ITS MOVING DAY! “The real gift of gratitude is that the more grateful you are, the more present you become.” (Robert Holden)
Thursday 15th June, 2017 will be recorded as the day in history that our school finally had all of our classes back in their learning spaces. Yes TODAY Grade 3 and 4 began to move into Block B. Block B is the one of the final pieces in our “building jigsaw”. Block B houses Grade 3 Symons, Grade 3 Underlin, Grade 4 van Ryn, Grade 4 Wood and our Library. The children from these classes will commence their day in their “current spaces” and by day’s end they will have moved into their new spaces. The children, our staff and professional removalists will spend time moving resources and then acclimatising to their new spaces. This will enable us to have children in the best possible learning spaces. Have we “completed” all of the building actions? No, there are still other aspects that are planned for the remainder of 2017. These include:-
• We will be considering what additional furnishings we need for the Library and the Grade 3 and 4 classrooms.
• We are hopeful of having the Prep Awning in place for the beginning of Term 3.
• Block B (Grade 3/4 and Library) will have an awning near Bourke Street installed in the Term 3 holidays, ready for Term 4. We are also installing outdoor “wet areas” during the Term 3 break.
• Block G (Where Grade 3 S, Grade 3 U and Grade 4 W have been since last year) will become After School Care in the near future. We will retain one of these classrooms for our own use. Please note After School Care will NOT move immediately.
• The Oval will be dug up for re-seeding and a major overhaul in the Term 3 holidays. This means that our oval will be “out of use” for most or, depending on the weather, all of Term 4.
• The Playground Team have “a trial play space” planned for the area where the “Old Toilet Block” was. More information will be shared in the next month.
• The Board and Playground Team have begun work in planning for future play spaces in and around our school.

Our school should stop and celebrate this point in time. Careful and strategic planning, fantastic community support, system funding and patience have enabled the current and future children of Sacred Heart to arrive at a point in time that “positions” our children with exceptional learning spaces.
In early Term 4 we will take time out to give thanks to the many contributors to our building projects by way of an official blessing and opening BUT for now we should acknowledge our children for their capacity to accept their school has been intertwined with a building site for almost a year, our parent community for your patience and support of our school and our exceptional staff for their capacity to continue to provide the very best learning opportunities for the children of Sacred Heart.
“Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant.” (Robert Louis Stevenson)
“Two things define you: Your patience when you have nothing and your attitude when you have
everything.” (Imam Ali)

WHAT MATTERS MOST AT SACRED HEART An invitation to participate in a Parent Pillar Workshop
Late last year Matt Jones, past Principal of SHS, discussed with Adele and I his thoughts on Sacred Heart. We considered what were the most important things about our school? What were the things that are
irreplaceable? Long after we all are finished with our connection at SHS what would we want to remain?
In short “What matters most at SHS?”
Early this year we collected the thoughts of our staff at a Pupil Free Day in April. On Tuesday of this week a group of Grade 3 - 6 children shared their ideas.
We are now seeking feedback from parents.
Parents are invited to contribute their thoughts on Tuesday 27th June at 2pm or at 7.30pm.
TOILET ACCESS AFTER HOURS Student toilets are locked daily at approximately 3:15pm-3:30pm. There is a toilet located in the administration building, which is opened until 4:00pm daily.

PRINCIPAL’S MEETINGS Tasmanian Catholic Principals gather as a statewide group once a term. Our meetings are an opportunity to discuss and listen to a broad range of areas. Next week we will be focussing on the Archbishop’s Charter and in particular how we understand, reflect on and embed the charter at Sacred Heart. We will also be spending time reflecting and considering the potential impact of the recently released Federal Government proposed education funding changes. I will be leaving school on Wednesday afternoon 21st June and returning lunch time Friday 23rd June. Adele Murphy will be available for compliments or challenges.
NIJSSA CROSS COUNTRY On Tuesday 48 runners represented Sacred Heart at the NIJSSA Cross Country Carnival at Windsor Park. Under fine but cold conditions our children performed exceptionally well. Congratulations to each and every one of our runners for your efforts. Thanks to the parents who assisted with the “running of” the carnival, thanks to the parents who supported our team.
Our children were a credit to our school because of their exceptional attitudes, sportsmanship and commitment to our “team culture”. Congratulations to all team members for your contributions towards our final overall team placing of FIRST amongst nine schools.
Sacred Heart were responsible for convening the carnival again in 2017. This meant that our school had many extra helpers supporting us on the day. Thanks to Russell Hayward, Phil Illingworth, Tyler Williams, Matt Zegveld and Natasha Millar.
Thanks to Anna Davie, John Anderson and Adele Murphy for assisting the children at 8am training for the last 6 weeks. Thanks to the children for making the time and effort to train. Thanks to parents for supporting your children by bringing them to training and supporting your child.
Finally a very big thanks to John Anderson for organising an outstanding carnival. Carnivals don’t just happen, they require people like Mr Anderson to devote “huge amounts of time and preparation” to ensuring the day is a success. Our school and the NIJSSA is indebted to Mr Anderson.
SACRED HEART FEAST DAY Next Friday 23rd June is the feast day of Sacred Heart. We look forward to celebrating the “birthday” of our school. Parents are welcome to join us for Mass at the Church of the Apostles at 10am.
