Principal’s Report

What an incredible pace we have set as we start the new

year. So much is happening at Boree Creek Public School;

there is something for everyone.

This year we welcomed, Jett Cunningham, our

kindergarten student into our community. It was

rewarding to see him and his family excited to start school.

He has settled beautifully into our school and we look

forward to keeping track of all his progress throughout the

year.

On a personal note, thank you to those that were able to

come along and engage in our ‘Meet & Greet’ afternoon.

It was fantastic to meet so many families and begin to build

a lasting partnership, as we collectively educate your son

or daughter.

Have a great week.

GK Swimming Carnival

Thank you to the students, families and staff for your

tremendous support to run an outstanding swimming

carnival. It was a wonderful showcase of the Boree

Creek Public School community, with parents readily

involved helping with timing, judging, and participating

in the impromptu parent’s swim at the conclusion.

Students showed a warm side, encouraging one

another, which was a fantastic thing to witness

throughout the day.

It was a highly successful day with a number of records

broken throughout the day. Congratulations to each of

the following students who broke a record on the day.

Southern Riverina Swimming

Carnival

This Friday, Miss Michele Thomas and 10 students will

head to Albury to compete in the Southern Riverina

Swimming Carnival. This carnival starts at 10am sharp,

with students required to be at Lavington Swimming

Complex by 9:30am. We wish each of the 10 students the

best of luck and know they will represent Boree Creek PS

and the Greater Kengal Network superbly.

Quality Teaching Rounds (QTR)

One of the Departments Strategic Plan Goals is every

student, every teacher, every leader and every school

improve every year. In order to achieve this goal, we

applied for were successful in our application to engage in

a Quality Teaching Rounds research project through the

University of Newcastle. Quality Teaching Rounds (QTR) is

strongly

endorsed by the department as a professional learning approach that involves teachers learning together at school or online. The Rounds use the department's Quality Teaching model as the framework for deep conversation about classroom practice. Teachers work collaboratively in small Professional Learning Communities (PLC), observing each other teach on a rotating basis and discussing and analysing their observations. Research has found QTR build significant improvements in the quality of teaching and have positive impacts on teacher morale and school culture as a result of encouragement and recognition of teachers' good work.

Being involved in this digitally delivered research project is a wonderful opportunity for our school and something that will ensure we as a school meet our expectation of continued improvement.

Dojo Rewards System

This year as a school we will be using the dojo rewards

system again. After consultation we have aligned our dojo

rewards system to our school values of be a LEARNER, be

SAFE and be RESPECTFUL. Students have the goal of

working towards 100 dojo points throughout the year.

However, to ensure we are building a culture that rewards

wonderful behaviour choices we have introduced a termly

values reward. When a student receives 25 dojo points in

a term they will be invited to the values reward afternoon.

The values reward afternoon date has been set, however,

what the reward will be is still undecided. This has been

done deliberately as we want student voice to play an

integral part in determining what the values reward

afternoons will look like.

Be a LEARNER Be SAFE Be RESPECTFUL

Students are eligible for the values reward for embodying our school values and receiving 25 Dojo

points in a term.

Term 1 Values Rewards 25 Dojo points

Term 2 Values Rewards 50 Dojo points

Term 3 Values Rewards 75 Dojo points

Term 4 Values Rewards 100 Dojo points

Events Calendar

To ensure every family is aware and has the opportunity

to come along and support their child, we have developed

an events list. Find this events list calendar attached to this

week’s newsletter for your convenience.

K/1/2 News

Welcome back to everyone in the K/1/2 classroom for

2020!

A very BIG and warm welcome to our new Kindergarten

student, Jett. Jett has settled into his first weeks of

primary school so well and is contributing his ideas,

trying new things and getting to know his peers. Here is

what he has to say about ‘Big School’ so far:

What is your favourite thing about School? Homework

and learning new words.

What would you like to learn at School this year? I want

to learn how to write lots of words.

If you could be anything when you grow up, what would

it be? A recycler.

Why is school so fun? Because the teachers let me do

fun stuff.

Festival of Instrumental Music

(FOIM)

Last week Miss Jennifer Gollasch was involved in

professional learning regarding the 2020 Festival of

Instrumental Music. Miss Gollasch was learning the

sheet music for this year’s event which she will be

teaching to students on a Wednesday during music. As a

school we are very blessed to have the caliber of

musician that Miss Gollasch is and we thank her for the

wonderful support she is to our students.

NSW PS Recorder Camp

As a school we have an affiliation with the recorder and

on any given day you will hear students rehearsing and

refining their skills. Each year students from NSW public

schools Years 5-12 are invited to apply for the annual

four-day (three-night) residential recorder workshop

and camp, culminating in performances at the Sydney

Town Hall as part of the Festival of Instrumental Music in

July and August 2020. The cost of the camp is $400 per

participant. If you wish to nominate for the camp you are

School Library

This year as a school we are running three classes. This

means our library is used as a classroom and we have had

to make a slight change to our school library borrowing

routine. For children and their families that would like to

borrow from our school library this will occur every

Wednesday during the lunch time break. Student are

invited to return their books, before they re-borrow. To

ensure the safety of our school books can students

please bring a library bag when borrowing.

K/1/2 News (continued)

Rylee has been nominated for SRC this term. K/1/2

students used this opportunity to create a speech and

present it to our class. Each student participated and

voted for who they thought would be a great

representative and who had the most persuasive speech.

Rylee was voted in by her peers and the thing she is

looking most forward to is making new plans with people

for our school. Rylee added “I also like it because it

means I can be around people I don’t usually play with.”

Hamish is our second SRC member for term 1 and was

also recognised for successfully achieving his learning

goal this week. Hamish said something that challenged

him this week has been learning the difference between

numbers. Hamish was asked what was something he was

hoping for next week in class, he wished for more craft.

Hamish stated “The thing I love most about our K/1/2

classroom is how many books we have. There are always

new ones to read without going to another room.”

Renae using informal units for measuring length

Montana creating a reading response to our ‘Read
