Every age has its dangers and uncertainties and people respond to those dangers and uncertainties in different ways. There are those who choose to ignore them, not to look at them and make believe that they do not exist. During World War II there were people and even some nations who knew about the Holocaust but chose not to speak about it or respond to it. Sometimes we
all ignore uncertainty and danger in the hope that it will go away and leave us alone. Others respond to danger and uncertainty with a sense of panic and anxiety, wanting to escape and run away. While others confront the danger and uncertainty directly trying to take control and overcome it.
In the second reading for this Sunday from the First Letter of Paul to the Thessalonians, we are told: “When people are saying ‘Peace and security’, then sudden disaster comes upon them…” Paul is speaking about the end of time and the second coming of Christ, he is speaking of the need to be alert and ready for Christ’s coming which will be sud-den. However, he is also speaking about something else, about seeking peace and se-curity in the people and things of this world rather than in God and God’s Providence. We are being told that when we choose to seek peace and security in this world and what it offers then that will always lead to disaster and disappointment. As followers of Jesus Christ, the only way that we can respond to the dangers and uncertainties of this world is to work as hard as we can and place all our trust in God’s loving plan. We are not called to be complacent but awake and ready to do whatever God calls upon us to do, to respond in whatever way the Gospel of Jesus Christ calls us to respond. Ultimately, we work as hard as we can and then leave everything else in God’s hands!

En Español
Cada edad tiene sus peligros e incertidumbres y la gente re-sponde a esos peligros e incertidumbres de diferentes mane-ras. Hay quienes eligen ignorarlos, no mirarlos y hacer creer que no existen. Durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial hubo personas e incluso algunas naciones que conocían el Holocausto, pero decidieron no hablar sobre él ni responder a él. A veces todos ignoramos la incertidumbre y el peligro con la esperanza de que desaparezca y nos deje en paz. Otros responden al peli-gro y la incertidumbre con una sensación de pánico y ansiedad, queriendo escapar y escapar. Mientras que otros enfrentan el peligro y la incertidumbre directamente tratando de tomar el control y superarlo.
En la segunda lectura de este domingo de la Primera Carta de Pablo a los Tesalonicenses, se nos dice: “Cuando la gente dice ‘Paz y seguridad’, entonces viene un desastre repentino sobre ellos ...” Pablo está hablando sobre el fin de los tiempos y el se-gunda venida de Cristo, él está hablando de la necesidad de es-tar alerta y listo para la venida de Cristo, que será repentino. Se nos dice que cuando elegimos buscar la paz y la seguridad en este mundo y lo que ofrece, eso siempre nos llevará al desastre y la desilusión. Como seguidores de Jesucristo, la única forma en que pode-mos responder a los peligros e incertidumbres de este mundo es trabajar tan duro como podamos y poner toda nuestra con-fianza en el plan amoroso de Dios. No estamos llamados a ser complacientes, sino a estar despiertos y listos para hacer lo que Dios nos pida que hagamos, para responder de cualquier man-era que el Evangelio de Jesucristo nos llame a responder. ¡En definitiva, trabajamos tan duro como podamos y luego dejamos todo lo demás en manos de Dios!
Feliz Día de Acción de Gracias

No hay mejor manera de celebrar el Día de Acción de Gracias que unirse como una comunidad para la Eucaristía. La colección en esa misa se le dará a San Vicente de Paúl para ayudar a los pobres de nuestra comu-nidad. En nombre de nuestra Comunidad redentorista, personal parroquial y consejo pastoral, les deseamos un muy feliz Día de Acción de Gracias: “¡Démosle gracias al Señor nuestro Dios!”
