Principal’s Report 2017 Prep Parent Information Night The transition program for 2017 prep children and families has been very well attended with the fifth and final session taking place Tuesday 29th November.

Thank you to the staff who provided a wonderful learning opportunity: Ms Amy Tinetti, the Transition Coordinator, and the Prep team, Juz de Bruyn and Olivia Fourniotis. Specialist teachers, Mrs Leonie Sonnberger, Ms Rosy Eppinger, Mrs Mandy Zent, Ms Tania Casonata Ms Lisa Oliver and Mr David Jenkins have also worked very hard to provide an outstanding transition program.

At 7.15pm on Tuesday we held the Parent Information night for parents of students commencing in prep next year. There was very good attendance and an excellent presentation for parents. A big thankyou to Fara and the team form Youth Leadership Victoria OHSC for providing fun activities for the children they cared for while the presentation was on.

At the Transition session, children worked with their buddy bear. The photo below is of some of the 2017 Preps holding their buddy bears which will be waiting for them when they come back to school next year.

School Council & Report Thank you very much to all the School Council members for their work and commitment once again on the GHPS School Council this year. The School Council works collaboratively and displays much enthusiasm and care to ensuring we are all providing the best opportunities for the students at GHPS. I am so very grateful for this wonderful and

collaborative partnership and thank all members for their contribution.

Thank you very much to the President Craig Matthews for his amazing eye for detail and providing the newsletter communication for parents about what has taken place at Council. Craig has included a report in the newsletter, which will be the last one from Council for 2016.

2016 Monitoring of Annual Implementation Plan (AIP): for Improving Student Outcomes The Leadership Team together with Innovation and Development Leaders has reviewed the 12-month progress against success criteria and /or targets for:

1. Achievement 2. Engagement 3. Wellbeing 4. Productivity

Much of this evaluation informed the information for the School Review but will be further reflected upon with the Senior Education Improvement Leader (SEIL) Stuart Andrews on Thursday 1st December. After analysing past achievement we will establish a 2017 AIP in the new format, with goals and Key Improvement Strategies linked to 1 or 2 key Framework Improvement Student Outcomes (FISO) initiatives.

The AIP Monitoring section elaborates on how key improvement strategies and other significant projects have been put into operation and evaluated. Next, the 2017 AIP will be drafted by 31 December 2016 and the final AIP will be endorsed by School Council and Senior Education Improvement Leader by the end of February next year.

2017 Capital Works Funding & Planning The PREP meeting for the 2017 Capital Works Program was held on Wednesday in the city where Ms Amy Tinetti and I met with DET representatives, Pieter, Darren and Daniel, also architect Enza from Angelucci Architects.

Following our PREP meeting and confirmation from Daniel to proceed on to Working Drawings in preparation for Tender, Enza will indicate when she will have our Architectural Detailed documentation completed for 2017.

Workforce Planning and Staffing Decisions about work force planning and classes is well underway and I am endeavoring to have this more confirmed by the next newsletter. The challenge is forecasting numbers as there has been a higher than predicted number of families who have indicated they will be transferring/moving house.

If parents are yet to notify the Office that their child will be moving from GHPS in 2017, can they please do so this week.

GPA Meeting The next meeting is Friday 9th December at 2.15pm in the Activities Centre on the West Site. All welcome.

Thank you also to GPA for arranging the Bunnings BBQ on Sunday 4th December at the Moorabbin Store and the Christmas Raffle and Hamper.

Libby Alessi Principal ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

School Council Report School Council met on Monday the 28th of November for the final time for 2016.

A summary of key items presented and discussed were;

Enrolments for 2017 are very healthy although there are a number of current families transitioning out of the school due to relocation etc.

Prep transition program has gone very well with positive feedback from new families and students.

Capital Works 2017 planning is now full steam ahead with the hope that works can be completed in the 1st half of the year.

2017 fete planning starts soon. GPA is putting an early call out to anyone in the community who may be interested in helping in any way.

Bunnings BBQ this coming Sunday 4th December at Bunnings Moorabbin, Warrigal Road.

End of year family night on Tuesday 6th December with GPA providing food options etc. Fingers crossed the weather is kind as it’s always a fun night.

Lease for new Chromebooks for the East Site, which will leverage Google Apps as the primary educational tool, has been approved. This will free up iPad mini’s to be transferred across to the West Site.

2 important policies; Student Engagement & Inclusion, and Staff Conduct & Wellbeing, were given a final review and were ratified by School Council.

Working bee on November 6th was well attended and a great success.

A very special thank you to Ian Parsons and Rosy Eppinger, both of whom leave GHPS this year, for their many many years of hard work at these events.

Several key school measurement reports were presented to School Council. These demonstrate the school’s ongoing high achievement against key criteria, which again represents and re-enforces what a fantastic learning and community environment the school continues to be.

I would like to sincerely thank all of the members of the School Council, Mrs Alessi and her wonderful team, and the wider school community in their dedication and assistance in helping to make 2016 another successful one for GHPS.

If there is any issue any member of the school community would like to raise with School Council, please email [email protected]

Waratah Bay Camp here I come! This is going to be awesome! I hope I am with Dash, Nick, Alex and Daniel M. Yay, we are here. This bag is heavy. “Here, let me help you with that”. Thanks Jeremy. “OK, everyone my name is Nick. I will be your host for the camp. Can you please go into the room over there? Now I will be telling you who you will be with in the cabins”. Most of my friends were in my cabin. Sam 3T

I woke up excited because today was the day I have been waiting for. Today, 16th November, was my first ever camp.

I had already packed for camp so I grabbed my suitcase, my backpack and my pillow and then I jumped in the car and off we went. When we got to school I scrambled out of the car and gave my mum a big hug and said I would to miss her.

Then I scampered off to find Imogen for the bus trip. Vroom vroom went the bus. Off to camp we go! I heard someone cry as we began our long journey to our fantastic camp.

Our bus trip was three hours long but I’m not going to explain to you what I did in those 3 hours. When we finally got there, I was so tired I flopped down on my bunk when I got it.

The next day, when we got up, we went to breakfast. Then we got on to the real activities. My favourite one was the Flying Fish, a giant swing, but all the others were so hard. Some of the activities we did at camp were the Talent Show and the Disco.

And so, that was my first camp ever. Dakota 3S

OMG! I popped out of bed. I am so excited. I looked at the time and it was nearly 5.30am. I woke my mum up. She woke up along with my dad and we all got ready really quickly, including my little sister. After a while we left home. All my luggage was heavy so my mum helped me the rest of the way. When I got to the junior side, I saw all my friends. The bus was kind of delayed.

Then the bus came and everyone hopped on. We had a very long trip. I had a little sleep. It was so refreshing. When we got to camp we had lunch. After lunch they told us the people in our bunk room.

Then we started our activities. I was exhausted from the long trip. We did so many activities like the Flying Fish and the ropes course. The food was very good, so were the bunk rooms.

We were split up into 6 groups for the activities. I was in Sharks. I had so much fun. Ritika 3S

Make Our School 40km/h - Save Lives

Sign the Petition now!! The Glen Eira College community have been campaigning for VicRoads to urgently install variable electronic speed signage at the school pedestrian crossing on Booran Rd to make the lights more visible to drivers and to extend the 40km/h speed limit through the school day.

There have been a number of near misses at this crossing and we are very worried about the safety of our children using the crossing. Please sign the petition to show your support for the safety of Glen Eira College students. If you would like to come and celebrate with us, we would love to see you there, so please collect a yellow invitation at the (office/Church porches/meeting place). If you would like to help with the Christmas Dinner, please fill out a green form, also available at the (office/Church porches/meeting place), and return it to St. Anthony’s, 74 Grange Road, Glen Huntly 3163. We invite everyone to please join us in praying for the success of the Dinner. If you would like more information, please ring Gwen Fitzgerald on 9569 2099.
