From the Principal’s Desk... April 2, 2018

Thank you for attending Parent/Teacher conferences last Friday. This year has flown by

and it is hard to believe that summer will be here soon.

The staff and I are really looking forward to the Car Rally Spring Fundraiser this coming

Saturday. It is going to be a great evening! I appreciate all the hard work that is being

done to provide our families with a fun event that raises money for the school. Funds

raised will be going towards our technology programs, updating our library into a learning

center and additional building security measures.

State Standardized testing has begun! All of our 3rd through 8th graders are taking the

CMAS English Language and Math tests. Additionally, our 5th and 8th graders will be tak-

ing the CMAS Science test. We are excited for the opportunity to let our students show the

state how smart they are!

There are so many exciting events coming! Please be sure and read information coming

from your children’s teachers about events such as Bear Express in 1st grade, Wax Museum

in 3rd, and our Annual S.T.E.A.M. Fair!

Mark your calendars for the fun upcoming school events. April 24th is our Band, Orches-

tra, Ukelele and Bucket Drumming Concert! May 4th, 5th and 6th is play weekend. Stu-

dents from all grades will be performing Shrek Jr. May 11th is Muffins for Mom and ele-

mentary field day. Our annual S.T.E.A.M. fair is on May 14th. This is a great day to see

all the exciting projects the students have been working on. Middle School field day at

Elitch is on May 18th. Finally, 8th grade graduation will be the evening of May 24th and our

annual Kindergarten Blue Ribbon Continuation ceremony on May 25th.

C2E’s Wish Week April 23 - April 27

What is wish week?

Wish Week is a week long fundraiser for the Make a Wish Foundation.

How does it work? There will be a jar in every homeroom and students can bring $1 to dress down each day throughout the week of April 23 - April 27 and $2 to a wear hat on Friday!

Elementary, your homeroom teachers will keep track of your dress down days and collect your money. If your homeroom collects at least $250, your class gets to skip the spelling test for that week.

For middle school, your first hour teachers will collect your dress down and hat money. You can also pay $10 for a homework pass directly to the teacher you choose. You can buy one pass per subject, and the teachers can choose assignments that the homework passes can and can’t be used on.

Where does the money go?

All of the money collected will be donated to The Make a Wish Foundation.

Are additional donations welcome?

Spare change and any additional donations are welcome...so don’t forget to look under couch cushions for change and help donate during Wish Week!

Thank you C2E for being a part of making a child’s wish come true!

Interested in serving on the

SAC committee?

There will be 1 Position Open on SAC for the 2018-2019 School

Year:

What does the SAC do? SAC works with C2E administration to adopt the Unified Improvement Plan (UIP) that addresses goals and objectives for improvements in education at C2E.

SAC reviews the school’s testing data (ie: I-Ready and PARCC) to help offer recommendations to the C2E Administration for ways to keep striving for excellence in all of the core fundamental educa-tional elements of reading, math, writing, science and technology.

SAC also focuses on safety at and around the school! Safety is a top priority for administration and parents.

Who is the School Accountability Committee (SAC)? The SAC is a committee comprised of seven voting members: three elected parent representatives, one PVA parent representative, our principal or de-signee, one teacher representative and one community representative.

When do we meet? The SAC meets one morning a month at 8:00 am. All meetings are open forum.

There will be (1) Parent Vacancy for the 2018/2019 School Year and elections will be held this Spring. Parents who are interested need to complete the “Letter of Intent to Run” and either submit it to the front office or email it to [email protected].

We will be voting in our new members at our next meeting May 11, 2018 at 8:00am in the C2E Conference Room.

The “Letter of Intent to Run” must be submitted to the SAC on or before the end of business day May 4th, 2018. Next Meeting: May 11th, 2018 at 8am in the C2E Conference Room.

A NOTE FROM YOUR PVA BOARD: Can you believe the end of this school year is less than two months away? The PVA is hard at work planning events for the remainder of the year and looking ahead to next year’s calendar. We’re also preparing for PVA Elections at the end of this month (more information about that in the PVA Elections article later in this news-letter). If you would like to be considered for a position on the PVA Board or if you have any questions about Board or event chair positions, please contact us at [email protected]. Parent involvement is crucial to the success of your children’s educations. And it’s also fun and a great way to get to know other families at C2E! See the Get Involved page on the PVA website for a list of upcoming events with dates, links to contact chairpersons, and signup links. And read on in this newsletter for information about PVA Elections later this month. It’s not too late to roll up your sleeves and get involved!

SPIRIT WEAR DAYS: Friday, April 6th and Friday, May 4th It may not feel like it now, but Spring is on its way! Make sure you are prepared for warmer weather with short-sleeved Spirit Gear from Threaded Ink in Parker. On Spirit Wear Days at C2E, students may wear spirit wear tops (Mammoth March t-shirts, school sports jerseys) with uniform bottoms.

KINDERGARTEN BUDDY DAY

Friday, April 13th, 1:00 - 2:30 pm Kindergarten Buddy Day is fast approaching, and kindergarten parents are encouraged to get involved. This is a great way to welcome next year’s kindies and their families to Challenge to Excellence. This year we will have a STEM day with a science-themed craft, stories, and snack. If you have questions or wish to volunteer, please contact the event chair, Loveleena Rana at [email protected].

PVA ELECTIONS:

Intent to Run forms due Friday, April 6th Elections Friday, April 27th By virtue of having a student at C2E, all parents already are part of the PVA. But your involvement and support – attending PVA meetings, planning and volunteering at events, participating in our two major fundraisers each year – is critical to our school’s success. C2E needs your help to provide the best equipment and opportunities for its students.

Change is Good!

Several existing board members will not be running again for the 2018/19 school year, which means opportunities for fresh faces and new ideas. Elections will be held on Friday, April 27th, 2018, and the following positions are up for election:

The meeting will be held on Thursday, May 17th, in C2E’s Library, at 8:00 am, right after drop off. We promise to wrap it up in about an hour. All parents are welcome. And don’t forget that, by attending a meeting, you’re logging volunteer hours! See you there!

Friday, May 25th, 12:00 - 8:00 pm Bring your family and friends to celebrate the end of the school year and the arrival of summer break at Swirls Frozen Yogurt on Mainstreet in Parker. Join fellow C2E families for some yummy frozen treats and a catch-up. If you’re unable to stay, take some to go!

Friday, May 25th is a half day at C2E with a noon dismissal for all students, so head over to Swirls between 12:00 and 8:00 pm to celebrate! A percentage of the proceeds will come back to C2E. Just let the cashier know you’re with C2E so our school gets credit. Support this local business so they can support us, and don’t forget to share with family, friends, and neighbors too so we earn more $$$ for our school!
