ECONOMY – PLANNING YOUR ENERGY. While you are relaxing your reliable Fronius inverter is

busy channelling the energy produced in your modules into your mains supply.

A FRONIUS IG is a tailor-made inverter – neither too large nor too small and with all the optional extras you

could possibly ask for.

Efficiency is optimised using state-of-the-art inverter technology and the master-slave operational mode.

Even under conditions of minimal solar radiation, the FRONIUS IG maximises efficiency and maintains this

right up to its peak capacity.

Module selection and system planning are therefore extremely flexible. The FRONIUS IG is available either in

a designer housing unit for indoor installation or an all-weather housing unit for outdoors.

The option of networking the unit with data recording and data transfer hardware components and the

possibility of adding a modem connection for text messaging functions makes the FRONIUS IG the inverter

of the future.

With a weight of only 9 kg or 16 kg, depending on the power output, installation is both easy and flexible.

The use of a system of plug-in cards makes it possible to carry out rapid on-site servicing and makes

upgrading simple – saving you both time and money.

The FRONIUS IG solar inverter concept incorporates numerous innovative features.

The FRONIUS IG is a “custom-made inverter” that is set-up and fine-tuned to meet your exact needs.

Combinable power stages meet your every system requirement regardless of which module you use or what

output you generate. A wide input voltage range of 150 to 500 V for all models makes it possible to obtain a

flexible system dimensioning. You can also choose between indoor and outdoor installation – everything is

possible.

High frequency technology, the use of the phase shift technology and a high performance processor ensure

the competent management of high currents, minimise switching losses and guarantee extremely rapid

control processes. These technologies have been incorporated in order to maximise your energy efficiency.

A master-slave operational mode makes it possible for one inverter to work with two or more power stages

(from 3.5 kW) thereby improving efficiency even further. The galvanic insulation in the FRONIUS IG optimally

protects both your photovoltaic system and your household.

Simple installation and connection are natural elements of the FRONIUS IG overall concept. The new data

communication functions based on plug-in cards make data transfer particularly easy. Upgrades and add-ons

for your FRONIUS IG can be installed in the unit in seconds using cards (e.g. like a graphic card in a PC).

Whether it’s a data-logger connected to a modem, a sensor card or a large-screen display control unit, every

function is 100% operational immediately after installation.

In order to maximise the energy savings obtained from your solar power stage, you have the option of being

informed in the event of a failure.

own electricity is a privilege.

The green light-emitting diode next to the display on your FRONIUS IG tells you that the inverter is

functioning perfectly. By pressing a button of your choice you can turn on the orange backlight thereby

making the unit easy to use even in the darker corners of your home.

Let’s start! Simply follow the menu-driven options similar to those on a mobile phone. These enable you to

view all the important operational parameters. There’s no need for a dictionary since the symbols clearly

indicate what the values shown refer to. If you want to find out the peak power output the system reached

during the day or how much money you have saved either today, this year or since purchasing the unit,

no problem. Your FRONIUS IG has all the answers at the push of a button.

By means of sensors that read the irradiation intensity and external temperature you can exactly control your

energy yield. In addition, you can even set up a miniature weather station. Other sensors send the values

read on to a data recorder or large-screen display. Therefore your inverter can immediately inform you of

what is going on weatherwise and what impact this is having on your energy production.

Smaller - lighter – better. This trend also applies to the FRONIUS IG series - and that’s an advantage for you

and the environment.

Both energy production and energy saving are our top priorities. The energy consumption involved in the

production of our new inverters has been reduced considerably. The FRONIUS IG series uses over 80% less

aluminium than other conventional units on the market with the same output level. Aluminium is particularly

energy-intensive during pre-production stages.

Lightweight units mean not only that the units are easier to install, but also lower transportation costs and

CO2 emissions. The FRONIUS IG series models weigh only a quarter as much as comparable products.

Our inverter series contains numerous innovative details some of which are visible on the display.

The instrument panel, for example, is backlit with a highly efficient LED that uses 80% less energy than other

units available on the market. We are sure you’ll agree that real environmental concern has to be put into

practice in all aspects of life.

Instead of wasting valuable energy in the form of heat through switching losses, the first use of the phase

shift process has maximised the efficiency of our inverters. This in turn means more electricity generated and

thus higher savings with your photovoltaic system.

Recyclable and resource-sensitive materials have been used for the packaging and the housing units of the

FRONIUS IG series. All the plastic, for example, can be melted down and reused. In addition, Fronius will

also accept the return of old units at the end of their life cycle in order to ensure that they are professionally

recycled.

What your FRONIUS IG doesfor you...

The real innovation in the FRONIUS IG lies in its novel concept. The inverter

series is designed in such a way that connection area and the power stage, i.e.

the heart of the system, are completely separated from each other.

The desired power level can be simply determined using a building block

principle with which the required number of power stages are combined.

This enables pv-systems from 1 – 40 kWp in size.

All FRONIUS IG inverters have been set up to operate within the same input

voltage range of 150 – 500 V. Up to two power stages can be integrated in the

housing unit of each FRONIUS IG.

Technical highlights:

A SMALL TRANSFORMER WITH HIGH OUTPUT.The power stage is based on the use of high frequency (HF) technology.

The HF transformer is extremely compact and yet capable of transforming

considerable power. The innovative phase shift process used in the FRONIUS

IG series also minimises switching losses thereby ensuring a high degree of

both efficiency and flexibility in terms of the units’ capacity.

AUTOMATIC VARIATION OF OPERATING LEVEL BASEDON MASTER–SLAVE OPERATIONAL MODE. (FRONIUS IG 40+60)

The power stages have been laid out to ensure optimal efficiency even under

low power loads. A high-tech control process makes sure that only as many

power elements are switched on as are necessary for the maximum energy

yield and no more. The remaining elements are fully isolated from the mains

and therefore do not use any energy. In order to ensure uniform use of the

power stages, every time the unit is switched on different power stages are

powered up first. A common control unit can co-ordinate up to 12 elements.

REGULATED FORCED VENTILATION. FRONIUS IG solar

inverters are equipped with a top-of-the-range cooling fan making it possible

to use an extremely small heat sink which is mounted directly on the board.

20 years experience with forced ventilation brings a number of advantages.

Simple maintenance, reduced levels of so-called grey energy and a notable

reduction in weight mean savings both for the environment and your wallet.

The cooling fan is only switched on when needed thereby not using any

energy while the temperature of the power stage semiconductors is low.

Because you want to be flexible...

When you buy a FRONIUS IG inverter you don’t have to have an “off the peg”

model. You can have your unit “tailor-made” to meet your specific needs. Our

standard models are intended solely to simplify matters. Custom-make your

optimal unit from the following variations:

FIRST DECIDE ON YOUR PREFERRED FRONIUS IGHOUSING UNIT. You can choose between designer housing units for

installation either indoors or weatherproof ones for outdoors. For certain special

applications it may be advisable to mount the inverter outdoors near the

modules. The inverter offers all the conventional advantages of Fronius quality

plus a full range of data communication options.

THEN IT’S A QUESTION OF OUTPUT AND VOLTAGE.Whatever overall concept you’re planning, the FRONIUS IG series fits in. The

broad input voltage range of all our inverters makes it possible to use high

voltage modules based on thin film technology and both monocrystalline and

polycrystalline silicon modules. The connection of 10 – 20 modules in each

string ensures the optimal use of the roof space without limiting architectural

options.

THEN CHOOSE YOUR DATA COMMUNICATION OPTIONS.Get the best out of your FRONIUS IG – it’s also equipped to exploit future

developments in the field of data communication. Years from now you will be

able to install new boards for monitoring the performance of your system and

determine new operating parameters. The Internet will also grow in importance

in this field in the coming years.

Data communication is based on a bus system basis. The RS 485 data transfer

makes it possible to use up to 1,000 m of cable between individual

components.

THEN SELECT YOUR PREFERRED DISPLAY MENU.The display of the FRONIUS IG series models is your means of communication

with the entire photovoltaic system. This is how you decide which data you

want access to. You can limit the display to the basic values and always just let

it display the most important parameters. If you are more technically minded

you can be informed about the mains impedance, mains frequency and monitor

the temperature of components. It’s up to you.

When your FRONIUS IG is delivered...

Your FRONIUS IG has numerous features which make its installation extremely

simple and convenient.

MOUNTING FRAME. In order to make installation easy all FRONIUS IG

inverters come with an additional mounting frame which is first mounted on the

wall. Now it is simple to fit in the inverter unit. This avoids possible damage and

makes it possible to take down the unit easily at a later stage for any upgrades

or modifications. This leads to a considerable reduction in installation time.

CONNECTOR. The connector provided depends on the recommendation

of your installer and the features of your particular unit. Simple inlets, MC®

plugs made by Multi-Contact for up to 5 strings and lockable AC plugs make it

possible to choose from a wide range of connection variations. The installation

time of the inverter can be further shortened if the connectors are factory fitted.

START-UP. No settings need to be made on the unit before switching it on

for the first time. The safety settings relevant to your country have already been

programmed.

All ordered options are also ready for operation. You will immediately become

familiar with the display making it easy to select your preferred settings and

options. In order to install add-ons or upgrades, you only need to remove one

cover and slot in the relevant board. A few minutes are all it takes.

How to communicate with your FRONIUS IG...

FRONIUS “LOCALNET” – THE LINGUA FRANCA. FRONIUS “LocalNet” is a data communication

system developed in-house over many years noted for its flexibility and stability. Once connected via the RS 485

interface it becomes possible to transfer large volumes of data across long distances without problems. All the

settings on the inverter as well as on other LocalNet components can be conveniently and easily set from a PC.

The connection of the components takes only seconds with a standardised cable

and plug.

PLUG & PLAY WITH PLUG-IN CARDS. Data communication

components are still available either as external units or as simple plug-in cards

which are integrated into the FRONIUS IG. In order to install new boards or

upgrades simply remove the bottom cover of the housing unit and install the

board in the relevant slot. The newly installed options are immediately

operational. You can either order the extras you want or add them later.

As ever, user friendliness comes as standard with a FRONIUS IG.

Better informed:

DATA-LOGGER WITH INTEGRATED MODEM FUNCTION.The data-logger is responsible for the fully automatic data storage of the system

parameters and can serve up to 100 inverters. It is equipped with 2 interfaces to

which PC and/or modem can be connected making it possible to receive

readings and maintain the system remotely. The modem is used to transfer the

data. With this feature your FRONIUS IG will also independently send a text

message to your mobile phone via the telephone line.

LARGE-SCREEN DISPLAY CONTROL UNIT. This unit converts

the data on the FRONIUS LocalNet to the standard format used by the large-

screen display. Different sizes and variations of large-screen displays can be

connected to the board. For maximum convenience you can do the configuration

on the PC using the LocalNet.

SENSOR BOARDS. Sensor boards make it possible to closely monitor

your energy yield. Using one you will be constantly informed about current

irradiation data and can check whether the system is operating to your

requirements.

Sensor boards even enable you to set up your own mini weather station.

Temperature and irradiation sensors can be attached to give you immediate

information regarding the day’s peak temperature or irradiated power per square

metre. The readings can either be monitored on the inverter or from a connected

PC. The data-logger also stores this information.

The different output classes of the FRONIUS

IG models have been selected to form a logical

and consistent series.

With the FRONIUS IG 15, 20, 30, 40 and 60

you can configure your system with installed

power from 1 – 6,1 kWp.

The broad voltage range (150 to 500 V for all

models) enables you a great deal of freedom

when it comes to the modular technology

used.

You can build exactly the FRONIUS IG system

you want, incorporating either state-of-the-art

modules based on thin film technology or tried

and tested silicon modules.

Several 100 kW of power can be achieved

though the use of the appropriate number of

FRONIUS IG units. It is also possible to

combine different FRONIUS IG models.
