Golden Bay Schools’ Swimming Sports
The Golden School’s Swimming Sports will be held next Friday 11th March at the Golden Bay High School pool
starting at 11am and finishing around 2.00pm.
We will transport the children to the pool by bus, however parents may take their children home after the
sports.
We have had two sessions at the High School pool this week to familiarise those non- swimming club members
with the longer and deeper pool.
After the training sessions this week the children are well aware of what they are able to accomplish.
I swum a length freestyle of the High School pool for the first time today. I nearly made it on Tuesday, it was a long way. Riley W
I made my length of freestyle easily but the breaststroke was a lot harder as I kept going too deep. Mrs Cullen is going to help me not go so deep. Emily H
I didn’t think I would be able to do a length as I thought it would be too far but I managed a length freestyle and backstroke. I also touched the bottom of the deep end. Jaxxon
I did better than I thought and I was able to comfortably do a length freestyle and breaststroke but kept getting water up my nose in backstroke. Having the lanes in kept me going straight. Poppy

Wow! What an awesome weekend we had at the SAB retreat. With our gear in packs and a mystery destination, off we went. We walked from Totaranui to Waiharakeke where we set up camp for two nights. We learnt lots about fresh water fish! We set fish traps at night then checked them in the morning and were excited with our finds of Kokopu and Red Fin Bullies. We walked to Awaroa Hut learning about plants and their uses. On the way we found a Geocache, met the warden, and enjoyed the critters on the estuary mud flats. We are really excited about the year ahead. Watch this Space!
Room Five’s Mystery Stories
THE MAGIC COW PAT I was falling. I saw a cowpat and accidently fell in. When I hit the cowpat I got knocked out and everything felt weird!
Everything looked strange. The cowpat was super sloppy. I was thinking in my mind „am I dreaming or not?‟ My brain was going kooky. There were bones everywhere. I was freaked. There was a man in the distance … who could he be.
He looked mysterious. Suddenly, I remembered I‟d seen him before… It was cowpat man!!!!!!! He was sloppy. I saw
him levitating cowpats and then I woke up I saw my mum. She asked, “Are you all right?” “Yes I‟m fine”. The dog was licking my face.
THE END. By Joe
I went though a doorway and I walked straight into a different dimension where everyone had button eyes except for
me! I noticed that my mum and dad were jealous of me because I had real eyes. I was panicking and wanting to get
out of this world. Later, when I was asleep, my mum woke me up and shouted “LET ME SEW ON BUTTON EYES OR YOU WILL BE LIVING WITH A GHOST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” “Eww, I would rather live with a ghost than live with button
eyes!!!!!” I screamed. Instantly a portal took me to the ghost. I was scared… By Bayleigh
The day I was unconscious. I was falling. I put my hand out to stop myself but I fell right through and landed in a world not like any others. Only
bears were allowed. But the bears could walk and talk. I looked at myself and saw that I was a bear too.“Ahhhhhhhhh!!!” I screamed. The bears started to stare at me with their big bulgy eyes. Luckily they finally
stopped and blinked. I ran towards a village of houses. I met a bear called Bob. He was a nice bear who built houses. I
asked if he and his crew could please build me a house. “Sure” they said and with one pound of the hammer a two-story house was built.

I sat back a little, and then… crack!! The branch snapped and I fell down down down! I landed, plonk, on a bed of moss. I stood up and looked around. “Wow, this place is beautiful”. There were lots of high stacks of parcels. As I
walked along a skinny path there were lots of little elves in green suits. Then, suddenly I saw 1, 2, 3 reindeer… no wait
4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 reindeer. Am I really seeing right? A man in a red sleigh pulled up beside a small elf. As the elf hopped in a trumpet sound filled the air.

There was a truck stuck in the muck. A duck came and the duck said cluck. It was a strange duck. It was big and pulled
the truck out of the muck. I started to pluck the duck and the duck said CLUCK!!! By Hayden
