The Review Team welcomed parents to the Focus group meeting which was held in the WW Hall last week. The group, led by Tony Ross the reviewer, discussed their experiences at GHPS and what had brought them to our school. The conversation was very interesting with some highly positive and insightful responses. These ranged across a number of issues with common and varied responses. Participants were provided with a data analysis of the 2013-16 School Strategic Plan ~ 3 Goals, 6 related targets. Student Learning: 1 Goal and 3 Targets Student Engagement and Wellbeing: 1Goal and 2 Targets Student Pathways and Transitions: 1 Goal and 1 Target During the Panel discussions, we established how we achieved the targets and what if any unfinished work should be considered for inclusion in the new plan. Thanks to the Digital Learning Leaders, Mr John Jacobs and Ms Claire Piscioneri together with Ms Amy Tinetti, we had the Questions for the Parent Survey for the Focus Group able to be read through the QR code and the results collated. These were shared with staff and the Publicity and Marketing Committee and will inform the Reviewer’s Report. We greatly appreciated the School Council President, Craig Matthews attending together with the following parents: Nicole Verginis, Cassandra David- Shields, Anna Corbould, Saritha Thirumala, Diva Joy, Vedhalakshmi, R. Venmani, Shan Jayaweera, Melanie Birkby, Lu Shaw, Kathryn Dench, Priya Krishnappa, Padima A, Fiona Davey, Tara and Yvonne Balfour. Many thanks also for the delicious morning tea which GPA organized and served. It added a very nice touch to the proceedings. The Panel was treated to a presentation by the School Captains, Tess and Jashith. They took a Student Led Tour and presented a powerpoint, both speaking extremely well and providing a highly effective insight into GHPS. They were very proud of our school and I felt very proud of them. What fabulous ambassador’s they are for GHPS. The process continued this week with the Panel Day being undertaken on Tuesday, 18 th October where we were further treated to hearing the views of some of our students’ from Grades 4, 5 and 6. They met with the Panel in the Library and Tony led an interesting Q & A discussion about what it was like to be a student at GHPS. The answers were thoughtful and candid and fully engaged the Panel. The students ranged from those who had started here at Prep and across various levels. Thank you to: Pranitha 4/5A, Rohana and James, 4/5K, Freya, Pratham and Evelyn, 4/5P, Hannah, Bianca WS, Jashith, Tess and Leto, 6J. The Reviewer’s report, which will be drafted, will describe an agreed view on the outcomes of the school’s achievement and consider further information which has informed the writing of the Pre- Review School Self Evaluation Report. The review outcomes provide the basis for school strategic directions for the 2017 – 2020 Strategic Plan. Whilst this will take a few weeks, what the Reviewer did say in his closing summary was that GHPS is a very, very good school and is performing in the top 10% in the state. This was unanimously agreed to by the whole panel which is highly satisfying and obviously beneficial for our students. Thank you to all the Leadership team: Mrs Eugenia Sassos, Ms Amy Tinetti, Mr David Jenkins, Mr John Jacobs and Mr Bill Manuel who have contributed so extensively and prepared so much documentation for the Review.

Principal Report School Review: Setting the Future Directions for Glen Huntly P.S.

They took a Student Led Tour and presented a powerpoint, both speaking extremely well and providing a highly effective insight into GHPS. They were very proud of our school and I felt very proud of them. What fabulous ambassador’s

they are for GHPS.

The process continued this week with the Panel Day being undertaken on Tuesday, 18th October where we were further treated to hearing the views of some of our students’ from Grades 4, 5 and 6.

Additional members of the Literacy, Numeracy and Wellbeing teams also attended to discuss what we do at GHPS and I would like to thank all these staff for their valuable input. Finally, but not least of all, the entire staff at GHPS work very hard and are so dedicated in their work to provide the best education they possibly can for our students. The work that has been prepared will benefit all GHPS staff, students and the community and ensure we keep striving to improve on what we do wherever we can.

We talked about all of the fabulous features our school has.

The reviewers were very impressed and were keen to ask questions. The open learning space was a big improvement for our school, the reviewers were interested in the open learning space especially because of its modern touch on the school and the new and improved way of learning.

At the end of the tour we provided a PowerPoint presentation about our wonderful school. We focus on students’ responses from the survey we did earlier in

the year. The reviewers gave us feedback about our tour and presentation and we are very proud to say that it is all positive.

We would like to thank Mr Jacobs, Mrs Alessi and Mr Jenkins for the opportunity to test ourselves. Thank you Tess and Jashith 6J

Jump Rope for Heart On Friday the 14th of October we held our Jump Rope for Heart program, which helps raise awareness and money for the Heart Foundation. It was a very successful program and a big thank-you too all the teachers for being flexible with your time to help out with the program.

So far we have raised close to $500 which is a great effort. The money raised goes towards fighting heart disease and also healthy living awareness to keep healthy, active lifestyles. Please keep raising money for this great program.

A very special mention to Freya 4/5P, who has raised $153.00 and Imogen 3S, who has raised $124.00. Fantastic work. Paul Hanna Sport/PE

Socceroos Report “Mr J where are our seats?” Complained a few of the 16 chosen 6J students at the Australia v Japan competitive soccer match held at Etihad stadium. “We've been searching for ages”, I added. Finally, we reached our seats and ventured out to find some extremely overpriced junk food, the line was super long but it was totally…. kind of, worth it.

Rewind 2 or so hours

“I'm SOOO excited!” Remarked almost all 16 of us patiently waiting for the 5:05 train departing at Glen Huntly station headed to southern cross. Luckily the train was mostly empty so there was enough room for all 16 of us, Mr Jacobs, Mr manual and some family, including mine. It took about half an hour on the train and finally we were headed toward the Etihad Stadium. We walked around the MASSIVE line of schools and soccer clubs and joined what we thought was the back of the line but after some more waiting, it turned out to be the front of the line.

Finally, the wait was over. They opened the gates and we began our journey down to the grounds, ready to march around. A little more waiting and it was time. The staff escorted us up the giant ramp onto the soccer field. It wasn't very busy with fans or people but there were enough to make you feel exhilarated, special and a little nervous. We walked around the outside of the oval, cheered for Australia and waved to the growing crowd. It was super cool and thrilling. We had so much fun.

We made our way back to our seats and… Wait they weren't the right seats. We went back and searched and finally… Ugh, nope still not them. Let's try again. Maybe, hopefully, YES, found them.

Finally, we can sit down, eat our food and enjoy the tense battle between the two countries. During the wait in the line for food, the game had already started and Japan had even scored a goal!

The match was stressful and exciting along with lots of laughs and chats amongst ourselves. The game ended with a tie of 1 all at 10:04pm. Both teams played amazingly and had great sportsmanship.

I was super proud and privileged having this special opportunity given to me and my classmates to represent our school and our country, as well as our hard working and achieving Socceroos team!

Thanks to Mr J and Mr Manuel for making it possible and to everyone who came along and made it so much fun! And most of all… GO AUZZIES!!! Thank You Bianca W-S 6J
