NHS Scotland

• Request from NICE to solve DRM problem
• Three-year deal from 2015-18 with fixed number of units per year included
within licence fee
• Online portal to provide access to monthly usage data

CLA
• Outsourced digitisation and copyright-fee-paid content (mainly books)

• Confusion over DRM
• Concerns with quality of scanned content
• Digitised content had to be deleted by BL

• New arrangement with British Library for Enhanced Higher Education
Supply Service (EHESS)
• HEIs will sign new supply agreement with CLA
• Service begins 1 August 2015
• Pay CLA monthly or in advance (for reduced service charge)
• HEIs can access CLA portal to check account status

• High quality scans with no increase in price
• BL will supply digital copies to CLA for future use

What is the Digital Content Store?
• A centralised, secure, CLA-operated content
store for HEIs to store digital copies created
under the licence, rather than on individual
institutions’ repositories
• It will be included in the CLA annual licence
fee for HEIs and will remove the need for
census reporting
• It will be a platform for future CLA products
and services
Workflow Solutions: DCS
User workflow
HEIs using the DCS will no longer need to:
• Provide census reports to CLA
• Subscribe to third party software used to administer CLA census
reporting
• Check if an existing scan is required for the next academic year
(weeding)
• Duplicate scanning across the sector
• Seek coursepack permissions from multiple sources
• Digitise works themselves (if they do not wish to)
