Chantal Dupisani knows all about Consumer and Corporate Regulations, and specializes in Company law and Corporates. She returned to Port Elizabeth to join the Access Team as Legal Compliance Officer in 2011, then in 2014 she became full time CEO of the Port Elizabeth stadium. Chantal is an adventure athlete and her ambition is to do the Half Iron Man in 2016 on behalf of the Smile Founda-tion.

Chantal’s presentation took the form of slides, showing the Nelson Mandela Stadium journey 2010 - 2015 and beyond. She gave us a brief look into the cost and the upkeep of the stadium, and how it affect us as a city. She spoke about the six stadia built for the World Cup in 2010. At the time the PE stadium was counted as most likely to be a 'white elephant', but the current statistics prove that we are definitely not a white elephant, but have moved to being the crown jewel. Especially if one compares it with the Cape Town stadium whose costs run into the billions!

Over the past five years it has cost R200 million to run our stadium! In 2014 there were 40 field events, and interestingly enough 186 of these were non sport-related events. The success was attributed to the use of an Access Management Approach. In the past 5 years we hosted 4 test rugby matches! Ireland is booked for 2016, and we hope to obtain soccer - the question is, what makes the best economical spin offs?

Our stadium staff are all permanent staff and full time grounds men. All are in house employees. There is no outsourcing for maintenance!

Chantal then spoke about her pet project, being the North End Lake. This lake collects storm water and is in the process of being rehabilitated. There is no chemical dumping in the lake, as all the factories around the lake have undertaken to keep it clean. 33 % of the labour force used round the lake are SMME's. The Access Manage-ment Approach maximizes sustainability. Gabions, which are wire cages filled with stones, are used to filter the water coming in to the lake, and the use of Probiotics is another value added initiative. In the near future the lake will again become the mecca of water sports - swimming, canoeing and many other water sports!

Jayson Jordaan and Marinda Potgieter from PSG Wealth joined us on Thursday for the official handing over of the cheque of

R42 757.18 This is the profit from the recent PSG Wealth Golf Day which was

promised to us to use for our Rotary club’s projects. This is earmarked to be used as follows:

R30 000 for the Global Grant for Early Learning Inspiration; R5 000 towards various needs of the Dora Nginza Downs Syndrome
