Andrew Binning felt a bit left out as his children are younger than many of our grandchildren! We urgently need more younger members in our club to keep him company.

ANNIVERSARIES

It was very good to be together again for our first Rotary meeting of 2016. Pres. Denise said she had learned something from her 5 year old grandson from New Zealand. Each evening, around their dinner table, his family play a game, called "what made me happy today; what made me sad today; what did I learn today?" So, as we had no guest speaker, each member reflected on the joys and

the happiness they had experienced recently. President Denise learned that you can have either your grandchildren or a tidy house, but you cannot have both at the same time! Bertie Kommel told a special story that happened while he was on duty at the Tree of Joy. A lady saw his name badge and asked if he knew Eugene Kommel. He said she was his wife. Evidently Eugene had facilitated the adoption of a young child 22 years ago, and this young lady and her mother were the ones talking to Bertie! Doug Wills was happy to have all his grandchildren and great grandchildren, but he had to learn to be patient. One of Phil Gutche's grandchildren went to ‘big school’ for the first time. Phil’s message to all is that good health is the most important thing. John Sharwood also sent a grandson off to big school for the first time. Bishop Bethlehem was sad because of the potential closure of the schools in the northern areas. He had been involved in the meeting to try to resolve the issues, and said there was a long way to go yet. Mike Stapp said he was very happy to have another chance of happiness in life with Lucille by his side. Pat Catherine and Kas Kasongo were both surprised by an unex-pected visit of 2 Rotary exchange students whom they had hosted 6 years ago. Louise and Anna, from Brussels, are touring South Africa and wanted to catch up with their host parents. Many members indicated the most joyful was time spent with their grandchildren, but unfortunately we don't have space to record all the stories. Andrew Binning felt a bit left out as his children are younger than many of our grandchildren! We urgently

need more younger members in our club to keep him company.

January gives us a good start to the year, by making us all aware, not only of what Rotary is, but of what it does - for us, and for the greater community. This means our public image and public

relations both need to be healthy and strong. We should each have a Rotary story that is educational and inspiring.

Rotary history, information, and committee roles and responsibilities all fall under this banner. Each of us needs to have a deeper awareness of what it means to be a Rotarian, to strengthen our

interest in the club and to renew our own inspiration to be of service to humanity.

Member’s Matters

Tony Moors - with a little help from Josef Ritter - told us that:

‘The most precious jewels around your neck are the arms of your children’.

Thought for the Day

PP of the ex Inner Wheel Club, Terry Geere, sent a message to all in our club to 'have a fabulous New Year'.

We were pleased to see that Phil Gutsche’s shoul-der is on the mend again.

Congratulations to Pamella & Templeton Sipamla on their son’s inclusion in the South African Junior Cricket squad. Lutho is currently in Dubai, playing for SA.

Lucille McGahey,

Sponsored by Mike Stapp and

Seconded by Bertie Kommel

has applied for membership of the Rotary Club of Port Elizabeth.

We have all met Lucille over the past number of

months when she has been our guest at Rotary meetings.

Her vocation is

‘Medical Products’

If anyone has any problems with Lucille being accepted as a member into our club, please

speak to either Julia Gooden or Linsley Pudney.
