can be. Our meetings are held in the staff room at 7.30pm each third Thursday of the month. It only costs $2 to join and we highly value your input and involvement. Alternatively you can e mail the P & C using - [email protected] Liza Moulton On behalf of Brisbania P & C
