ABOUT

VISIT

CURATOR

GLITCH at RUA RED brings to-gether a selection of Ireland and Europe’s leading artists, theorists, researchers, curators and art-ist groups working in media and technology to explore contem-porary cultural and critical issues, both emerging and established, that arise from artists’ investi-gations into digital technology.

This year, GLITCH presents a series of exhibitions, taking place both online and in the gallery, that exam-ines how digital artists are engaging with and responding to the current economic, political, and cultur-al factors that shape the Internet.

The festival will discuss and ex-

plore how the practice of the dig-ital artist is in transition, not only due to the development of digital technologies, but also because digital artists are increasingly in-formed by offline factors that af-fect how the Internet, as a cre-ative platform, is being developed.

GLITCH 2013 features eight workshops, a Symposium, Oh Internetz (a short films show-case) and a closing party with BBQ featuring live performances from the best of Irish producers.

Exhibiting artists include: Casey Reas, Marius Watz, FIELD, Pixel Noizz - David Szauder, Evan Roth and Constant Dullaart

Run Computer, Run is curated by Nora O Murchú. Nora is a curator and designer. She is currently a post-doctoral researcher at CRUMB, where her research explores experimental approaches to curating new media art and examines current economic, political and cultural factors that are shaping networked culture, and the artistic responses to them.

Nora is the founder and creative director of Tweak - a digital art and elec-tronicmusic festival that took place in Ireland from 2008 - 2010. She has produced exhibitions and events (www.openhere.data.ie) for Trinity Col-lege Dublin and has curated the work of Golan Levin, Casey Reas, FIELD, Anthony Antonellis, Daniel Miller, Gregory Chatonsky, Tristan Perich, and Benjamin Gaulon.

The exhibition explores and questions how artworks made for Internet and mobile platforms can be trans-formed and reconceived for the gallery. Taking work that was originally conceived for other platforms of viewing and placing within a gallery context raises questions about the relationship between the digital and the physi-cal. Featuring work from Constant Dullart and Evan Roth

Final year students from the BA (Hons) Creative Digital Media degree programme at the Institute of Technology Tallaght have completed work in a variety of disciplines ranging from Digital Video, Interactive Multimedia, Photography, and Radio Production. This exhibition is a culmination of the work completed by 4th year students.

Examining Aesthetics delves into the world of open source language processing, examining how artists have been influenced by a digital way of seeing, while developing their practice beyond screen interfaces.

Featuring work from Casey Reas, Marius Watz, FIELD, and Pixel Noizz - David Zsauder

In a group show that features 30 international net art-ists, a unique platform for viewing and interacting with digital artwork will be created. The exhibition is com-posed of an online interactive website, and a gallery based exhibition.

In this collaborative gif-making workshop, participants learn about the history of gifs and the tools for making them. Participants will be introduced to online tools and platforms such as Blingee and DUMP.FM, and learn how gifs are made, using tools such as Adobe Photo-shop and Premier Pro.

Led by Grace McEvoy Participants must bring laptop and mouse. For those who do not a computer will be provided.

Participants are invited to investigate the use of cybernetic military systems such as remotely piloted aircraft (drones) and the Disposition Matrix, a dy-namic database of intelligence that produces protocological kill-lists for the US Department of Defense. The workshop aims to reterritorialise the drone as a physical, industrially-produced technology of war through the creation of an open-access database: a ‘reposition matrix’ that geopolitically situates the organisations, locations, and trading networks that play a role in the production of military drone technologies.

Participants must bring laptop and mouse. For those who do not, a computer will be provided.

Run Computer, Run is an exploration of critical and experimental ap-proaches to curating new media art. This symposium offers an in-depth dialogue between leading curators and artists in the field. The differ-ing perspectives and talks bring together critical and creative investiga-tions of new media art practices. This symposium provides an exam-ination of the theme behind this years’ Glitch festival and explores the curatorial representations of digital artworks, speculating upon the in-terrelationship of digital technologies, artistic and curation practice.

Facilitated by Nora O Murchú, Curator of Glitch festival, Post-Doctoral re-searcher at CRUMB
